I just wanted to say a big thank you for all the inspirational content. I have been outdoors all my life until illness put me on the couch for a few years. Your channel and a few others have helped me get back to it immensely. I did 15 miles in the showers yesterday and tested my new Rab Kinetic Alpine 2.0. jacket. I enjoyed every step, largely thanks to you and Blue. Cheers.
How do you get on with the Columbia jackets zipper being on the wrong side? When I tried one on it felt like trying to write left handed and I didn't buy it...
“It’s only really money, that’s all” Mate I respect this so much. There’s 2 resources we can spend in life, money & time. You can always earn more money, but you’ll never get a second back that you waste. Love that even though you wanted to be mad you still had a smile on your face pal We live and learn eh :)
@@BUSHMANandBLUE definitely mate. From personal experience there’s been many times when I have the intentions of going out camping on a Saturday. But by the time I finish work I find myself trying to talk myself out of it - I draw on your “just get out the door and get outside” philosophy, and always feel glad I did
Sorry about the drone but, I enjoyed your adventure with Blue. I must say that as for me, the pint, pizza and pub were more to my liking (and my old bones). I enjoy viewing your travels and occasional travails. I hope Blue and you have many more adventures to share with us!
Many thanks Al for all your hard work in 2022 enjoyed every episode. Wishing yourself and Blue a happy, healthy and safe 2023, sending all my best from Wales.
As others have said the drone is definitely worth repairing first. I've replaced the gimble ribbon on mine. Also once lost don't forget you can use the find my drone on the App. Keep up the good work. 👍
Oh Mate! Only 10min in and I’m still mourning and cursing the drone damage. It says it all that you can lose that and the cost of replacement on your mind and still be positive to continue making a video AND be positive in yourself 😳 You’re one in a million. I think some of us watching would have sat and cried, cursed and come home 😂
Great look round the caves Alan, they really are a good to explore, there’s something about bivvy camping in the winter, as long as you have the warm gear it’s spot on, what a place to wake up to 👌, great video mate, atb Mick 👍
Incredible, I thought how on earth is he going to sleep out in those temperatures. As always very prepared for every eventuality. A lesson for us all, well done.
I really enjoy your video and watching you and Blue navigate some pretty tough terrain and weather conditions. I had a similar experience with my drone, and I realized I hadn't recalibrated it after the first crash. Like yours, my drone had no visible damage, and it still flies as good as ever!!!
My fiancé and I watch you and Blue everyday and we absolutely love you both! We love Blue, he’s a cheeky boy and makes me want a third dog!!! You don’t need a drone either, your content without is more than enough so don’t worry too much about that! Merry Christmas 🎄 😊

Merry Christmas, Al. You've done a cracking job this year with the channel. I wish you and your family a great 2023, and I will definitely be at the next patreon meet up, keep safe👍
Those places bring back memories. I learnt how to abseil and prussick on the large face down to the pillar dividing the tunnel at Hodge Close. That was around thirty years ago.
Cheers Al, you deserved a pizza and a pint and Blue seemed to be loving that fire. Thanks for taking us exploring again. All the best for the new year and look forward to new adventures with you and Blue soon 💙
Sub-Aqua dived in Hodge Close many many times. What's incredibly impressing is that the water is over 32 metres deep, crystal clear and had a couple of cars/vans on the bottom as I recall. Interestingly there are extensive tunnel entrances in the underwater cliff faces at around 20 metres I think. Never went in them as there had been fatalities in there when divers had gone in without trailing lines to find their way back out, kicked up silt and ran out of air trying to get out. It's very commiting place, probably off limits now, certainly regarded as an extreme dive site as it's also at altitude and requires possible decompression stops. I've also fallen off that ladder trying to climb down in full kit holding my camera in one hand - Doh! That puddle behind you when you were on the crane is in fact another tunnel entrance but you have to have full kit on to duck under the ledge and surface a few metres away in another cavern. Thanks for the video and sorry about the drone! Blue is fantastic.
Absolutely loved watching you and the beautiful Blue wandering around the quarries 💖 not sure I would venture down into those dark caves 😅 looking forward to your next adventure 🤩
Great explore Al....I've not been to Hodge for years, so you've planted the seed for me to go back there. Thanks for all your great content this year and look forward to seeing more from you & Blue in 2023 👍🏻
what a cracking location , the quarry views were stunning , it was such a shame you had problems with your drone, I bet you would of captured some more great footage , looking forward to your next adventure , merry Christmas
What a sickener but well done for keeping a positive attitude Al. Thank you for all of your brilliant videos over the past year. Looking forward to seeing you and Blue in the coming year. I hope it's a great one for you. 😊
Ever since I've seen this quarry and Cathedral Cave on YT I've been wondering why I can't remember them. Having lived not far away we would definitely have gone there. So I asked mr Knowall Goggle and it seems that Hodge Close was still a working quarry when we left England in 61. Thank You again for all Your work, looking forward to next year's videos Elvira
Amazing video yet again, absolutely fantastic watch, just like to thank you Al and blue for 2022 been amazing footage to watch and inspirational all the way, can’t wait for 2023 bushman and blue, happy new year to you both, you are both legends in my eyes
We have recently been on a camp where a herd of around 17 cows decided to investigate our tents, meanwhile we are inside terrified of being trampled, they were licking, scratching and tripping over our guy lines. We made an escape leaving our other fellow camper in his tent alone surrounded by cows... our tent became unpegged and now has a snapped pole and ripped fly sheet (fjall raven abjsko dome 2) so that will also cost us a packet but at least we weren't injured and can live to tell the tale of an incredible experience that has created a very meamorable memorie! The joys of wild camping 👍🏼
Very cool and beautiful place! The quarries near me are not as beautiful, that is for sure! Hope you and Nicola and Blue have a wonderful New Year and that 2023 brings you all many awesome adventures!
that old saying push on tomorrow will be better sorry about the drone... you work it out excellent tour of mined you had me doing stills to look at the rock thanks lol Happy New Years Allen and Blue
Awesome place, I love cathedral cave, I've visited twice now, but I wasn't aware you could get down the small tunnels that start under the abseil wall, thanks for pointing that out Al. I had some mates abseil down the wall outside, I bottled it and opted to be camera man 🤣 I hope your having a great Christmas 👍🏻
I live about 500 feet from a large gravel pit here in Southwest Michigan and have spent a few nights sleeping in it with just a blanket and an old fashioned kerosene lantern. Unfortunately, the gravel pit runs parallel with a major highway, so its noisy all night. But it was fun watching the deer wandering all over and the coyotes howling. I think I'm going to get back in to my favorite pastime of flying box kites. I used to be the only child in my neighborhood that could fly a box kite. Also, I absolutely adore Blue, he reminds me of my dog that I had in my youth. Good old Fred, the English Beagle... I'm 64 years old now and still dream about him and he died in 1978. I so enjoy your videos, the more violent the weather the better! Anytime I have a chance to sit out during a storm I'm in it! My wife and I were Traveling Nurses as well as amateur storm chasers. Cheers.
Been in the cathedral cave with my then 10 year old son , didn't hang around though as on way back from slaters Bridge, he was tired, shame we didn't explore more cos those tunnels look amazing! I've marked down as a place to go to next year on my adventures over the lakes , again great video allen and blue
Greetings and Salutations I have been trying for a camping experience at the local quarry in my hometown, but it's becoming different because of the time I spend in mainland while visiting wisconsin it's in the Americas Great upload 😊
A couple of years back someone had put an old upright piano in the centre of cathedral cave, it was out of tune and had some keys missing but it still sounded eerily good as it echoed around
Hi Al🧔 and Blue🐺 Great video blog again Loved it. Sorry to see you broke your drone hopefully it mite be a cheep fix fingers crossed .All the best from Tommy Yorkshire. 😊👍✨✨✨✨✨✨
sorry to hear you had drone trouble. Ours decided to go straight up into some trees but the nice men at the Drone Doctor managed to mend it. Looks like you had a good evening and night!
Wow…what a gorgeous place. I need to go vacation over there and do some photography 🥰 beautiful. So sorry about the drone. Would of loved to see some views from there. Do you ever go canoeing? That lil water would of been fun to take a lil canoe on 😝. Hope you had a great Christmas 🎄
6:23 face in the rocks. 😁 Great place to explore Al, never mind for the kids. Love old quarries and caves. Nice bivvy camp too, I probably would have just slept in the motor. 😆
I went camping in minus 6 once and it was one of the worst nights of my life😆 all I had to keep warm was 3 hoodies and my bed covers from home, didnt get a minute of sleep just shivered all night thinking my toes where gonna fall off so kudos to you for doing this in just a bivvy bag Haha you're a brave man
My favourite walk is a circular walk from Tilberthwaite farm and takes in both quarries ! You where very lucky to have them all to yourselves ! Cathedral is my favourite too! Apparently the big puddle in the first main chamber is a flooded tunnel ! I don't know if that's true or not though ! Awesome video ! Thanks ! 👍
Brrrrrr at the inside of your bivi. We love quarries All. We have one right by us, which I have frequented from the age of 5 yrs. It was a working quarry those days, and it opened as a country park in 1977. Now there's another that's abandoned now so, we want to explore it. This was very welcome to watch as we arrived home from North East Yorkshire after having an amazing Christmas with family 👪
May I wish you and your family a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. Thank you for amazing and highly inspirational videos. So sorry about the drone! ❤
Another amazing video was at the cara my self a few moths back never been to the quarry but need go hope u get drone fixed keep up the great work n thanks for all u do al n blue
Happy New year Blue (and Alan.) i was going to write a large monologue, about caving as a youngster in Somerset and seeing Cumbria as a 12 year old and how it totally blew my mind . Height dramatic scenery, and what that gave me.. Freedom to dream. fears challanged upon Striding edge and clagged in on Scafell . it put in motion a hunger. Through you (and Alan) those wonderful moments i can visit once again, Thank you, thank you for all inspire and all you enable .You are an amazing man Alan. and Blue you simply astound me, Been a fantastic year because of your Dedication to inspiration. ATVB2U Scott Somerset
Al It's possible your drone IMU was confused due to satellite signal reflections bouncing on the walls of the quarry. My bet is the drone is fine, just choose to fly it in more open locations. Nice bivi camp and amazing quarries:)
The feel your pain with the drone ive crashed 3 of them over the years and didn't replace it after the 3 loss Your drone footage is always epic but it not what makes your channel great. 2022 has been brilliant watching your adventures and we look forward to seeing what you get up to in 2023 Enjoy the rest of Christmas and Happy New year guys
The other quarry is called Peritt quarry and there are a couple of fish in the pool at Cathedral Cave that i actually saw :-) Great vid again BM&B thank you :-)
Sweety, wonderful as always. Could you please do a whole post on Blue? ...maybe how you manage the connection with him and how you and your dad trained him?...and a compilation of his 'Best bits' from your various posts. I don't have a dog of my own but would dog sit him any day !!! xxx Best wishes for the New Year darling and may you be blessed with even more exponential growth and success for your channel xx
Great vid, I expect the drone just needs a recalibration, worse case scenario there are good firms fixing drones online for not much £££. Happy New Year to you and Blue 🙂
Enjoyed this, one of my favourite areas of the lakes. Hope the drones fixable, the bivvy spot was where I recognised, camped there a few times the view to langdale is spectacular. Atb for 2023 explores will definitely be watching
Hello Bushman. This takes me back. Have you ever heard of the 'rave in the cave'? This was just above Hodge Close. Back in the late 80's /early 90's, folk used to mock to Hodge Close after the rave clubs in the NW of England shut and ravers would dance into the morning Sun. There would be hoards of folk tearing up the M6 at stupid o'clock in the morning just to get there. In the end, the cave was blown up due to H&S concerns. That was at the top end of Hodge Close. Probably a good idea come to think of it. Anyway, hope you and Blue are keeping well. Happy NY.
Great video. Just wondering did you do the compass calibration and IMU calibration as that is one thing that can throw DJI drones off. The IMU one should be done away from any metal surfaces and on a flat surface. The compass calibration should be done every time you move location as it helps the drone.
Boy o Boy what a cracking Video two brilliant places I’ve done them quite a lot over the years. Its amazing just how much warmer it gets inside the caves. I gasp in awe when you look at the graft those old timers must have done in those quarries really hard and cold long days. They were men them days. What a shame about the drone hope you can get it fixed. Anyhow Allen as usual a Top Notch video. All the best Take Care B. K. Cheers
Big problem is when the fine dust is disturbed the visibilty is less than 2 feet ! PLEASE follow safety procedures ! Such as surface team, diver roped to surface, diving in pairs etc. EXPERIENCED DIVERS ONLY !
Another few quality videos to see the year out! Nice work mate. Another few places to add to my list of places to visit. Good to see you found the extremely rare cave Dog down in the depths of that cave!😂
I feel your pain and disappointment. Having my drone crash, fly away or land in water are probably my biggest fears when hiking and wild camping. I've not had that happen to me, but i've had a few scary moments.
Found Cathedral Cave a couple of months ago and as I am 6’3” I hit it on roof claret everywhere it was like a razor through butter. It was raining too to blood everywhere. Good job wife had a tissue or 10
Happy Christmas Allen and Blue, another good video, apdapt and overcome mate that's one of the things you're really good at, just getting on with living with zero twining 👊. Gutted for you with the drone as I do love the drone footage you get but hey you will survive, just hope people keep viewing these videos and enjoying them and learning as much as I do. Atb to you, blue and the family for the new year and catch up in the new year 👌
How waterproof are bivi bags ? What's inside the water should have gone for a swim 😂😂😂😂 🏊 Great video love the beautiful landscape Hope you and blue have a great Christmas and a great new year

Al It's possible your drone IMU was confused due to satellite signal reflections bouncing on the walls of the quarry. My bet is the drone is fine, just choose to fly it in more open locations.
Nice bivi camp and amazing quarries:)
Yes maybe although taking a hit may have caused it. Hopefully I’ll sort it👍
Love your videos Al, hope you and your family and Blue had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Its Chrismas time guys ... Lets support Al and Blue a little bit ... So he can upgrade to DJI Mini 3 Pro ✌️❤️🧑🎄
😊 thank you. I’m hoping I can get the drone sorted
The feel your pain with the drone ive crashed 3 of them over the years and didn't replace it after the 3 loss
Your drone footage is always epic but it not what makes your channel great.
2022 has been brilliant watching your adventures and we look forward to seeing what you get up to in 2023
Enjoy the rest of Christmas and Happy New year guys
Thanks mate 👊. I’m looking forward to another year😬
Season greetings
sorry merry christmas to you and beautiful blue ❤️❤️
Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄. I would have cuddled with Blue and slept in the SUV!
So would I, there is no way I'd have left my Dog and gone that far away from him ....sleeping in the SUV would've been perfect.
Very spooky. You should start a drone fund on here every one likes it. Happy New Year to you.
I don't have a dog of my own but would dog sit him any day !!! xxx
Best wishes for the New Year darling and may you be blessed with even more exponential growth and success for your channel xx
I might do at some point as it’s important for people to get the most out of their dogs through training and adventure. He is awesome!
Just watching now. Nightmare about the drone!
Great vid, I expect the drone just needs a recalibration, worse case scenario there are good firms fixing drones online for not much £££. Happy New Year to you and Blue 🙂
Hi. LIKE. LIKE. CAMPING.
GREAT ATTITUDE
Enjoyed this, one of my favourite areas of the lakes. Hope the drones fixable, the bivvy spot was where I recognised, camped there a few times the view to langdale is spectacular. Atb for 2023 explores will definitely be watching
Yes quite an easy camp there👍
I’m interested in Bivys. I would , we would, love a gear review from you on your experience with them- what works and what does not. Thanks!
Happy NY.
Wow! Absolutely brilliant. Kids these days have missed out on all that. I only got the late 90’s to enjoy that scene 👌
that was absolutely brilliant. Now subscribed and following. I adore your dog Blue . hoping you can get your drone fixed.
Welcome 😬
Great video. Just wondering did you do the compass calibration and IMU calibration as that is one thing that can throw DJI drones off. The IMU one should be done away from any metal surfaces and on a flat surface. The compass calibration should be done every time you move location as it helps the drone.
I will definitely be looking after any future drones👍
Boy o Boy what a cracking Video two brilliant places I’ve done them quite a lot over the years. Its amazing just how much warmer it gets inside the caves. I gasp in awe when you look at the graft those old timers must have done in those quarries really hard and cold long days. They were men them days. What a shame about the drone hope you can get it fixed. Anyhow Allen as usual a
Top Notch video. All the best Take Care B. K. Cheers
Yes the temperature change was unreal. This is why ground source heat pumps work. I need to build a bunker to live in next 😬
Yes you can’t beat nature. All the best. B. K
Happy New Year to. Bushman and. Blue. All the best. Take Care Cheers. B. K
MEMORIES OF SCUBA DIVING IN THAT QUARRY 40 years ago 👍There's caves/tunnels underwater !
Yes it would be great to explore 👌
Big problem is when the fine dust is disturbed the visibilty is less than 2 feet ! PLEASE follow safety procedures ! Such as surface team, diver roped to surface, diving in pairs etc. EXPERIENCED DIVERS ONLY !
Yes I heard a few have died there over the years.
Another few quality videos to see the year out! Nice work mate. Another few places to add to my list of places to visit. Good to see you found the extremely rare cave Dog down in the depths of that cave!😂
Definitely worth going mate. We could maybe add it in to the patreon camp👌
@@BUSHMANandBLUE good shout 👌
I feel your pain and disappointment. Having my drone crash, fly away or land in water are probably my biggest fears when hiking and wild camping. I've not had that happen to me, but i've had a few scary moments.
Found Cathedral Cave a couple of months ago and as I am 6’3” I hit it on roof claret everywhere it was like a razor through butter. It was raining too to blood everywhere. Good job wife had a tissue or 10
Ouch mate!
Atb to you, blue and the family for the new year and catch up in the new year 👌
Cheers Si. I’m hoping I’ll have the drone sorted asap. It definitely adds to the videos showing off these places from above. Take care old boy👊
@@BUSHMANandBLUE yeah definitely does show them off in a different way mate. Haha I will do young fella 😂
Nice to see you at the chevin chase, Alan. Well done mate, will check out the vid with your dad!
Yes it was a good day mate👊
How waterproof are bivi bags ?
What's inside the water should have gone for a swim 😂😂😂😂 🏊
Great video love the beautiful landscape
Hope you and blue have a great Christmas and a great new year
Very water proof generally but not ideal in the rain as you can’t move.
I've visited that cavern a couple of times , always wondered how deep that pool of water in the corner is ?
I’m not sure. It doesn’t look deep but you never know
