My parents only knew each other for three months before they eloped. They are different races, and my mom’s family did not like my dads (because of race). They were also poor, so they got married at the courthouse. 28 years later and they are the happiest couple to this day. Five kids, three dogs, two birds, and my dad has a wonderful job now. The two families get along wonderfully now too! Weddings aren’t everything. They’re just a display. A big wedding doesn’t mean big love.

This makes me so happy. That is exactly what a wedding is about. Not fancy locations, expensive ceremony or big dresses. It's about love. About marrying your better half and be with them for the rest of your life. You can be happy without all that big fancy schmancy stuff that everyone makes you believe you need to have to be happy. It's not about the surrounding or the clothes. It's about two people loving each other. Because if you do, then it doesn't matter what the rest of the ceremony looks like. I wish you both a long and prosper life, with love and health surrounding you and your loved ones ❤️

And not every wedding needs to be a huge event, what matters is everyone had a great time and it was about love not money. A wedding should be about the people getting married not the guests. To assume the family and friends didn't have a good time because it wasn't traditional, huge and expensive is a problem on your part not theirs.

I eloped with my husband last year in December and it was very beautiful with only my dad there to take pictures and give me away, we then drove 3 hours to the mountains to take pictures and after we had a 2 week long honeymoon staying in a remote cabin, exploring mountains and the little towns where we got married. It was around Christmas time so everything was 10x more beautiful. I definitely think more people should elope, it's more magical!!!! Best wishes xoxo

My parents didn’t have a grand wedding despite how they both came from well off families. Everyone knew they were getting married, but only their best friends went to the wedding. My mom wore a pretty white suit and a carried a nice bouquet. They could have afforded a much grander wedding, but opted on something incredibly small and simple. Weddings don’t really matter in the long run, and if the wedding being grand or being simple holds a different level of significance to the people getting married, then the likelyhood is that they shouldn’t be getting married. You don’t have a wedding because you’re getting married. You’re getting married so you’re having a wedding.
Its so nice to see people getting married for love, I know some girls want the big fancy wedding and the idea of this always freaked me out because it is such a common thing nowdays to go over the top. Cool that they did that and I’m happy for them but i feel like a lot of the comments are putting down “traditional” weddings like it isn’t just a waste of money to many, all those things make it even more of a special day, the dancing, all the guest it’s fun and something to look back on. I for one want a huge wedding, really traditional and everything. Cool for them and those that don’t, at the end the love is what matters.

I'm having a traditional Italian French Wedding this year and I can say that the "traditional way" is a beautiful way of getting married. To me it is not only coming together with the one I love, but it is a rite of passage in my family because I am the last of 31 first cousins to get married. Weddings are a big deal in my family in also the religious sense where we want to have our marriage blessed in the church and be able to have the Holy Spirit present in our married life. Yes weddings can be expensive, however I would like to change the perspective to have a wedding as an investment for our future and the future of our children because I believe traditions now a days are not valued the same way as the past and to me that is a shame. We want to pass down traditions to our kids and this is one of them to have their dream wedding. I feel that yes it may be nice to elope, but deep down inside there will always be that regret that a person did not have their big white dress, or their families around in person, or they didn't get a father/daughter dance and often this regret comes too late when a person is older. I have heard many regret stories from those who elope and they all talk of having some sort of regret. All in all a persons going to do what is right for them and that's alright, however please do not put down "tradition" like its a bad thing.

My parents didn’t have a grand wedding despite how they both came from well off families. Everyone knew they were getting married, but only their best friends went to the wedding. My mom wore a pretty white suit and a carried a nice bouquet. They could have afforded a much grander wedding, but opted on something incredibly small and simple. Weddings don’t really matter in the long run, and if the wedding being grand or being simple holds a different level of significance to the people getting married, then the likelyhood is that they shouldn’t be getting married. You don’t have a wedding because you’re getting married. You’re getting married so you’re having a wedding.
Its so nice to see people getting married for love, I know some girls want the big fancy wedding and the idea of this always freaked me out because it is such a common thing nowdays to go over the top. Congratulations on your marriage and I wish you both a happy life together. No stress, no fuss. It's all about the love and it's so refreshing to see.

Cool that they did that and I’m happy for them but i feel like a lot of the comments are putting down “traditional” weddings like it isn’t just a waste of money to many, all those things make it even more of a special day, the dancing, all the guest it’s fun and something to look back on. I for one want a huge wedding, really traditional and everything. Cool for them and those that don’t, at the end the love is what matters.

I'm having a traditional Italian French Wedding this year and I can say that the "traditional way" is a beautiful way of getting married. To me it is not only coming together with the one I love, but it is a rite of passage in my family because I am the last of 31 first cousins to get married. Weddings are a big deal in my family in also the religious sense where we want to have our marriage blessed in the church and be able to have the Holy Spirit present in our married life. Yes weddings can be expensive, however I would like to change the perspective to have a wedding as an investment for our future and the future of our children because I believe traditions now a days are not valued the same way as the past and to me that is a shame. We want to pass down traditions to our kids and this is one of them to have their dream wedding. I feel that yes it may be nice to elope, but deep down inside there will always be that regret that a person did not have their big white dress, or their families around in person, or they didn't get a father/daughter dance and often this regret comes too late when a person is older. I have heard many regret stories from those who elope and they all talk of having some sort of regret. All in all a persons going to do what is right for them and that's alright, however please do not put down "tradition" like its a bad thing.
