      Thanks for stopping by! This Harmon mute actually has a cool story. It once belonged to legendary hollywood trombonist Lloyd Ulyate. It was the sound of countless Warner Brother cartoons

    I come back to this video all the time, so useful. If the description had each mute timestamped so I could go to it quickly it would be the ultimate mute arranging guide. Wish a video with this clean presentation and no talking existed for trumpet as well!

    Mutes really are a great way to alter the effect and sound you produce. Having a good ear to watch for intonation is also key when playing with a mute as it might affect the pitch.

    Ive used my 2nd mouthpiece in the bell with a plunger. Just make sure the stem of the mouthpiece is facing out so you can get it out

    Hey Paul, My favorite mute was the bucket mute. I have my own bucket mute that I bought brand new a few weeks ago, and the inside of it STINKS! Does this fade away over time, or will I have to deal with that for all of my jazz career?

    Someone wince asked me what mute they should use at would make them sound quieter, without changing the tone on a budget. I just told them to pretend a forte was a metso piano, and scale accordingly 😂

      It's an old BAC, I think he said early 30's maybe late 20's. I know they used that kind in the time of Fats Waller and Louie. They still make them!

    How to play like Tricky Sam Nanton? In particular, apart from his plunger & plunger/pixie work, I've heard him 'speak' through the horn when the plunger's open, like creating vowel sounds without the plunger.
