i played all the site songs in the car to my mum, this was her favorite. I was explaining to her how the vibe of the song was so weird and foreign and she fully forgot the song was from splatoon because it's so far removed from the normal sample heavy bombastic soundtrack
I think “splatoon music” can mostly fit in three categories: rock (battle and most story mode level music) pop (idol and splatfest music) and experimental techno art music (the off the hook DLCs mainly. They aren’t clean categories and there’s a lot of overlap and outliers but generally I think if people like “splatoon music” they are actually gravitating to one of these three categories, maybe two, but probably not all three
I've been playing Splatoon since the very first testfire on the Wii U, got me through a lot of rough times including splat 2. I got splatoon 3 on launch and almost 100% the whole story on day one. The music in this game is on a whole new level but when I first heard this after I beat site 3 I took a moment to put down my controller. I was in awe with this track and I uttered with out "This game is a masterpiece". I never knew some game about squids shooting there own fluids made me THIS emotional. this track is something else
I do LOVE the vocal tracks in Splatoon, but it is a breath of fresh air to get a track like this. Kinda feels like a song you'd hear in Gen4-Gen5 Pokémon.
Log 3. It’s been a few months since I’ve written here, but a lot has happened. The screens were finally installed along the walls. But it’s not like we expected. The screens mostly show people’s memories, but every so often, the image of a beautiful blue sky appears . My husband and I took in a couple of the orphans, and we’ve been raising them on our own. However, I fear sometimes that this place isn’t safe enough to settle down with my live and raise our adopted son and daughter. But I guess this place is technically the nicest place in the world, as it is the last after all. I’ve brought up with these thoughts with him and he always tells me I’m overreacting. Maybe tomorrow, the sky will appear for long enough to go out to the park?
(Spoiler alert) This song is so beautiful and yet somber at the same time, like it's alluding to how beautiful this place was when the humans were here, and how it makes you feel sad because they all died. But still, at least some of the beauty of their era survived. And now, the place has new meaning as it also is a major location in your quest to escape, and so it seems that the land is metaphorically seeking redemption, hoping that you escape, even when the humans did not.
Great observation! I also agree that it comes across as a lament. It is also heartbreaking because this is the CRYO STASIS area in Alterna. It is as if the first generation Alternans accepted the possibility that humanity could commit the same prideful mistakes they have in the past. The cryo chambers are a necessary response to this. Like you mentioned above, surely anyone who successfully wakes from the chambers would have to beg forgiveness for the state of the planet. Cheers!
I totally agree with this. I think it perfectly reflects what’s happening in the lore right now in Log 3. Humanity is recovering, and there is a lot of hope. Later on, then then add in the despair, which the song shows with this melancholy theme.
this makes me feel like i’m standing in a forest in october in the afternoon before sunset, it’s kind of cold and there’s a breeze but there’s no clouds and the sun is shining on my face through the trees
you can really feel the weight of the loss of humanity with this one like damn... It's so tragic it alludes to a place that was full of life now devoid of it.... beautiful
This is my favorite song in the game. If you haven't read the Alterna logs yet, I encourage to do so before reading my comment. So far the logs have only given information on what happened to humanity and how they managed to build a bunker to save the last remnants of humanity. Pretty tragic stuff so far. But at this point do they find the liquid crystals that reflect the desires and wishes of humanity. Of course they put these crystals on every wall they could find and this way regain what they have lost. The sky and the outside world before the catastrophe. For the first time in years, humans weren't just surviving in Alterna, they were living again. The overworld music so far has been more grounded at this point, either playing into the curious wonder in the Site 1 theme or the technical rebuilding process in the Site 2 theme. But as the name of Site 3, Cryogenic Hopetown, alludes to, this is the first time it takes on a more hopeful tone. It reflects the hope that humanity has regained in spite of their circumstances. But the theme also carries a somber tone, because as you can see yourself when looking around in Alterna, it didn't last for long. The overworld songs in Splatoon 3 are phenomenal. They reflect the story that Agent 3 is in, the surroundings they're in and most of all the logs about humanity. I don't know what this theme is called and Site 3 is definitely a more fitting name to help people find this video, but I almost think that name doesn't do this theme justice. I think the proper title for every overworld theme would be the corresponding log title. That's why, for me, this theme will always be called A New Sky
I love your view on this. This song is almost mournful, reflecting the dashed hope of the last of humanity. As a player, I had a glimmer of hope that there might be some last group of humans fighting to survive. There wasn't. And all that's left is their unfulfilled dreams and wishes living on in other lifeforms.
This song just reminds me of nostalgia. It doesn’t feel nostalgic, it just reminds me of back before school got stressful and everything felt great. I don’t know if this makes sense this is just what I feel when I listen to this song
There's just something about the acoustic guitar in this song... everything else is very bright and sounds like chimes, so it sticks out. It's only there for a bit of the backing at the main part of the melody, but when it gets its solo, however brief, that's when the song really hits you with all its melancholy. I like to think it's representing the brief connection you have with this long-dead civilization through the logs, and through octolings and inklings themselves. Especially since the log for this area tells you all about the crystals linking the two civilizations, both old and new.
I watched a Splatoon documentary (kinda) and hit hit me like a truck how much this game has change my life and how amazing it has been, and this track summarizes it all (if your wondering its called your an adult now and it pretty much summarizes the franchise as a whole)
WE FINALLY KNOW THE NAME OF THIS SONG FROM THE JUKEBOX MACHINE!!! It's "Two Shadows in the Sun," imma play this almost all the time along with site 6's theme (Hyper Driver).
Whats funny is that I have never even played Splatoon, neither knew the franchise in my entire life, I only know so little about it because of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Until, I played the third Splatoon game at around March this year, because my friend wanted me to get it so badly so we can play online together. So I did, and had a pleasant experience with the game. The story mode was great I even 100% it throughout it. While I was barely in site 3, I just stopped everything and listen to the music for a while. And I can tell that this is my favorite track, it feels tranquil yet upbeat? The lore in this game is crazy, that it got me collecting and reading all the Alterna Logs and Sunken Scrolls. This franchise is great, I should’ve knew this earlier. But hey, better late than never.
As someone who didn't play Splatoon until 3 in December, I'm glad you got the chance to experience this absolute MASTERPIECE of a game. That friend is an absolute legend.
Listening to this in the middle of the night is amazing. Up there with Taswell from Minecraft and Glasshouse with Butterfly from Machinarium as some of the most beautiful video game music of all time.
This one was always my favorite of the entire splatoon 3's story mode OST and it's just such a sad beauty I feel from this song. Sort of bitter sweet or cold serenity its hard to explain but its an unpleasant pleasantness. 😔
An awesome music for an awesome area. Even if it is just simple and dumb ice physics; in combination with this music it is incredible relaxing. I just used the ice, being in inkling mode and just throw myself to the ice constantly with those ramps.... for many minutes straight. It was a really relaxing moment for me :). EDIT:... I somehow forgot to put the word "music" idk why. I guess I was hypnotised by the song itself lol.
I have never finished any of the stories in the Splatoon Games. Perhaps I should go back and do that. Though I'd need to invest in a Wii U to do that first lol
I miss when splatoon was a colorful game about painting and making a mess. Now the colors are very limited and bland, and all the special are very boring and small and don’t feel chaotic. I miss when everything wasn’t balanced and it really felt like you were a free teenager hanging out with the “cool kids” and making messes and skateparks, malls, and warehouses.

This one specifically makes me wanna cry. It sounds kinda lonely, yet...hopeful? Empty, yet filling. It's...beautiful.
