This was really informative! I saved it for later if I ever decide to make a whole VGM album. Depends on whether manually paying for licenses ahead of actually selling the songs is worth it though lol so far I've only done that through Soundrop.
It's certainly more expensive upfront, so I recommend doing a lot of prep work, talk to some folks in VGM who have experience in making albums, make a release plan, or maybe even reach out to a label!
It doesn't. If someone is charging Pay What You Want or making a cover album free, they either created a deal with the copyright holder/songwriter or they aren't paying their royalties. I love using PWYW when I can for original music!

What about the performance license that bandcamp requires?
That's something you assume risk for, or disable streaming on Bandcamp for tracks to avoid the required performance (stream) licenses.
