    I've sold dozens of records and made close to $200 US. How many tens of thousands of hits would it take on Spotify to make that much money? Maybe hundreds of thousands? No way. I'll stick with Bandcamp.

    Did you mention that streaming works perfectly as well on Bandcamp? And the artist decides is streaming is free for the album or tracks, or only possible after a purchase of digital dl, CD, Vinyl etc.

    I'll rub it into people's faces when they tell my one more time artists make money from Spotify or Amazon Music. And who's using Qobuz??

    • @bartekpiwonskiofficial
      @bartekpiwonskiofficial  Рік тому +2

      No, they don't. They take a percentage of each sale you make but that's different from claiming a part of your royalties. In fact, you don't really get any royalties per se on Bandcamp. You sell a product, either digital or physical and you get a profit from that. They do Bandcamp Fridays which is when all your profits go to you. So if you are smart about it, you can ask your fans to buy your music only on those dates.

    • @bartekpiwonskiofficial
      @bartekpiwonskiofficial  Рік тому +1

      No, you don't need an ISRC code to upload your songs to Bandcamp. On Bandcamp you don't get paid for streaming though. You get paid for downloads and purchases of physical releases and merch. You can set it up so it allows people to listen to your tracks before they download.

  • @NonsensicalReality

    Can't you also just upload your music straight to spotify for free with an artist account rather than getting it out on all the other alternatives? I've been thinking about doing that to start off alongside a bandcamp account and then maybe later I'll try the bigger distribution to see if I can get more exposure that way.

    • @bartekpiwonskiofficial
      @bartekpiwonskiofficial  10 місяців тому +1

      You cannot upload directly to Spotify as a person. You have to go through a music distributor, this is the business model they have in place. Spotify for Artists account allows you to do certain things such as applying to be featured on a Spotify editorial playlist or to update your Spotify page but it doesn't allow you to upload your music. I'm not sure if the big record companies can upload directly. Perhaps they can but I don't think this is the case for small, independent labels.

    • @bartekpiwonskiofficial
      @bartekpiwonskiofficial  Рік тому +2

      That's a fair point even though some artists do make money from streaming. Of course you need to be at quite a high level.

      @@bartekpiwonskiofficial Exactly, only top artists. If you're not a top artist these platforms don't even know you're there, you are invisible to them, they don't promote you even if you're a subscriber to their premium service, you have to do all the marketing yourself. Top artists don't even need the money they get from these streaming platforms, for them it's just a welcoming bonus and not a life-saving income because they get a lot more from other sources, live shows, collaborating with other big artists and big companies, they have their own labels selling their stuff, disputing and making sure all their royalties are correct (even though they only get about 15% royalty payments from streaming platforms). Anyone else who is not a top artist and independent gains next to nothing and can't even control if what they are being paid is correctly calculated (you have no idea if the streaming platform is bullshitting your play count) all the while you're actually helping these platforms get more rich by agreeing to spread all advertisement on your tracks.
