Glad to see its coming back a bit, terrible fish kill there 15 years ago, used to have some monster smallies in there. 4-5 lbs was common in the winter months.
I see you getting tuned up for our Newton trip. From my winter power plant lake experience shad patterns are always king. Grinders Gonna Grind man 👊🏻 Good video!
I was under the impression all the power plants in Illinois weren’t running anymore. Coffeen, samgchris, Egypt. Always overlooked this lake but I will have to try it. Thanks for the video.
Been on that lake twice. Both times we were after blue cat. Have to make a trip down some time and catch some bass on it. Especially with the warmer water
That Power Plant lake is living up to it's reputation. That's too bad about those birds, under normal conditions you don't see many dead birds, so it makes to wonder, where do birds go to die? Finley was profilin and stylin in her sweater.
Another great Tin & Fin production! Nice fish! And you're bringing back some memories. We lived in Sparta (next town east) for nearly ten years and took the kids to that same boat ramp to feed geese. Recognized that four-way intersection and you likely drove right by the farm of a gentleman I used to work with. Those cooling lakes are "perched" to catch prevailing winds to try and keep the water temp down. Some up here along the I-80 corridor (LaSalle, Heidecke nuclear stations) are really perched high and even have sirens to alert boaters to get off the water when the wind picks up. Also know what you mean about those highlines. Was at Braidwood cooling lake years back when they were generating full time and that popping and cracking can humble you really quick! As always, give Fin a scratch behind the ear and have a safe New Year! We'll be following you throughout 2025!
Thanks Kevin. Appreciate the education on the perching. Makes sense. Those power lines are uncomfortable to fish around. Fin said thanks for the scratch and thanks for all the support in 2024 buddy.
Thanks Gabe, I ain’t never seen a nuclear power plant lake, seems like you had a good day, you mind telling me again what kind of crankbait you were using, thanks buddy Happy New Year
Appreciate the watch. It was a good day, and yeah those power plants make for some warm water bass fishing. I was catching them on the Bill Lewis SB-57. Great bait.
Avian flu is pretty bad this year from what I hear bunch like that at carlyle too but I think alot of time those snow geese get shot at and not killed then go to the lake to roost and die there
Love that you are doing this series again!
Thanks. It's fun.
You had it dialed in with that crankbait!!
They were on it.

Man I'd love to catch a smallmouth out of there.

You bet, can't wait to hit Newton! I'm always glad I got out there. Watching your Newton video when it was 20 degrees inspired me to not wuss out.
I’m a big fan of the ATV. Definitely try the SB-57
Give it a try

There's a few still in operation but things could change.
Newton scheduled to shut down in 2027.
@FishingRandomPlaces baldwin is online through 2027. Egypt still runs 1 unit, coffee is not in operation, I dunno about sangchris.
@@fishinfoo2277 good to know. Yes I know coffeen for sure does not run anymore.
@@fishinfoo2277 Thanks for the updates.

Check it out. I think your bladed jig would work great.

Glad I'm not the only one that gets the drum chasing stripers out there
Those drum are aggressive but fun to catch until you burn through all your swimbaits. Thanks for checking out the video.
Thanks for the awesome cranking video!
Welcome buddy. Thanks for stopping by.

Nice to see you back up this way
Thanks. Hoe to get back soon.
I have been throwing the bill Lewis SB-57 for several years.
Cool. It's a good bait. Glad I found it.
Nice video, gabe never fished a powerplant lake, but thats like a 4 hour drive from central Iowa.
Ya that's a long drive. There are better hot water lakes that may be worth the drive.
Enjoyed your video--got to have a hot water plant to fish from.
Thanks for checking it out. It was a fun day.
Nice video, thanks for posting.
Thanks Jerry.
Good job of catching lots of decent fish. Interesting lake. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Steve
Nice video Gabe I haven’t seen any dead birds at KY
Thanks. Thanks for the bird update. It was creepy.
Good day , cranking fun . Thanks for sharing.
Yes sir. It was fun.
Great video. Thanks Gabe.

Is it just me or do the power plant lake fish fight harder 🤔
They fight hard at Egypt fo sho
Fish it while you can, plant is supposed to shut down in 25. Not sure what the future holds for the lake since it’s feds by pumps from the kaskaskia.
Man that sucks. Hate to hear that.
@ I lied, just saw an article posted 12/19 saying they are running it until 2027.
@@Braden-r8z Cool. A Few more years.

I think you're right on the geese getting shot. That's the first thing that came to mind.
When do you get your new boat??
Probably end of February.
@TheTinHorseMonty Awesome!!! Can't wait to see you fishing out of it!!!
Avian flu confirmed. Same thing happened last year. I called conservation that’s what they told me. Nice video btw
Thanks for the info
There's a lot of asian carp in that lake. Don't be nervous around them powerlines. They are to far away for good reasons.
Luckily I didn't see any carp.
Avian flu for sure.
Thanks Josh.
Shhhhh Gabe!! Lake sucks!! Lol
LOL I hear ya.
Shhhhh Gabe!! Lake sucks!!
👍👍
The dead birds are from flying into the power lines.
