Hay biffa just thought I'd mention that in in a city like you've set up your frontage roads should be one way following the direction of traffic that comes off the freeway. They have two way frontage roads when there only on one side side.

I'm Italian and we've been in forced self-isolation since March 8th. It's rough but we gotta do everything in order to stay safe. We're all in this together

I think one-way service drives (as we call them in Michigan) are the only way to go. The two-way-ness of them seems to only cause jams, but having them one-way keeps the flow all in one direction so there's nobody trying to cross over others, just splits and merges (like a roundabout does)
By the way, we call them "service drives" because we use smaller roads out in un-populated areas so construction vehicles or civilian cars can get by while there is construction (or "service") on the highway. We just adopted that term to use for any sort of road that runs alongside a highway anywhere
While you're stuck at home, you could make a "Top 10" video of things people do to mess up their city. UA-cam algorithms love top 10 lists.
I have been trying a strategy where I place give way on low traffic road and yield on high traffic road (basically the opposite of your usual give way recommendation), so far its working great. It allows entry onto the main hwy without holding up the traffic on the main highway for too long. The only two exceptions to this I have found is hwy off-ramp (I use give way to off ramp traffic) and where two high traffic junctions meet, then I will use a timed traffic light.

6 months too late, but 2:05 was where in a video or two ago (when you first created the Heights), there used to be 2 water pumps there that pump out the water from that area. Now that they're gone, more water is allowed to build up, hence the slight flooding.

I think the way I feel about those two-way frontage roads must be like what you feel about an improperly set-up roundabout. 😁 You do occasionally see two-way frontage roads, but seldom & only in specific circumstances.

I was in quarantine 2 weeks prior to the country wide quarantine in italy because I was close to someone who resulted positive to covid 19. I like staing at home and playing games, but now I really want to go back to work and go outside XD
I don't think that's how fontage road works bifa, how it work is by using one way road instead of a two way road.

I've been wishing it were a setting, but a policy would be amazing. They could even make it an umbrella option, with other things like paid parking.
@@Vessecora exactly I prefer cities with no street parking because in my mind it causes less obstruction of view and makes city seem cleaner.
18:08 They are going off and on again because of the lane mathmatics ... they take the "second lane" ... the frontage roads should temporarily ADD lanes to the highway, not deduct lanes when coming off :)
They may not be highways, but frontage roads do still need to have lane mathematics applied to the outer roads. Like with clover leaves, you may want to force traffic entering the outer roads from the highway to switch to another lane instead of re-entering the highway.
I think another issue of this area is that it’s got too big of a population. It’s best to mix high rise with low density to avoid traffic issues 🤯

How we do frontage roads in the states would be one way, then you have a pattern of off ramp, cross over, on ramp. This allows people to get across the highway at regular intervals and none of this lane crossing nonsense from having 2 way roads on each side.

Great Traffic fix, but you failed on one of the most important things: Public Transport. Put some Metro there and the traffic will be reduced a lot more, and a Train station to the central ones also will help a lot. But all of this I'm sure it's done before reading this comment as he wanted to make a traffic video to get views ;)
It seems to me there is no account (or very little) of off road parking in the game. Based on the amount of cars where do they all park up? Great job Biffa that is not your fault just an observation.

6:15 I do not think that is just the traffic from north to south. That should also be the traffic between north and west.
Notice how most east/west traffic is using the northern bridge.
8:50 In that situation, you may want to give the eastern road give way too. And maybe the northern one a stop (more severe give way).
The guys comming from the west are comming from the roundabout. Currently they have to wait for the guys from the east, if they want to make a left turn. That could cause a tailback all the way onto the roundabout.
Basically only one of the directions of the T-Junction should have priority. And the second one should only have priority over traffic comming from the 3rd diection.
10:40 Main roads (or even all roads) come basically in Levels or Tiers. And all tiers have to give way to every higher tier. With the roundabout being the topmost tier, shortly followed by the highway.
18:20 The issue is not where those people drive. But where the people drive that are clogging up the roundabout. If a roundabout or highway stops, everything will stop.
But yes, the inability to essentially "turn left" when leaving the high is a big issue with the frontage roads you have there. I do not like some of the proper intersetions, but at least they got that part down.
18:40 Yeah, mass transit is propably your best bet to combat this traffic. The way they are described on wikipedia, I think frontage roads are only designed for limited traffic going on and off.

I’m self isolating as I have a autoimmune disability and my partners and mines work (pub & nightclub) had to shut last night so everything’s super up in the air right now but at least I’ve got biffas videos and Skyrim to get me though the days, while my partner and I try and deal with life

The roads parallel to the highway should be one way in the same direction as the highway it is next to.
That should help the traffic situation.

Indeed. Biffa needs to try to visualize frontage roads with overpasses/underpasses as a series of interconnected roundabouts in order to see how they work.

So idk if it is my cities or if it's just how it works, but removing parking from all roads helped free up traffic. For reference, 64% traffic with parking, 82% with no parking allowed.
Here in Texas (only place I've seen it personally) they have frontage roads on most highways, but they're set up a little differently. They're one way, but also have dedicated u-turn-under-the-highway lanes so you can get to the other side without waiting for a traffic light. (do a map search for "research Blvd and Duval Rd" for a good example.) Wonder if that would work well in-game?

I have problems with roundabouts that are really busy and back up, I follow your tips and do the right things, cars keep switching lanes when they don't need to and are just causing a mess. So, I have come up with a slightly annoying but helpful way to solve roundabout problems. *Use the lane connector and force them to stay in their lane when they come into the roundabout, but allow them to switch lanes in-between roads."
Sheltering in place in California. Your frontage road is set up a bit incorrectly. It needs to be one way on each side start with a slip lane into the frontage road and end with a slip lane back onto the freeway. That might clear up the folks making the hard right or left. But loving this content!!
The frontage roads are one direction along with the highway that way you don’t slow down and there’s no traffic, it’s the transition from highway speed to local roads, it long a very long off ramp, in one direction.

Your frontage roads make this Texan heart cry. Turn arounds to get on/off a frontage road are illegal! Please at least fix that. You can still have two way frontage roads, but traffic going opposite the highway should give way to those getting on/getting off the highway, and only the direction of the highway can get on/off.

Traffic coming off the highways shouldn't be making a near 270 degree turn!
Now, Biffa, frontage roads often work as a collector-express pair with a highway. They're one way, opposite direction either side, basically as if the frontage roads are a sausage-a-bout atop the highway. The frontage roads have occasional two-way connector roads between them, often aligning with major roads either side of the highway to make mini sausage-a-bouts. What you've done to connect to the highway is technically correct, but should be spaced out more. A more free-flowing connection is the basketweave: see images.app.goo.gl/ak5QkFnfZQVHvoKC6. Spend hours yesterday going over all intersections and roundabouts...new version of TM deleted all the v10 stuff.
Struggled lots, but doubled city size to 63k and traffic went from 35% in a 30k city with lots of abandoned zones to 85%! Woohoo....and it stayed up there....

I'm from New Zealand and also self- isolating due to also having a fragile immune system so ended up working from home and loving watching Biffa build awesome cites, my laptop isn't powerful enough to play City skylines, but still love watching Biffa. You should name a City after A New Zealand brand "Chelsa Hights" or "Chelsa Grove" and keep up the awesome Vids Biffa "Awwww Slip a tea" for auto save.
I'm making a lot more use of pedestrian crossings and paths now days...cuts down on tragic and stops it getting held up so much with mass crossing of roads.
IA of this game made laugh. Some vehicles turn in roundabout almost 3 times just for turn again in to next strret and back to same roundabout one more time ..just to turn again .lol

So I have been building a city with the most realistic way I can think of. I have edited the Traffic Manager files to make walking distance less than the original C:S. Realistic population mod (so if it looks like 1 family can live there only 1 does) and real-time mod. Taking ages, as you know to grow, but traffic is not too bad yet at 40,000 Civs.
Holding together, thanks for asking, Biffa. I was keen to stock up on tea, and my girlfriend ordered some Jones Organic Tea, i suggest checking them out!
Others have mentioned it too, but... I do think one-way frontage roads would make things easier for you. Like a big roundabout around the highway (Or, a series of roundabouts back-to-back along and around the highway). I've seen/driven on both, but in my experience, this kind of two-way frontage road would mostly only be used in low-traffic rural areas.
I Wondered whether or not you noticed the Buildings in your round about.
Sadly, the great new system I have for playing online is limited by the lousy internet speed I am stuck with.
