Hey Scott, I've been trying to find an answer to my question but watched tons of tutorials and read tons of guides and nobody really knows for sure. Here I go: how should I pick genres and subgenres for my artist and albums if I wanna be featureed in the Discover section? I know picking subgenres of my main genre should be a must, but what if I make an equal blend of electronica, ambient and soundtrack? I mean they are all main genres :( Can I pick alternative main genres as subgenres? Can I pick subgenres that aren't from my main genre? Hope you can send me some light

@@DrKoulOfficial welp I guess the people who were gonna listen to your music on bandcamp right just when you published it there, they weren t going to stream your music on other platforms that much anyway :)) so I d say go for it

@@argomars6493 CDBaby has worked fine for me. I like it because its a one-time payment to get your project to the streaming platforms. You pay $35 once and your album is up forever. Distrokid is an annual fee where if you don't pay after the first time, your release becomes unavailable. There are drawbacks to CDBaby vs other distributors but its not fair to call it a scam.

My problem with Bandcamp is they give people the whole song to play and do not allow snippets! My setting is currently allowing people 3 free full plays of every song. I can not find out how to change this to 1 free play. There are sites out there where you can put bandcamp links in and take the audio like there are with soundcloud, UA-cam and other sites. Why Bandcamp don't allow snippets is beyond me.

@@OtherRecordLabels I did. They said sorry but that's how it is. I finally found the free play setting and 3 is the lowest you can set it to.
True, I think that's the thing that annoys me the most. The music can be stolen too easily. I wouldn't even mind putting one minute of the track. Or Actually chose the duration of the snippet for each song. Something more tailored.
@@JoeFellaga yeah, it must be simple to do. That's what cdbaby do, they allow you to choose 20 seconds of any track. The best thing about Bandcamp is you get paid as soon as someone buys! I'm looking for another app that does both that then I will move everything!

I didn't know about submitting to editorial. Every time I've released something it appears in the new and notable section for my niche subgenre, I thought it was just an algorithm that decides what to put there. It is actually chosen by people? Why is my stuff appearing there even though I've never submitted?
I just got on bandcamp again. Its kinda alot to take in.

Bandcamp does not offer the ability to upload your ISRC Codes when uploading your files.

Yep.
IT's crap that they take 15% of your profits even if you pay $20-50/month as a label. $240-600/year just for the right to sell your music and make 85% profit, not including transaction costs.
I think I agree with you. Great point. For example, with Squarespace e-commerce package, at their highest paying level, they take 0% of sales. So yah, I think that should be reduced to 1-5% for paid memberships.
What escapes most people is that the selling of the “dream” is more profitable than realizing the dream itself. As long as you believe in the dream, you are easy prey to labels, etc. Maintaining the dream is also expensive because who is going to keep track with marketing your material and maintaining a myriad of social media sites and still have a day-job?
I just make music for fun on there. Don't really care about money
PayHip only takes 5% + transaction fees, whereas Bandcamp takes 15% + transaction fees. Spotify pays for streams, whereas Bandcamp does not pay for streams.
Bandcamp sucks.
