Here in New York if you don't "stand right, walk left" on the escalator, other passengers will point out the error of your ways. No need for an employee.
Ticket Inspectors should have the right to issue an on the spot fine, or have the right to arrest - it's not fare to those of us who buy a ticket and play by the rules.
Totally agree with the ability to issue fines, but making an arrest is something only police should be able to do - taking away someones liberty is really serious and shouldn't be a power a ticket inspector can hold, and being arrested for not paying for a ticket is a bit much unless you are a repeat offender
Everyone already has powers of arrest under s 24 of PACE - an any person arrest, more commonly known as a citizen’s arrest. Only difference is that people without police powers have restrictions on how and when they can arrest - and for what. I doubt travelling without a ticket is an indictable offence, though.
I like how you said "fare " instead of "fair" :D btw: in germany they have the right to detain them until police comes. If they have proof. Actually every person can arrest anyone as long as he has proof. If he hasn't, he commits a fellony.
It's weird UK Inspectors can't do that. In the Netherlands Inspectors are trained (special police officer) to arrest and fine people only on the train.
@@Jbdassassinarmy Well, they have the option to cooperate and give them their ID. If they don't want to do that or pay the fine, they basically commit a fellony, just like thieves do. Why the hell should they not be hold until the police arrives? Is it different for thieves?
I like the card inspectors. They re really doing a great job. I just wonder why didn't arrest the first victim. However i was happy that they were later prosecuted.

Wow! I remember when it was £6 per day, but now it's £12!!!. Currently where I'm living, the subway system is much better than the London Underground AND it's £32.50p A MONTH for unlimited travel on the subway and buses!
Unbelievable number of people. It’s a wonder there aren’t serious injuries, with all those people on the platforms. I’m glad I don’t use it. If I ever get there, you can be damn sure I won’t be using the tube. £12 a day is £240 a month. OMG, that’s expensive. I pay $87 for a 3 month bus pass in Canada.
It's a hell of a lot more now. But the tube is the equivalent to GO Transit in Ontario or AMT/RSO in Quebec. More expensive, but bettee and faster service. Plus, it does decrease the more days you buy, plus the monthly or yearly passes
Currently 49 EUR/53 USD a month here for a ticket that covers the entirety of Germany including all subways and non-high speed trains. Hopefully the politicians don't mess this one up.
So you buy a season pass... and don’t have a car. Don’t even ask how much it is per week once you’re 30mins outside London... (or google it if you want to feel better about your life).
The more days you buy for, the cheaper it is. 1-week ticket (zones 1 & 2) for about 35 pounds (so 1 day for 5 pounds and it si is the tube, buses, DHL) . And if you are a commuter you have monthly and yearly tickets too. tfl.gov.uk/fares/find-fares/tube-and-rail-fares?intcmp=54713#on-this-page-0
the ticket inspector saying people get nasty is silly. of course people get mad, youre doing your best to detain them, using 3 or more men as physical barriers, how would YOU react if 2 or 3 strange men, not in uniform, approached you and started accusing you of something, then trying to force your compliance at the same time? even if you are guilty of what theyre saying, it doesnt change anything. that method rarely works in the us, because it often comes to blows, or the security person going too far & getting arrested or fired. its best to leave the police work to police, & the theft prevention to a well designed system. although technically a person who evades fare is stealing, that train is going to leave that station with or without him, a subway can only decrease money lost, since the overhead is what it is, like a man riding on the bumper of a bus instead of buying a ticket to ride inside, he isnt stealing, in the strict sense, he is merely avoiding paying.
Nah, they just don't hide their true feelings. Dude sounded very patronizing and ingenuine and I can imagine it getting annoying af hearing that every fucking morning.
In all honesty, Leon need to calm down. It´s the Tube, not the entrance to a school for children. Service is to be given with dignity and respect and as little clowning around as possible.
He was so cute, it´s because of people like him that my short stays in London are so much fun. If you don´t want to engage him, don´t but don´t decide for everyone else.
I'm glad they gave the homeless guy a break. That was heartbreaking.
