It really bothers me that in a game where aesthetics are such a large part of why we play, it isn't easy to adjust the lane alignment when the number of lanes changes. I love lane maths but it's a shame the left lane is the one to disappear like at 16:10
Aesthetics is a large part of why who plays???... Lol Seriously though, if it bothers you, you can use the Move It mod to make it look better. Biffa just doesn't bother, because fixing aesthetics isn't what he's selling.
I have to agree on this. Look at the highway, it should just align on the left and the right should go off. One should be able to choose the alignment... :D
Surely the easy way round it is to leave 3 lanes running through the junction, but just use lane control at the nodes so that no traffic can use that third lane through the junction. Then it follows the rules of Biffa's Sacred Lane Mathematics™ but also keeps the aesthetics looking nice.
@@stevieinselby That is mostly what I do. (And it really doesn't take more time or effort than updating the highway.) Still I would prefer a second click to change the alignment or some easy fix like that.
"People point out to me [Sports Island is] not an island..." Well, we can soon fix that! What's your landscaping budget and how do you feel about bridges?
I never commented on your videos or playing Cities Skylines and this is the first time I commented on this. I admit though that watching the traffic fixing was some kind of an ASMR at least for myself. And in this video, it shows that your cities can have some imperfections when it comes to traffic and tried your best to fix it. Keep up the great work mate!
Biffa, I was going to comment earlier on your Traffic issue but I watched the video again and I was able to see the root cause of your Traffic nightmare (And you said it too @9:11, delete the connection). When you connected your Sports area to across the river, you opened up a super highway between both areas, which caused all of the traffic issues (gotta love that Skyline traffic algorithm). Of course, the University did not help. I would recommend adding a real highway between those connects to avoid them cutting through the locals (Of course, no room). Now, it looks like you new repairs are just moved your traffic issues to other parts of the city (@25:27 is a perfect example. The Loopers are using it to go back to your new slip road @18:28). BTW, I kind a similar thing in my city, but your video fixes helped!

Hey Biffa, did you ever work with a "fire lane"? At the six lane roads the center lanes only emergency services are allowed to use them. They can make their way around very fast.
Not having watched through the whole episode, I am guessing that somewhere the Highway got disconnected somehow and that is why it isn't being used. And the King of Fixing other peoples traffic issues, it is good to see you get ensnared by traffic issues for a change, and I am sure you will have it all running ship shape again
Here's a tip Biffa. When you have multi-lane roads coming off a roundabout, it is better to utilize all of those lanes for traffic to exit the roundabout. For example, take a three lane one-way roundabout with two lane approach roads. The lane arrows for each exit should be; outside lane - exit only; median lane - exit or straight on and the inner lane of the roundabout straight ahead on the roundabout, using the lane manager to keep traffic in each of those exiting lanes respectively. Cheers and sippacoffee!

Everyone: Excited that there is a new episode of TeaVille in which Biffa will expand the city even further! Biffa: Nope, just another episode of fixing traffic, this time in my own city...
I really like using 4 lane highways because the lane math works out much better. For 4 way interchanges, 2 continue, 1 for left and right. For Y interchanges, 2 for each direction. For T interchanges, 3 continue, 1 for exiting.
It just goes to show that if you're a master at road construction calculus, that you can still make mistakes here and there. It was nice to see how you handled the clogs!
I think your major problem is you have no public transit to your new area. Sure you have a monorail around the edge but no metro or trains to get into the Sports Island.
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Ah I didn't see it when you were recapping what you put back in. Still seems like a few more options might be required since a lot of your traffic is private cars.
Think you just need some proper junctions and more of them, at the moment there is only really that 1 junction where they can join back onto the motorway, so they clog up that one route ;)
At the 18:55 , perhaps you need to replace that Y intersection with a proper interchange that then goes straight into the sports area too, or right by it? The Square-a-bout interchange would fit perfectly there! If needed, I could make an X vs + shaped variant if you would like? EDIT: Of course you change it later in video after I comment.
Hey Biffa, the main issue you had with the L-shaped 'about area was the fact that it was your only junction-exit from the highway. There's one more down the road which only allows the Cims to go off left, while they all want to go right.
Hey Biffa. You don't need to create a district to stop trucks coming through a section of road. There is a tool for that in the Traffic Manager Mod where you can selected a section of road and say no access for trucks (as well as private vehicle, trash, emergency vehicles, buses etc if you wish). I believe the tool is a car symbol with a red cross through it (second from the right on the top row?). I find it very handy for creating access points for Trash collection without introducing shortcuts for all the other vehicles.
13:25 Your issue comes down to have 2 Highway connections close, and people cutting through the city rather then stay on teh highway. On the left, you got the sports part double-dogbone in Olympic Island. On the right you got the intercity highway. And people trying to switch between them, cutting through the city. This is a case where an *additional* road causes an issue in cityplanning. You could try to give them another option, farther to the north. If not, then your only option would be to cut the road. Or at least cut vehicles from using that road. A ferry, pedetrian path or Tram could allow transfer between those sections, without inviting all the "highway switcher" traffic.
17:30 You need Drivers to stay on the highway as long as possible. They should only get off as close to the target as possible. Even if that means they are taking a massive detour around the entire citys Highway circle. The high speed gives them way more throughput then simple lane numbers would indicate. If you connect two highways for traffic, there is a problem with people crossing through the city to get to the target (rather then keeping on the highway).
I have played Sim City online for years and never did play Skylines until 2020. The very common statement I hear as an Admin for Sim City Tips and Tricks (one of the largest SC groups on FB) 'Skylines is better'- after playing Skylines for nearly a 1000 hours, I highly doubt this game is any better at all, traffic is just as glitchy, the buildings look like cartoons and it is very lonely playing it (nothing like SC server play at all and cant compare in this area).
