At $27 a round that's almost 2.6 million dollars worth of ammo. That makes stingers and even bigger long range missiles look really really cheap..
And do you really think a human was in the seat of the target aircraft?
Now, put this scenario in the context of a Carrier Group.
What dose each ship cost? Just to build one?
Next, imagine that volume of fire from multiple points and angles.
To me, the Cost of the ammunition is MORE than woth the lives of the men aboard the ships.
Then there is the loss of a ship. Years to build JUST ONE.

Yep not cost effect at all plus the platform wouldn’t stor or fire that many rounds with a catastrophic breakdown it went melt tye barrels and also discharge ammo gos or the heat involved, nice graphics though I’m no gamer just like my guns ( safety 1st guys). Those should be a trio so the other two can get out front and save some rounds. It would also be good to one or two below the ridge across the chanel programed to eliminate the possibility of friendly fire.
Without a doubt, this is video game footage. C-RAM has been deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan against enemies with zero aircraft. It deals with missiles and artillery and mortar rounds.

I'm no expert on this and I am not qualified but, to me that seems to be an over abundance of ammo being used and the ratio of hit verses miss. I hope that system can be honed in better than this!

I love thinking about those things. Other then high altitude bombers your pretty much invincible to planes of that era
Pretty sure the cram has better tracking capabilities using radar. They shoot down incoming missiles, a fighter jet should be no problem of it gets within range. Problem is most jets can take out a target from outside a crams range.
You're talking human brain and logic versus computers... have you never outsmarted cpu enemies in a game to the point where it's almost no challenge?
Much more effective against targeted strikes and such, I'm sure.

Ammunition is much cheaper than a multi-rule fighter jet.
It's not really meant for shooting down Jets which could easily fly above it's range and bomb it to bits. I don't think the real deal could fire that many rounds without reloading. It's not just the 2.6 million dollars with the rounds that $96,000 shots would be it's the crew of eight it takes to run the generator maintain the gun and radars and keep the hydraulics working. It's good for defending a base from a surprise attack but it's not what you would use on a routine basis. You could get the crew down to three and still give those three soldiers seven stingers each and they could probably shoot down a jet and a helicopter with stingers to spare. Especially if the jet wants to drop down below 10,000 ft to get within the effective range of the c ran. The best use of money is not to put soldiers in harm's Way in the first place.

It would probably be more cost effective but could easily be shut down with remote interference or by directed EMP. Once a round is air born the only way to stop it is to get in it's way.

These graphics are great, but always show the aircraft deploying decoy flares. Flares are good for decoying infrared guided missiles, but bad for radar guided ballistic projectiles.

If the jet takes down that c-ram, the jet and his friends can enter the restricted air space, and damage what is most important, so it's better that they use all the bullets and missiles possible whichin this case is billions of dollars. But remember, them jets are also millions of dollars too, so the cram only put out $180 per every dollar the enemy used to attack them...
Just how many rounds would that thing hold in real life? How much does each round cost? They shoot those self detonating rounds so they dont come down on civilians I cant imagine they are cheap.

That’s about what I was thinking. Years ago when the Naval Gatling gun was testing my uncle was working on that while in the service. He told me that was the most expensive ordnance they used. Thought that odd at the time. He told me what different missiles cost and what 30 seconds of firing the gun cost. Back then it was only $12 a shot.

That is the argument for Goalkeeper over Phalanx. The systems are very similar, but instead of using the Phalanx 20mm cannon, Goalkeeper uses the 30mm GAU-8 cannon best known for its use in the A-10. There isn't an aircraft in service that can take hits from a 30mm and remain airborne the way those target drones were taking the 20mm hits.

One, this is a video game. Two, they use tracers on the real thing. Three, the gun is computer controlled.

Nope. In real life it would be much more accurate, however the chances of an aircraft getting that close is pretty low. Generally they’re deployed to shoot down incoming projectiles like sub-sonic rocket, artillery and mortar threats (Hence the acronym C-RAM), and even if they were in this situation, they’re way more accurate in real life.
@@tapioca2768 yeah, I feel like in the video the CRAM was being controlled by a human player with skill issue because I remember even in Battlefield 3 it wasn't that hard to score hits on a jet on xbox 360 with a controller so with kb+m I feel it'd be way easier to track the target with the mouse. Though having played Arma this past week (first week owning any Arma title) if it AI controlled then I wouldn't be too too surprised because I've seen Arma AI do some pretty brain dead stuff.
