This is great timing - I literally was googling this all day yesterday after I saw that harley came out with one for softails this week. Guys at the dealership asked me point-blank, “why would you want to shed weight?” SMH.

Lol absolutely man!! My favorite are the 70 year olds with their ultra limited or tri glides claiming that that is no place with a crank case partition and it’s only a transmission cover and they know more than I do because they have been working on bikes their whole life. Harley dude are some of the most stubborn people out there lol.
Way better option than the vented dipstick.

How is the battery 🔋 holding up so far ? Why are ppl saying not go with Lithium ? My Harley Davidson battery completely died on me. This will be my 3 battery within 3 years.
Did you watch the video? I couldn’t install it. Some people don’t like lithium because they don’t handle extreme cold well and they need a different charger

Hey Chris; been a while since I''ve commented on one of your videos but here goes. I tried the Lithium route last year but my experience was less than stellar and ended up switching back to AGM. I went with a Battery Tender brand battery that I bought off of Amazon. I did compare measurements and got the larger battery (still slightly smaller than stock AGM battery). So; the problem that I ran into. Not sure if this is true of other brands of lithium batteries but the Battery Tender battery had thermal protection that not only protected it from over heating but also protected it from COLD. So when the temps dropped in the winter the battery would go into protection mode and disable itself. This was supposed to be an easy thing to deal with by just resetting the battery with a button that is on the lead that comes with the battery. What it is supposed to do is short a reset terminal on the battery to the ground terminal. Well, not so much. In fact each time it happened I had to actually remove the battery from the bike and fight with it to get it to reset. I called Battery Tender support and they were ................ well lets just say it didn't pan out. We discussed the problem but they weren't as knowledgeable as I needed and they needed the serial number off the battery to do much more than scratch their heads. Needless to say the serial number on the battery is in a place that is not visible with the battery in the bike. Long story short after pulling the battery 3 of 4 times I got frustrated and switched back to AGM. Now in fairness I never did call Battery Tender back to try and arrange a replacement. I did some testing though and the lead operated as it was supposed to and should have reset the battery; AND the battery reset as it was supposed to once out of the bike sooooooooooooo not sure if a replacement was going to fix anything. Basically I threw up my hands and gave up. Also as a side note; Battery Tender NOT recommend keeping a lithium battery on a trickle charger; just an FYI. My thought was that the charger might keep the battery warm enough to keep it from going into protection mode. I've thought about doing some more research and revisiting lithium at some point, but NOT during the colder months LOL. Maybe next summer. Anyway hope you have better luck than I did. I'll be waiting to see how you make out if and when you try again.
Oh wow, that sucks. I’m sorry you had such a bad experience with that. I have heard people in very cold areas have some issues with the lithium from time to time, although I have not seen a huge amount of it so it might be brand specific and some might be worse than others depending on how their safety stuff set up. Fortunately in Florida I don’t have to worry about that sort of stuff since I never get that cold

@@RidinDad I live in Mississippi so not that far north of you. Certainly not what would be called cold climate, lol. And if your temps drop into the 30s or 20s it would trip the temp protection; or at least that was my experience.
Yeah we have about 2-3 days out of the year that it drops that low. Otherwise we are pretty warm unfortunately. Very interesting though. I’ll be curious in the future if I go lithium what my results are with cold weather. I wonder if you just had super bad luck and had one kinda “fragile” battery or if it’s a battery tender thing in general

I had an AGM battery in my riding mower, and never again will I have one. Tried to charge it and it started melting at the positive post 🔥 Actually caught on fire. On an 8 amp charger from harbor freight.
Sounds like either a freak battery issue or a bad charger or incompatible charger. That’s very rare and has nothing to do with the type of battery. Ago and sealed battery’s have been around forever with little to no issues
There are specific battery chargers for AGM batteries.They have a mode selection button and you have to set it to AGM to charge the battery.I have one for my Harley that has a connector that plugs into the charger cable on the bike.l also had to buy one for my 2023 Cadillac when I store it for the winter
Did you remove the fuse before removing the negative the positive ?
No. I never do
I wish you had shown how to disconnect the positive side. That's the most difficult for me to remove the battery.
Just unscrew with a long screw driver through the top
PIA to change out the battery on my 2018 HD softail Sport Glide. Original battery, lasted 6 + years , 4-10-2024, and the battery had a 3-2018 build code on it. My new battery is a D-2024, for April, 2024. Absolutely shitty design the way they shove all that wiring in there, on both sides of the battery. And the plastic case around the battery with the 3 tabs to lock in. Everything is wedged in there. Crappy design, HD, you need pygmy hands to get in there to reattach everything, not man sized hands. That monoshock is right in the way of everything.
My current bike is pretty obnoxious to get to and from too. The dynas with the side battery cover were perfect!
Had my battery die at the Galveston motorcycle rally. Took it to a Harley dealership and had it replaced on my 2020 fxst . when I got back to San Antonio could not get the battery tender to work. Have not removed side panel to look for oveaus but if you have a tip before I do it would be appreciated .
Honestly by best tip would be to replace it with the noco one. You can jump it and tender it same lead
Your bikes’ headlight is skewed; rotate downward left until level. Not a big deal until you ride on the interstate with your high beam!😂. Too, the Lithium batteries don’t charge well on most bikes; riders seem to get 12-18 months before they go bad. Since most lithium manufacturers say they’re designed to be charged ONCE yearly, it seems they don’t like bikers’ schedules and routine of weekly trickle charging. Larger CCA batteries only give what the circuit demands; so with a higher CCA battery IF your circuit shorts the damage is greater, that’s why we have fuses. Remember, being direct current the battery will give 100% of the charge instantaneously IF the circuit load draws it.
Right I get that, and I know the headlight is mixed up. The ring that holds everything together is currently without a screw as it rusted and I am in the middle of replacing it as of this video. So that’s why it’s all lopsided. It’s not normally like that
There's really not much reason to use a trickle charger if you ride your bike more than 20 minutes at least once a week. Either way I've seen plenty of people's bikes sit for MONTHS completely untouched, no charger, and start fine. Not really sure where the idea that the bike needs to be on a charger all the time came from, but it's quite prevalent; and unnecessarily so.
It’s a huge reason some of these battery’s go bad especially for guys in hotter climates such as myself. Does it “need” it? No mostly not. But it definitely helps maintain optimal usage and performance and has been proven to increase the battery life and health. I have my bike down weeks at a time for certain upgrades I do so trickle chargers definitely help me

What harness? You mean the single wire to the terminal on the positive side?
