I am shaking my head in disbelief listening to Sri Bambawale's comments regarding the possibility of trading with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan; expected something way better from a person who has served as Indian High Commisioner in IRP. Even when IRP was weak, it has never failed to cause harm to India. Only when it is really down on the mat, as it is now, will it reduce (on a relative scale) its interferene. If we make the mistake of resuming trade, which in turn will help IRP towards getting back on its feet, it will ratchet up sharply its attacks on India. If we haven't learnt this lesson even after decades, centruries, and millennia of dealing with "the religion of peace(!)", then we'll have only ourselves to blame. An excellent discussion! Raja Mohan Gandhi is just amazing! The Pakistanis were told that India was abysmally poor and weak while Pakistan was shining like a star high in the sky. It is dawning on these Pakistanis that India has gone so far ahead that Pakistan can never catch up. Who is to blame? Obviously, the Army, as they were the ones who claimed credit for every thing happening in that Country.
One of the best programs on the assessment of situation in & around Pakistan. The participants' views & analysis are scintillating & spot on. Very well moderated by Samita Prakash.
It's excellent for Smitha to bring such professional guests and also knowledgable politicians we get a good information which normally we can't get through the debates which are really not palatable for our years by way of shouting from the debaters, buased politicians and analysts
Excellent Smitha, one suggestion u could have dig deep with Gowtham on any first hand crisis, how it works from high commissioner's ofc, with Raja more on central Asia crisis...geo politics like Pak with turkey etc...
Bureaucrats and industry leaders make for best podcast guests. People who are actually in the thick of things. It gives us a peek into how things really happen. I think professionals like Surgeons, Engineer working on cutting edge tech like Deep learning and AI, Scientist from different domains like theoretical physics, space, biomechanics etc could be great guests as well. I personally like Indian podcasts more compared to western ones. One concern that I have is usually we do not know the background of guests in enough detail to know about their biases.
No talk and no trade with Pakistan Pakistan is like a snake, snake will bite you regardless you feed or not Biting is inherent character of Pakistani mindset
One thing I like about this show is the kind of guests who participate. For example in this episode, both gentlemen have known credibility and present their thoughts based on true experience rather than just trying to make explosive statements to sensitise people's emotions.

Aspirations of indian youth are lambourgani, designer clothes, good urban houses with club facilities, monikes, travel, they want to explore their own abilities, and the world space. Just having a profession is lower middle class aspiration now. Indians are ready to have higher income. They dream of western standards. Want latest in home decor. This creates huge potential for everyone. Archetects, designers, decorators, auto, businesses. Just being 4rth or 3rd largest economy is meaningless if our life style doesnot improve

From Pakistan great analysis. Everything truth and right. We people want relationship with India and no more kashmir rhetoric. It's not the people's narrative but our democracy is weak and we are helpless
What you, the people of Pakistan want doesn't matter; people's opinions are completely irrelevant in a dictatorship. And please be clear: Pakistan is NOT a democracy, never was. It is a military dictatorship, overtly or covertly such as now. Fix your country, make it a real democracy where the military is under civilian control. Only then aspire to things that ordinary citizens of normal countries aspire to.

Perfect analysis. Being Pakistani, I can easily say there is a strong realisation among the common people of Pakistan that they have been fooled for 70 years. And the way india has emerged in recent decade has also played a great role in this realisation because its quite clear that we are far left behind.
Smita mam , you are emotional sometimes while talking about Pakistan and China matters.. Emotional in the sense over enthusiastic ,for eg: while you discussed about China border issue with Dr Jai shankar foreign minister (china had attacked us why India can't, then Jaishankar sir then said calm down Smita there were bilateral agreements between us like that stuff) .This podcast is very knowledgeable to the students who are in political studies and upsc aspirants.. 1.Jaishankar 2.Annamalai 3.former china ambassador and senior fellow.
Very disappointed with the thoughts of both the former diplomats. They are talking the language of Farooq Abdullah in diplomatic parlance. Non of them talked about terrorism as an instrument of Pakistan state policy. Being closely associated with Pakistan they have not understood the psyche of the Pakistani elite including the Army (with dual citizenship) vis-a-vis their commitment to the welfare of Pakistan as well as Mullah Nexus in radicalising the entire population. Both these gentlemen are cut off from the ground realities. It seems that they don't have any value for the lives lost because of the Pakistani terrorism. Finally no one said that complete disintegration of Pakistan is the only way to the peace in SE Asia. These two are liberals harking for Aman ki Asha nonsense in the garb of so called intellectual discussions. Poor show Smita Prakash
People say India Pakistan should be like USA and Canada, which was only possible as both countries have Christianity which kept them together in India Pakistan case the hate for Hindus by Pakistani Muslims will never let us be in harmony
Fact is that Pakistan was indeed doing better than India in almost every parameter till end of 1990s: PKR was better than INR. Pak was world champion of hockey, cricket and squash simultaneously. Their poverty was lower. Their GDP per capita was higher. Being friends with US, China and Europe while doing better economically coupled with superiority complex inherent to Islam - Pakistanis were figuratively on moon. Things have changed in next 25 years. That’s why it is hard for them to come to terms with India’s rise. Today, India is better than Pak on every parameter
@@ABHISHEK0058 they were indeed small , in military might. They often did misadventures. They were no saints. I am only talking about their economic state. Helped by US and west, Pakistan was looked at as Asian Tiger. Almost all economic parameters were better than us. It is after Zia Ul Haq that they turned awry. PM hanged, strict Islam enforced. Then US also stopped helping them
I feel Gen Bajwa played the same game in 2021 which Bhutto played in !972. Pakistan was able to get a cease fire when they were really hard pressed to find means to sustain the cross border firing. We have provided them breathing space to recover. Whereas we should put pressure on them and make them totally bankrupt.
India matters can be illustrated very easily by seeing DW’s coverage on India (German national broadcaster). 5 years back they only scolded India in human rights, flawed democracy but now they have programs and discussions on how to engage India against China. The only reason for that is our economic growth which tells us we need to keep working hard and make even more progress than before
1972 it was expressed as a WISH by a poet: "Chalo Dildar Chalo- Chaand Ke Paar Chalo" 100's of Million people took it to the heart and it became a PRAYER. Aug 23 2023, made it a REALITY- now "Chandryaan is "Chaand Ke Paar', i.e. on the SOUTH side" Heartiest Congratulations India for making it a REALITY !
It may be a coincidence, I agree and 🙏 to the poet for his wish but Khan babu I tell you this landing on moon and beyond and even beyond this universe is in BLOOD and DNA of me and every SANATANI taking birth on this pious land of BHARAT 🇮🇳 since the beginning of INFINITY not just TIME. Bcoz we were in soviet camp idiot.. learn some geopolitics.. dey wont do the same today.. nd ur so called russia is in total chinas camp now and we are economically totally under west camp presently governed by usa.. so things changes.. get used to it

36:22 This is like giving breathing space to pakistan , shouldn't we use the vulnerability of our enemy and exploit it more rather then giving them chance .. Just a hypothetical situation if things were vice a versa what would have pakistan done ?? so i guess we should also do exactly the same , Hoping that one day pakistani will have some common sense is nothing more then chasing a mirage.
That's what I wondered, but remember, we want a defusal not explosion of Pakistan, otherwise refugees flood in. Best thing would be activation of Baloch and PTM, which is picking up.
As a Pakistani these kind of shows give reassurance that majority of Indians are sensible and well mannered. Being patriotic does not mean we disagree with the actual situation and most of views shared here are absolutely correct. As a witness of extremism at its peak in 2008 and a uprise of fanatic psychos in shape of group and malicias, i worry greatly of the Indian inclination towards a theocratic hinduvata doctrine from a Secular society. State controlled media in Pak and India really endorses the state policy in the most pathetic manner but thank God military which is the most influential institution in Pak is atleast very Secular and progressive in Nature.
Great objective analysis by participants on Indo Pak relations and about Pakistan. Indian expatriates have raised Indian profile with their soft power.
Havnt we been talking to pak for the last 75 yrs? What has it yielded? Are they ever planning to give us a route to Iran and central asia and middle east? No that would never happen. Literally since we stopped talking with pak where have we lost business or has it impacted us negatively? None at all. Let things be. Once pak grinds itself down we can pick up the pieces that we like and leave the rest to rot. After all keeping thr cancer out of the main body is wise no?
The core of PAK issue now is they thinking that they are equal to India and they are unable to get out of that mindset. During early days, PAK enjoyed US support and free money in billions. In this, they didn't even think about developing PAK with industries and economy. It was always dependent on funds from outside. Now that the funds have dried up they are shown the reality of PAK. China's exponential growth and taking on US has forced the US to shift from PAK towards India as only India can counter China in the region. Even US (whole world) knows that PAK will sleep with anyone for money and can't be trusted.

Indian economy has been 10 times Pakistan economy since 1960s. But per capita income in Pakistan was more than that of India till 2006. So the big change is in per capita income after the printing press have been stopped/reduced in Pakistan. India has a long way to go before leaving the past behind. Next 5-10 years are crucial.
Per capita is a very deceptive indicator since all they do is take total gdp and divide by the population but the problem lies in distribution of that money. E.g. China is a middle income country now with such a large economy and yet about 60% of that money is in hand of CCP. Similarly most of Pakistan's wealth lies in the hand of very few elites. Most of them are billionaires. So the issue is to avoid similar situation in India and the trajectory right now is precarious.
I dont understand this linkage that trade will bring peace. Look at how us strategy on china went belly up. I think india should be very careful opening trade with pakistan.

I don't understand why India always wants to compare and compete with China on anything. Thus is because China is only interested in minding her own business and lifting more than 900 million Chinese people out of poverty. Under benign & great leader Xi Jinping, the Chinese people are enjoying a life of peace, prosperity and happiness. In fact, tourists from countries all over the world have vouched that today's China is the safest, cleanest and most peaceful country to visit in the world. So for India to compare and compete with China, India must first solve its poverty problem, improve its sanitation standard, clean its drinking wster and food and make its country safe and peaceful. Moreover, India's rail transport is a joke and outdated by ages compared to Vhina's High Speed Rail. Why can't India seek China,'s help to build its rail transport, like a good neighbour should? India and China should be good neighbours and friends,!

Sushant Sareen is one of the few people who really understands IRP. Just blindly follow Sushant's advice to the letter as far as IRP is concerned. Never ever ever ever help IRP, unless you want the kiss of death.
Totally agree
ANI,
This is such a brilliant podcast. So much info.... Thanks but...
You can post 10 podcasts a day. And we will watch them when we get time. Just so you know.
Why don't these amazing podcasts be posted on time? Why so late? It has lost its relevance just because it's posted so late.
Same has happened with the Fadnavis episode and so many other podcasts. That's terribly sad.
I am watching from UK. Smita l have read your profile and was very impressed with what knowledge skill and experience you have gained over the years. I have stopped watching TV instead love watching all your podcast. I am 74 and learning alot about whats happening in India a country l love the most. I visit India every year and fill so much at home. Keep up the good work and good health and best wishes from UK.
Simta madam, thank you for bringing the hidden gems of India to your podcast. Without your podcast, we would never know that such responsible people are also serving the country tirelessly.
India has got a lot of talent , but they don't come forward and share their knowledge and wisdom.
He is C Raja Mohan not Rajamohan Gandhi
Rajmohan Gandhi is an anti Hindu scoundrel just like Mohandas Gandhi
@@An11Ran okay
It's amazing the infatuation of this nation with Gandhi who was just a politician marketed by the British & it's Congress party as "Mahatma"!!
One of the best programs on the assessment of situation in & around Pakistan. The participants' views & analysis are scintillating & spot on. Very well moderated by Samita Prakash.
C Raja Mohan sir❤❤❤❤
No talk and no trade with Pakistan
Pakistan is like a snake, snake will bite you regardless you feed or not
Biting is inherent character of Pakistani mindset
ANI has a class of its own
One thing I like about this show is the kind of guests who participate. For example in this episode, both gentlemen have known credibility and present their thoughts based on true experience rather than just trying to make explosive statements to sensitise people's emotions.
*Doing business Via UAE is better then doing business direct with Pakistan, reason it keeps Pakistan on tows, it incur extra cost, get more Leverage & Value for INDIA and UAE together, keeps Pakistan UNSETTLE, doing direct business with Pak has an effect of stablizing Pakistan and get no Benefit for INDIA*
I think it’s important for the current generation to know what road we have traveled. As a country we have come a long way !
It would be interesting to record the aspirations of current generation & check back when India turns 100. 😍

Talking about china and pak together interlinking both (which should happen more often) by experts who have observed and worked closely with, both these countries is great idea
Great podcast (one of the best) by ani and smita ji.
Well done Smitha. Tough and concurrent issues with lonks to 75 year past.
Most importantly you ask right question and wait patiently for the answer from experts. Honesty, humility is evident.
You dont do agressive, assertive interruptions ( which is India media style ) and you use subtle humour too.
Fresh air indeed. Keep it going

From India
Your ancestors broke this country and went out , your country was born out of jealousy and hatred towards our country, your country tried every trick in the book to harm my country.
When you were blinded by Indian hate, Indians worked hard and marched ahead this is the beginning wait for next 10 years.
Now you have turned beggars because of your incapabalities and hate and we don't want any relationship with you I don't why these guest were even thinking we should have trade or dialogue with you.
Today you are not capable of inflicting any new damage because you have lost the capability to do so but tomorrow when you have some strength you l do the same again
Thank you
Great sincere talk....just one correction....
Imran Khan as PM in his initial popular speech had offered to go two steps for one step from India like building Kartaarpoor for our Sikh brothers but his sincere, upfront stance was not reciprocated by the Indian govt to start the long awaited dialogue. Still it,s always a right thing to stop hating each other and think of solving the socio-economic issues of our marginilised people on both sides. Its a huge discussion which must continue with open minds..... Let,s hope for mutual respect & better things to lead our relations after 2024 elections in both countries.
Atleast people on both sides are not aliens to each other and are still using the words Maamoo, Chaachoo, Baaji, Guddoo...😅😅😂❤❤❤🙏🙏

As someone who began his career repairing IBM junk,I can tell you it was the best decision they took.IBM's departure gave birth to many new Indian companies -ORG,CMC,CMS,HCL etc."Mini " computer companies such as Wang,Data General,Prime etc made computing more affordable .Subsequently the arrival of the IBM PC,soon made by many Taiwanese companies, the Windows Operating System by Microsoft,-all these enable India to move ahead.Rajiv Gandhi's open attitude to computerisation (inspite of dire warnings by the usual naysayers -CPI/CPM etc also helped.

2.Annamalai
3.former china ambassador and senior fellow.
Ditto. I thought was I wrong or landed in wire website. These guys are congress stooges it seems
People say India Pakistan should be like USA and Canada, which was only possible as both countries have Christianity which kept them together in India Pakistan case the hate for Hindus by Pakistani Muslims will never let us be in harmony
Fact is that Pakistan was indeed doing better than India in almost every parameter till end of 1990s:
PKR was better than INR.
They lost half of their country, lost multiple wars, killed multiple PMs etc etc, before 1990.
Then US also stopped helping them
It’s good to understand that we never forget our past.

The only reason for that is our economic growth which tells us we need to keep working hard and make even more progress than before
Very informative! Historic context and facts much needed to be known to our current generation to make better choices for the future!
1972 it was expressed as a WISH by a poet: "Chalo Dildar Chalo- Chaand Ke Paar Chalo"

Military is secular🤣🤣
Look how world looks at muslim countries and Pakistan would sit at bottom of the list
One of the best podcast 👏🏻
SORRY-
EXPERT IS SAYING ‘’ Bangladesh has controlled their population’’
This is really nonsense.
Every Muslim of Bangladesh have 10 to 21 children . And And most of them residing in india through unfair means. They have left Bangladesh and continuously refusing into india .
Resulting into decreasing in Bangladesh overall population and those social sins are increasing the population of India and that of a particular religious group ( Muslims).
Very Very grave concern.

No Trade with Punjab - mostly Terrorists. Why do both believe trade with Pak is better for India's peace?
Indian obsessed with Pakistani foll they are gone case already in ventilator don’t collapse pakistani given oxygen support it Indian intrest in next 20 yera focused on China China china and China
Correct Its not going to bring anything to us except trouble.
It's like we are paying our enemies to buy weapons to kill us.
I don't know why we have to trade with them
What fantasises theese Indian Diplomats have with Pakistan
