I wonder why they expected this to click with audiences.. Having a crooked cop as a protagonist who shoots a man for trying to flee, then says he’ll plant evidence on them, is not an endearing quality, made many times worse when you consider the current climate surrounding law enforcement/citizen relationship. Or maybe there was another reason people disliked it?
The terrible CGI with a bizarre insistence on close-up shots to add to that unpleasant uncanny valley effect? The lack of real originality with the premise (It's Men In Black but with AFTERLIFE GHOSTS!)? The hackneyed writing? The wooden unconvincing performances?
It's amazing how your generation has literally wiped the smiles off of everyone's face with being offended by things that no one was offended by 20 years ago and all got that Jokes are jokes. Comedy as an art that has gone on for thousands of years and it is 98% at someone else's expense. Now to explain...And "Old West Cop" is supposed to have outdated and ridiculously callous methods...That's the JOKE! If for a second, while watching this, you "consider the current climate surrounding law enforcement/citizen relationship"? That would mean that you should definitely talk to someone, as you have been programmed .
The movie was pretty trash and to make it worse you can't even understand half the stuff Jeff is saying because he wanted to practice his southern accent.
