10 Symptoms of Vitamin B12 Deficiency You Should Never Ignore

  • If untreated, vitamin b12 deficiency can have severe consequences - including neurological problems like nerve damage, blood diseases like anemia, and physical impairments. Even though the average adult only needs about 2.4 micrograms of vitamin b12 a day, many people don’t get enough from their diet or supplements.
The lack of vitamin b12 is even more prevalent in those who follow a vegan or a vegetarian diet or live with a condition that interferes with nutrient absorption.
Furthermore, vitamin b12 deficiency symptoms are varied and common among other conditions as well; thus, most people easily overlook the signs of a vitamin deficiency until it’s too late. Don’t be one of them!

Wish I would have known about this thing a few months ago. I tested positive for covid in April and I lost my baby in womb at the same time. It was a nine months pregnancy. My gyny didn't suggest anything and didn't gave me any medicine after delivery. They discharged me from hospital after 5-6 hours of delivery as I occupied a bed in covid ward. All of that was so traumatic. I lost my child my physical health and my mental health. My body ran out of vitamin B12 and no doctor identified this problem. Except everyone kept saying that you are in trauma of your child loss that's why you are feeling the pain physically. It is some psychological issue not a health problem. I started seeing psychologist and she told me that your body is in desperate need of vitamin B12. I started taking this vitamin and after 15 days I recovered physically and mentally

I concur! After 20 years of neurological problems, a bright, young neurologist asked me to keep my feet together and close my eyes. I lost my balance completely. He diagnosed me. I started to manifest symptoms (many of them are mentioned in this video) of pretty severe B12 deficiency when I was in my late teens. My Dr. would have me take huge amounts of it on a daily basis for months at a time, only to realize my blood work was still showing a lrg deficiency.
One day, he told me he had really been researching about my issue, and he wanted to run a different type of test on my blood. He explained it would look at a specific part of my DNA, and see if I had a certain malabsorption disorder. I agreed, and sure enough, I turned out to have a mutation in my MTHFR gene. Basically, that's the gene that helps metabolize B12 in the body via a process called methylation, thus enabling the body absorb and use the B12 it takes in.
Due to this condition, I have to take B12 that's already been methylated if I want my body to absorb and use it. Sry for the long explanation, but I want anyone having a B12 absorption problem to have the same opportunity I did to check out the status of their MTHFR gene, and possibly remedy their situation.

Thank you for making such a great video. I have been anaemic most of my adult life, I’m in my 40’s now, and it’s gotten worse over the years. I was diagnosed with pernicious anaemia a few years ago after suffering mostly the extreme fatigue, weakness and mobility problems (I am disabled by chronic pain anyway as well). I needed blood tests and then two weeks of daily b12 injections as I was so poorly. It helped a bit, however I remain badly anaemic and have high dose Ferrous Sulphate to take each day. It’s an awful condition to have and has stolen my life almost. I’m now bedridden by pain and the weakness. Please everyone take note of what your body is telling you. Love and light to you 🔮✨🕯🌙✨🙏🕯🔮

Hi Frances, do you take a b-complex as well as B12 because B- 12 and iron is not the only thing that help build healthy blood cells. I have been studying nutrition for over 20 years and b vitamins more intensively in the last 4 years and Vitamin b2 and folate especially, also play a huge role in blood cell formation. If pernicious anemia is an autoimmune disorder, the usual underlying trigger of autoimmune diseases is low vitamin B1.
If you want a good b-complex, Dr Best activated b-complex is a good one and so is country life coenzymated B-Complex . Being coenzymated or activated helps your body use them much more readily and lowers the risks of negative reactions. If your doctors are willing I would suggest you have them check all your b vitamin levels. The b1 I like is solgar thiamine hcl 500mg. Dr Best Benfothiamine 300 is good too, there is also one called TTFD allithiamine which is good for poor absorption issues or people with severe deficiencies. I would suggest you look up Dr Longsdale. Best wishes to you, I pray you get well soon.

@@subhrarath5140 YES! With your B12 that low, there’s an excellent chance that you will need injections. You may not have enough intrinsic factor in your tummy to be able to take up the B12 by eating/swallowing it. The only way to fix it is through injections. The nurse can give you the injections or they can teach you to do it. It’s a short needle and equivalent to what a diabetic does. It’s also cheap 😊! I had covid in July 2022. I thought I was battling long covid for months. But my chronic fatigue became worse and worse. I started experiencing heart palpitations and memory issues and brain fog. Then, gastrointestinal issues like constantly needing to go to the bathroom and having no appetite. I was depressed and couldn’t keep up with daily tasks. I started getting blurry vision fast, swollen tongue, was pale, hair loss bad, and numbness and tingling to the point where I fell 2 times pretty scary for 31. Nobody believed me or understood me. My symptoms were so widespread. My doctor sent me to specialists for each individual thing. I started getting swollen lymph nodes in my neck and under my arm and thought it was cancer considering all the symptoms and the chronic fatigue that was getting worse each day. I had no energy and was struggling to even keep up daily tasks and hygiene. My doctor tried to say it was psychosomatic and I went and got a second opinion from a hematologist/oncologist after scans and a cbc didn’t concern my regular doctor. Right away, he said he thought it was my b12 and a test confirmed it. For months I felt like I was dying as it got worse and worse. I’m a few weeks into injections and feel a tad better but my doctor said it will take 3-6 months to feel full effects of the injections and nerve and cognitive issues. It is serious and it’s not part of a regular blood work/panel which is why it goes undiagnosed for so long before it gets better.

Started beetroot juice and Pomogranite juice everyday. Being a vegetarian, not many choices to make but started eating all those things that our grandmother's would feed us during childbirth. My grandma would make curries, laddus with seasame seeds.Went back to the basics of organic eating. It worked wonders. I was back to being healthy in less than couple of weeks. I was 20 years old, when a neurologist specialist here in Ontario told me that I was Vitamin B Deficient. He said I was so deficient in ALL B Vitamins. So much so that it was causing seizures in me. I went to see him re severe Epilepsy at the time, & he told me that my crushed right temporal lobe was the main cause of my seizures. Yes, but, he said, it wasn't the only cause. He said my hypothyroidism that I was diagnosed with was causing many of my seizures, along with a severe Magnesium Deficiency also. Therefore, just going to see him alone, I learned that my Epilepsy back then was caused by malpractice. The Dr crushed my right temporal.lobe with forceps when he delivered me. My hypothyroidism was causing seizures too, & my Mom was the 1 who 1st picked up on this because, her mother, & her older sister, as well as my Dad's older sister, all have had severe thyroid problems at a very young age. My Grandma & I would have seizures if we ate certain foods, or didn't get enough iodine in our diets, as well as not take any Vitamin B either. Even now, nearly 17 yrs after I had surgery to remove my right temporal lobe to cure the Epilepsy altogether, I will sometimes get auras if I don't get enough salt in my diet or even accidentally not eat as much salt today as I did say 2 days ago. I seriously need to eat A good amount of salt in my diet daily, or seizures will result. Same with my Vitamin B levels. I have to take at least 150mg of a B Complex daily or seizures will result. At age 20, I had to take up to 300mg of a B Complex daily to avoid seizures. Same with Magnesium. I had to take 600mg daily (no more, & no less), in order to avoid seizures. Therefore, I learned firsthand how important it is to take supplements & how serious having deficiencies can be. It's vital that we all get our levels checked at least once a year. I've had severe deficiencies in Iodine, Calcium, Magnesium, & All B Vitamins, all before the age of 21, diagnosing sed by Drs too. And now in my 40s I have a severe deficiency in Vitamin D, & must take Vitamin D3 daily too. It's a challenge indeed. The best thing for anyone to remember is what my Allergy Specialist in Toronto told me 30 yrs ago. He said if you ever crave anything it means 1 of 2 things. You're either, Deficient in a certain nutrient, or your seriously allergic or sensitive to that. So, be careful he said, & be sure to learn & to get to know the difference between the 2. He knew I suffered from allergies, sensitivities, & deficiencies severely throughout my lifetime. I learned to write down everything I ate, drank, did, etc... Even if it meant I drank a glass of water a minute after midnight. I wrote it down. I paid extra attention to my reactions, etc... Whether it was extreme fatigue, hives, vomiting, constipation, diahrrea, eczema, rashes, bronchitis, sinusitis, OAS symptoms, Asthma, swelling of the neck & fusing it, swelling of the ear to the point it nearly swelled my ear canal shut completely, fluid like sound in the ear or hard wax build up causing ear infections, severe congestion, severe nausea, etc... I've have many symptoms caused by having each of these deficiencies. Your immunity & its ability to fight & cope with it, is vital too. I've been dangerously deficient to the point that it felt like it was the end for me & of me. Too much pain. So, make sure you get checked yearly, & always be your own Dr too because very few are actually knowledgeable in deficiencies. It took me going to a neurologist for epilepsy & brain surgery to tell me about my Magnesium & B Levels. Had I known sooner, it would've made going to school so much easier, amongst other things. Hope this helps some. Take care & all the best to everybody out there. :)

I have a friend who is a retired Dr. I had Itching burning in hands and feet (neuropathy) low energy and out of control candida, I thought, mouth sores, itchy scalp etc. Swollen tongue. She suggested diabetes but I didn’t have it. Then she wondered about B12? Feeling a lot better now. Also had all those other symptoms that you listed just figured it was ageing!
Been going downhill for about 15 years. Now I find out that SSRIs, which I’ve been taking since ‘89 interfere with folic acid and that affects the B12 absorption.
I spent 10 years recovering from Ativan, but am afraid to go off Zoloft as the withdrawal is so horrendous. Makes the benzo withdrawal look like a walk on the park. I’m 72 now.
Now I discover that SSRIs were tested for 6 weeks and released to the public. Stay on them for life they said. I’m really tired of being used as a human guinea pig. Very worried about the experimental emergency covid vaccine.

I was advised away back when first Diagnosed I should have Vit B12 injections whenever I felt weak or fatigued. This happened for a short time but my GP never followed it up.
I am older now and Recently I have been experiencing several of the symptoms youv'e shown. Light headedness, weakness, breathlessness, numbness pins and needles. I have reflux, and more.
I went to my GP. My daughter is convinced my problems come from Vit B12 deficiency so she encouraged me to see my GP again.
The nurse took blood tests and the one for Vit B12 was "over the rating but not enough to be concerned about". So I was given Iron Tablets instead. Remember 20yrs ago a Consultant Gastroenterologist told me I would need Vitamin B12 for the rest of my life.
I had a bad fall in January last fracturing my T12 vertebrae in my back and crushing my little finger and ligaments torn in my feet due to me getting up from my sofa my feet were numb I went to walk out the room but my ankle wasn't going with me. I heard a very loud crack. My ligaments in my ankle torn away from the bone and I also got the other injuries I mentioned above at the same time.
I still get light headedness and all the symptoms mentioned above and on your video. I want to feel well I am an active person by nature and I really believe that I need Vit B12. Should I have to go convince my GP.

Vertigo pins and needles fatigue etc amounted to a series of falls not serious but frightening I saw a Dr but was not diagnosed with this it was blamed on my ongoing fibromyalgia. Symptoms continued so I did my own research and found info on this vitamin and I took it seriously and changed my diet and started this supplement over 4 months to 8 months I noticed a lot of improvement in my balance energy skin tone and my blurry vision improved I am very careful of duet and always take a balanced daily dose of general supplements. I take only what I need just don't go overboard. It can be harmful and very expensive! I worked my dosages out with a Dr and common sense.

I had a b12 deficiency most of my life. I was diagnosed with MS in 1999 and then ITP in 2002. I also had ITP as a child but it was never diagnosed then. I take b12 injections once a month. But now I wonder if the diagnosis of MS was incorrect and truly was the b12 deficiency all along.

I think my mom had a vitamin b12. She had a low hemoglobin and dizziness sometimes confusion. She fell a lot too. Diarrhea was her first symptom that was effected her the longest.

I was B 12 deficient & protein deficient at the same time. Nurse gave me a metabolic blood test to diagnose. Craved CVS vitamin B 12 and I craved bone broth along with vitamin enriched pea protein drinks. Now a days I make sure to get 52 grams of protein per day and make sure to pick B 12 enriched foods.

I found out by watching your video. I went to my doctor last week to advise him I have trouble walking. My feet, ankles, tendons hurt. I'm 67, but recently started walking like I'm 90. My feet are sensitive to touch. My fingers and wrist constantly hurt, sensitive to touch. From childhood, I was diagnosed with clinical depression, and it has worsen over the last year. My dr. didn't ask question, just set me up to have feet and hands Xray. After watching your video, I feel I may be experiencing these symptoms due to a lack of b12. I have been a vegetarian for 5 and half years. Before I became a vegetarian, I may have eaten meat maybe twice a month. So, perhaps I was already lacking b12. I thank you very, very much for this video.

The really amazing thing was my brother was getting injections of b12. Yet I had to wait and wait for results before they were prescribed to me . I was a lucky person that day scary thinking back , but life is precious and I’m grateful. Listening to all the symptoms I don’t know why I’m here I’ve had them all.

I was under the impression that you became low in b12 it was due to alcohol dependence… I now believe that it is the illness that is the cause.

I actually just found out from my hematologist that I am deficient in B12..For years I have struggled with Anemia, and my regular dr always blamed my iron defiency for my issues..But there were so many other symptoms that werent in line w iron def..So glad my hematologist checked my b12..I have been prescribed 1,000 mg a day, between that and my iron transfusions I may finally get feeling better again..

I had double vision, numbness, troubles walking. Thought it was MS, but MRI was normal. Turned out it was Pernicious Anemia, I do shots every 3 weeks.

I knew it because my blood work came back showing me to be anemic. I eat meat so it really didn't make sense, so I started taking B12. I feel somewhat better, I am not as tired.
