I honestly agree with this ... I guess in the order of things/ events. In my opinion, it's smarter. It doesn't make sense to blow tens of thousands of dollars on a fancy wedding that's going to last for a day, maybe a week at most usually - though usually a day. And people spend A LOT on weddings! There's a reason why the wedding industry is doing so well. Where as, I think that realistically, it makes more sense to spend that money on more important things first. Like being able to support one another and build a future that both marriage partners can be a part of. And then maybe if you've covered all of that first and you have the extra money (that doesn't need to be saved for your children's education etc - if you plan to have kids) then HELL YEAH, throw a big wedding party. Of course, I'm not by any means saying that spending a lot of money on a big wedding BEFORE dealing with future costs is a bad thing. It's not. But I think that maybe switching up the order is freaking awesome and smart too. And I did think that it was a little ridiculous that Taylor had to explain why they did what they did and fend of accusations - I don't know her voice sounded a little anxious while talking and honestly, she shouldn't have to feel that way - also, not trying to victimise her.

And those people that say that their wedding was "too small" or "not fancy enough" can shove it as well. It's not your wedding. It's not your money that they're spending. So you have literally zero say in how they do it. I think Taylor has a lovely wedding. Also, a wedding day is a celebration of happiness for the union of two people. Congratulations Taylor! This sounds kind of creepy but I see you at a restaurant right now and I'm trying to be polite until you and Elbow-san finish eating to say hi!!!! I totally fangirled internally though.
I was most suprised not because i didn't find it romantic (I thought it was super cute and romantic!!!!) but because I thought it was like an aspiration of yours to have a traditional ceremony. But now that I think about it I may have thought that just because you documented so beautifully the marriage ceremony of your sister and best friend hahaha and also tried dresses recently, because when I think about it carefully, this was also a very Taylor thing to go for :D Congrats Taylor! I do look forward to seeing you in a wedding dress though.
My husband and I got engaged in April and got married in August. We decided on a backyard wedding with only 22 people including ourselves. Many thought I was pregnant and had choice words about how we chose to have our wedding. However, we’ve been married over a year now and living life. We’re actually about to make a big move too!! Do what makes you happy and what works for you!! Don’t let pressure force you into doing something you didn’t want.
I eloped as well. We did it in NYC and then hopped on a plane for a dream European honeymoon. We weren't going to have a lot of monetary help for the wedding, so we opted for the honeymoon instead. I'm not a center of attention party person so it was perfect for us. Loving binging your videos while chilling at home with a new baby 👶🏼💕
One thing that I learned from this vid is "People will always judge you no matter what you do. So, you might as well do what you want." Thank you Taylor for these words. I feel so much better now...
The point about ppl having opinions no matter what you do is so true.. My friend had a gorgeous wedding + dream dress and people criticized her for being wasteful + marrying for money - however my cousin had a small wedding and people said her husband was cheap and didn't love her. So yep i think as long as you guys are happy that's all that matters, and for the girls that are getting married do what makes YOU happy!!
Honestly as I get older I think that eloping is probably a good idea! Weddings are stressful, and I often hear the phrase that the bride and groom are not supposed to enjoy their wedding day! Because of the stress of everything going right etc. I feel like if you get married beforehand there might be less pressure! And with 2 cultures, I’d imagine maybe you’d also possibly have to organise 2 weddings or incorporate both cultures into the ceremony, so getting the important part (the marriage) done and doing the other things done in both of your own time is nicer I think!
It's sad that people have made you feel like you need to explain yourself and the decisions you've made. I personally thought your wedding was beautiful and full of love. Which is all you need. Congratulations Taylor, me and my husband are so happy for you! 💜💜 you don't need to explain yourself to anyone.
おめでとう! I´ve been watching your channel since your bedroom tour video haha. Anyways kind of feels like a familymember got married. I wish you both the best!
Aww, me too >< I remember how i always waiting for her to upload vid (because she didnt upload much regularly like now) and seeing she change from that lolita girl to a mature version of Taylor. Wow. How time flies..
Same lol. I thought it was running away to get married when your family does not approve or marrying in secret idk. But I can understand what she means by it
My husband and I opted for a small wedding (much to our families disappointment) and we have never regretted it. The only thing I regret is not eloping. Our families are both from the same country and it was hard enough to please everyone the entire time. I can only imagine what you went through! I have no doubt you made the right choice!
You guys did it the right way. Quick and simple. It doesn’t need to be a production like how some people make it out to be. At the end of the day it’s always going to be you two and that’s what matters. I hope you both enjoy your life together! ❤️
We did a small intimate wedding. We just had a beautiful quiet ceremony in the garden of a luxury rental home and hired a private chef for dinner. It was so perfect and I wouldn’t change anything. So many of our guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been to. Small weddings are the way to go!
❤ Thank you for everything you said. It means a lot. People shouldn't follow the rules and do things in order that society expects them... People need to marry whoever they want to and whenever they feel like it... or never. It is up to your priorities in life and what you really want not what others want. I was scared of having to plan a big wedding one day and I was worried about the money and stress and you helped me realize what I want: I just want to marry the love of my life in a very simple, quick way and spend the money on things we need, future children, traveling - cause that is what we want the most in life. And I feel so happy and relieved right now so thank you! ❤
Housing in HK is super super EXPENSIVE! Late congrats Tay tay, been with you since you just started in Japan touring your dolly room and you never say anything, quite and chill like always. Look at you now after so many years watching you married now. Happy for you :)
The elopement is a bit surprising at first, then it seems totally normal when I see how happy you are! This marriage just looks like you: having fun, be simple and happy! 😉 Congratulations again! 😘😘 PS: I am super excited to see vlogmas!!!!!!
You have really come into your own this year Taylor. I think a different and younger Taylor wouldn’t have considered her own happiness over what others wanted from her, and I’m so happy you’ve grown to embrace this. I wish you the best of luck and can’t wait to see you flourish 💕💕💕
dating for 5 years that's a long term commitment the elopement was quick and stress free. managing a wedding takes a long time and can be stressful there's nothing wrong with eloping
I love this!! My motto was “if we walk out married, any wedding is a success!!” What a special and perfect thing for you two. My husband and I honestly wish sometimes we had eloped and thought about it many times! . We had a beautiful wedding I don’t regret it but weddings can often feel like they’re not really about you guys (people were a mess at our wedding and we spent a lot of it feeling like people couldn’t make it not about them lol) and while we look back on it fondly still, we’ve decided at our ten year or something we’re going to renew our vows privately between us two so we have a special private moment!
My family is very superstate too. I’m 35 single and I have no kids. But I swear my relative seem to be annoyed of my choices in life. I hope that one day they will stop questioning my happiness. Good for you Tay and your family as well.
Heck I wasn’t even engaged and we eloped after 11 months. Heck my husband didn’t ask if we were dating, we’re weird 😅. Anyways figured we have a proper ceremony on our 5 year anniversary with family.
You don't have to do a wedding ceremony but you can do a renewing of vows ceremony on an anniversary! If you guys want to write your own vows that fun to do on an anniversary, especially because you had to read the cards 😊
CONGRATS BABE!!! girl eloping was the best thing my husband and I did and now we are trying for a little one wouldn’t that be cute if we found out on the same day we are pregnant
Whether you eloped or not, you still deserve happiness and the support of your families. These things are the ones that matter. You just both enjoy your married life. Congratulations!
I completely agree with you! What you did inspires me. Maybe movies have shown us what fairytale love is "supposed" to be like, but I'm glad there are wonderful couples like you guys to show what real love, partnership, and commitment is like. I'm so happy for you and wish you all the happiness in the world as well!
Congratulations Taylor. I recently got married in the UK and I was in the exact situation as you. I was in the UK with a student visa, which will expire in 2019. My husband proposed in July and we got married at the end of Sep. Things happened really quickly and there are so many people thinking I am pregnant or think I am too young to get married. However, like u said, my husband and I were just so ready to get married. I couldn't thought of a better person to spend my life with. Getting married and having the visa just make OUR FUTURE easier, so we can move on together. I had a massive wedding party last Saturday with 130 guests and it was an awesome night! I completely understand and support your decision. All the best to you and your husband xxx
Seeing you two progressing with these big life phases I cant wait to experience them too with my boyfriend. I cant wait to get married, buy our first own home and plan a family together. I hope all the best for you guys, see you on vlogmas!
Even though I am / we as viewers are strangers, I really appreciate her authenticity in stating that they are not even trying to get pregnant. She definately does not owe that to us, but she says it anyway and I love it!!!!!
I loved your talk about your wedding decisions! :3 Especially as someone like you who has a "public" life, it's a really cool choice. The wedding is just between two people after all, and nothing else counts.
Can I just say I’m really pleased with vids that are basically you talking in the car like it could seem boring if you say it like that but I’m really happy to see this chapter and I think we’re all excited to see what’s to come!
I totally understand the desire to just get the wedding over with so you can move on to more important things, like starting a family. I was determined to not spend more than 10k on my wedding (almost everyone else I know spent at least 20k and that made me feel ill to think about), and we came in just under 9k in total so I was very pleased. We came out of our wedding completely debt free, and we paid for most of it ourselves, so we started our marriage in a really great place financially to save for a home and to start a family. I'm not shaming people who want big expensive weddings, but it makes absolutely no sense to me to waste so much money on what is essentially a fancy party when that money could go towards starting your life together. The marriage is far more important and valuable than the wedding. I've been married for a year and a half now and people still ask me if it feels any different or if anything has changed, but honestly it is exactly the same. My husband and I have been together for 4 years and we are best friends as well as partners. We always have been, so there is no difference for us. I'm glad it feels that way for you too, because I think it is a sign of a strong, healthy, lasting relationship. Anyway, congratulations to the both of you. I hope your marriage is filled with so much love and happiness, and I also hope that you guys start a family soon... >.> My hubby and I are trying for a baby, and it would be awesome to follow a youtuber who is going through the same thing! (But no pressure, obviously! lol)
My husband and I eloped too. We we're just going to have our pastor sign our certificate but they actually surprised us and decorated and bought us a wedding cake as a surprise wedding. It was so nice because we got to just focus on the joy of being married and not the stress of planning a wedding and worrying about unnecessary things. I think a lot of people just assume people elope because they are pregnant because they think everyone wants a big wedding and the whole shebang. But it is nice to have a cheap no fuss start to your marriage and you can always have bigger ceremony later if you want. But Congratulations! Much happiness and success in you marriage!
I loved you're eloping video, because it shows how beautifully planned/ simple an elopement can be. In the not so distant future I can see more elopement ceremonies like yours becoming extremely common/ popular.
I just love Natalie. I was on the fence about her in the beginning but she's pretty cool. She's got a great sense of humor and she's pretty chill. You two make a great team.
Congrats! We did the exact same thing and announced it over Facebook. We had been together for over 11 years so it was time and it was the best decision for us. Two years married and I have no regrets ❤️❤️
If I ever get married I never really wanted the big wedding thing. I want what you did and I am ok with that and people around me think I am weird because I think this way. Which truthfully I don't care what they say I never want a big wedding just give me nice dress and the person I love and I will be happy. 😊
Some of us had simpler weddings, some of us had shorter engagements, some of us are still waiting for the proposal (!) and all us are so happy for you and your wonderful husband. May you both weather the many years to come with love and kindness and gratitude for each other ❤️
I can't wait for the regular upload schedule with Vlogmas! I look forward to it every year. I figured sorting out your new home was probably why things have been a little bit quiet since your move to HK but I'm really excited to see it!
Congratulations to you and Tom, Taylor! I'm really happy that you followed your heart and not the pressure of societal norms. You looked amazing in your outfit, that hat/fascinator was freakin adorable and was such a good touch to the pink suit! You were so elegant and unique, I never expected a suit from you and I was so excited to see you do something so far different from the dresses you tried on. It SUITed you SUPER WELL! Tom seems so happy too. I hope your marriage lasts your whole life and is full of happiness and support. Love from a viewer of tons of years 💖
My Husband and I did a small "ceremony" with close friends and family. My husbands best friend officiated it. Neither of us regret it. Whats important is that you are happy! Congrats and enjoy the newly wed life!!
Taylor your POV is exactly mine when it comes to marriage. My husband and I got engaged last year August (2017) and we had been delaying getting together to have the ceremony because we didn’t have the money or the timing wasn’t right for family members; all these issues kept coming up. Then I did get pregnant ( we are in our 30s and ready) and it was like why wait now? So we eloped this past summer and couldn’t be happier. I didn’t have to waste money on a ceremony, I’m with the love of my life and we are settling in as new parents. You do what’s right for you and your spouse.
honestly that was a smart choice. and i Totally understand. Sometimes we all cannnot have the "fairytale" romance. What honestly defines "romantic". Movies? Disney? Korean dramas? Nah, your definition of romance is the amount of love you have for your partner. So happy for you and Elbow-San
My husband and I just eloped the last week of October! Def, the best decision we ever made. Congratulations! I hope you have a happy healthy life together! 💍

So happy to hear someone talk about this stuff the same way I think about it!!! I get it completely about doing things the way you want. Congratulations and I'm so happy for you both! 😁😁

I did the exact same thing this year. I got engaged on NYE and we decided we just wanted to elope. I’m Australian/Croatian & my husband is Filipino - we are 25 years old and have been together for 10 years. EVERYONE thought I was pregnant haha (I was not). I’m so happy with the decision I made. It was so intimate and way less stressful. Congratulations you two!! I agree and respect the decision you made. Wishing you both love and good health for your future X
I’m so happy you guys . You made the best choice . Getting married is all about sharing your life with the person you love not just for one day but for always congratulations
Hey taytay! I eloped with my husband in nyc (where I'm from) and we did it bc we're still in medschool. We decided to push the ceremony for later once we're actually making money 😂😂 It makes our lives convenient to "legally" be together, especially since we know we're meant to be together. But you're completely right, life happens, and who knows if we'll actually have a big fancy wedding down the line. All that matters is that we've made our promises to our loved ones and officially tied the knot in order to make that step towards the futures we're building together. Congrats!!! So happy for you!
This is exactly what I want to do. Weddings are a waste... but hey to each their own. I didn’t expect you to do this though Taylor lol. I thought you would have wanted a big extravagant wedding lol

Lol the assumption she even wants motherhood is wild
@@cityofage she...she said having a family is important in the video...i-
@@Sammeh42069 a family of two is also a family 😂 no children needed
sara LaRandom ya! No need to rush at least right?
Congratulations Taylor! This sounds kind of creepy but I see you at a restaurant right now and I'm trying to be polite until you and Elbow-san finish eating to say hi!!!! I totally fangirled internally though.
Did you say hi!?
BecomingTia did you say hi? X2
DID YOU SAY HI Omg I need to know
We need to know!!
It’s so cute to see a fan that has enough respect for youtubers as people to allow them to finish their meals before approaching them
I was most suprised not because i didn't find it romantic (I thought it was super cute and romantic!!!!) but because I thought it was like an aspiration of yours to have a traditional ceremony. But now that I think about it I may have thought that just because you documented so beautifully the marriage ceremony of your sister and best friend hahaha and also tried dresses recently, because when I think about it carefully, this was also a very Taylor thing to go for :D
Congrats Taylor! I do look forward to seeing you in a wedding dress though.
Totally agree 😊
My husband and I got engaged in April and got married in August. We decided on a backyard wedding with only 22 people including ourselves. Many thought I was pregnant and had choice words about how we chose to have our wedding. However, we’ve been married over a year now and living life. We’re actually about to make a big move too!! Do what makes you happy and what works for you!! Don’t let pressure force you into doing something you didn’t want.
Really refreshing to see a UA-cam influencer not making a super expensive and flamboyant wedding :)
So, you might as well do what you want."
Thank you Taylor for these words.
OMG THE HIGH PONYTAIL!!!! You are so rocking it
“Cozy, warm and cute” that’s wonderful! Congratulations!
Sameee 😭
Aww, me too ><
I remember how i always waiting for her to upload vid (because she didnt upload much regularly like now) and seeing she change from that lolita girl to a mature version of Taylor. Wow. How time flies..
@@heleecopter haha yes apart from the family feeling it's also like growing together in making life choices :)
@@r.m.l.5487 Agree :)
I thought elope meant running away with someone to get married
It kind off does, tho.
Considering they were thinking of having a big wedding in Canada, I'd say they eloped.
Same lol. I thought it was running away to get married when your family does not approve or marrying in secret idk. But I can understand what she means by it
I think the “original” definition means that but in modern days some people use it as a way of saying to get married without a formal ceremony
No. Eloped means not having a traditional ceremony and just spontaneously tying the knot. Which they did. 🙄
Really didn't see this coming so quick! But sincerely congratulations! Wish you guys the best married life!!!☺️☺️👏🏻
Good morning newly weds! I’m living for this journey!! And that toast looks yummy ❤️
I agree with this style of wedding. I've never been one to dream of an elaborate wedding like most to begin with so this makes more sense to me.
Congratulations again! 😘😘
PS: I am super excited to see vlogmas!!!!!!
You have really come into your own this year Taylor. I think a different and younger Taylor wouldn’t have considered her own happiness over what others wanted from her, and I’m so happy you’ve grown to embrace this. I wish you the best of luck and can’t wait to see you flourish 💕💕💕
my mum and dad did a similar thing. They just did the legal part without the ceremony. my mum even did it in a t shirt and jeans!
dating for 5 years that's a long term commitment the elopement was quick and stress free. managing a wedding takes a long time and can be stressful there's nothing wrong with eloping
And amen. If you’re forever, there’s no time limit on ANYTHING. It’s just your two unique journey!!! 🤗❤️ whatever makes you happy as a couple, bless!
And it worked out perfectly, right?
That's my dream
bananaCake yeah and now we have a newborn ❤️
Also didn’t know I used heck two times, that bothers me. Sorry for the mom brain 😅
You both are so smart! Save the money - a lavish wedding is not cheap. Happy for you both.
You don't have to do a wedding ceremony but you can do a renewing of vows ceremony on an anniversary! If you guys want to write your own vows that fun to do on an anniversary, especially because you had to read the cards 😊
I’m honestly just so obsessed with the fact Rosie gets to go everywhere with you, and just follows you around!!
The important thing is that you married someone you love. 🙂
The wedding/reception can be such a headache and a unnecessary show.
Yayyyyy.... Vlogmas!!! I wasn't sure if you were going to do it this year since you have been so busy. I'm so excited... And I just can't hide it. 😆
Lol..... is that last part from a song? Can't think of the name but I was singing it as I read it. Happy Thanksgiving!
Yep it's from the song "I'm so Excited" from The Pointer Sister. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. 😉
@@amberwebb975 ok, I knew it was but thank you for sharing the name of who sang it. Sure brings back memories! And thank you for answering!🐙🐙🐙
I had to do the exact same thing with my Swedish husband almost two years ago. No regrets. :)
You go girl. Big weddings are becoming passé. YOUR life is what matters. Go forth and do whatever your hearts desire.
I think a lot of people just assume people elope because they are pregnant because they think
everyone wants a big wedding and the whole shebang. But it is nice to have a cheap no fuss start to your marriage and you can always have bigger ceremony later if you want. But Congratulations! Much happiness and success in you marriage!
Congrats! I've never heard Tom sound so happy lol!
I loved you're eloping video, because it shows how beautifully planned/ simple an elopement can be. In the not so distant future I can see more elopement ceremonies like yours becoming extremely common/ popular.
I’m so happy you and elbow san are doing great! You two are adorable I hope you guys have a very long and loving life together ❤️
I just love Natalie. I was on the fence about her in the beginning but she's pretty cool. She's got a great sense of humor and she's pretty chill. You two make a great team.
DON'T worry about the gossips.
I've been with you for a long time. And I'm so happy for you.
Your doing great.
Big hugs from Texas.
Congrats! We did the exact same thing and announced it over Facebook. We had been together for over 11 years so it was time and it was the best decision for us. Two years married and I have no regrets ❤️❤️
Elbow-san yelling babe and now baby is my favorite thing on the entire planet.I want it as a text tone haha
I love that you are not conforming to society and people’s opinions. Love that you do it for YOU! So happy for you guys.
The happiness in Nana's voice when you called, omg she is just so precious. Also, OMG I can't believe it's almost Vlogmas already, I am so excited!
Was watching your video from 2 years ago where you mention your "ideal wedding" in the title as this went up! :D
My husband and I just eloped the last week of October! Def, the best decision we ever made. Congratulations! I hope you have a happy healthy life together! 💍
Old married woman, Taylor
I so agree. Planning and having money for your life is better than a big party I feel. It's fun but investing in your life feels so much smarter. I'm so happy for you both!
Holy shit, the size of that rock is like real estate. You're basically wearing elbow-san's future on your finger 😱
Ikr
Jazmyn Razo come on. U can tell that guy is rich af
i love that you got married like this. who cares about what people think, you always do what you want to do regardless of how people think it’s supposed to be done and i love that
So happy to hear someone talk about this stuff the same way I think about it!!! I get it completely about doing things the way you want. Congratulations and I'm so happy for you both! 😁😁
I honestly wasn't surprised by your elopement! It's spontaneous and nontraditional, and what about your exciting life has been traditional! You live your life your own way and that's why I love to watch you! Congrats 🎉❤️
Is that an eternity ring as a wedding band? 😱😱😱 gorgeous!
My husband and I eloped back in January and we have no regrets about not having an actual wedding and are so happy. Congratulations you two!
Sweetness it's your guys life. You guys are in love. Both sides love both of you. And are very supportive. The wedding was beautiful. Short and sweet. You both looked great. Plus I'm sure once you guys go back to Canada there will be a huge celebration. Anyhoo congrats to the both of you ❤️ we all love you both. Enjoy the rest of your life together. Remember never go to bed angry. Communication is key. Xoxo
I’ve never been a huge fan of big weddings, so I completely support you on this one! Congratulations, and I hope you have a wonderful life together 💕
Hi Taylor congratulations ❤️ been following you when you were still staying in Japan haha love you ❤️
I did the exact same thing this year.
I can't wait for Vlogmas!!
Jeg gleder meg!! (Norwegian for eh... roughly: Looking forward to it!)
I’m so happy you guys . You made the best choice . Getting married is all about sharing your life with the person you love not just for one day but for always congratulations
I'm so happy for youu!❤ tons of happiness
My husband and I had a sunrise 🌄 wedding at 6am in the morning with 5 guests, had breakfast and off to Niagara Falls for our honeymoon ! I am so happy for the both of you! Congrats ❤️
My husband and I kinda eloped we did the paperwork after announcing like a month after then 6 months later had a smal small ceremony! My husband is korean ^^
I'm so happy for both of you! Marriage is way more than a fancy and perfectly planned wedding so I love that you decided to elope! Wish you nothing but the best 💗
I can't wait for vlogmas! ❤❤❤
You know what’s crazy? The last time I saw your videos was like three years ago when I started highschool and now that I’m about to graduate, I decide to look back at how you are doing. Man time has changed and you’re about to hit a million subs; keep it up :) glad to see that you’re committed 🙂
