    Wilson gives up when House says the pills allow him to solve medical challenges freely, and Wilson knows that’s one of the few joys House has left, so he drops it.

    One of the greatest lines from the show. You can really tell he loves the pills more than his friends and colleagues. And you can tell he’s using to cope with everything in his life. Not just the leg pain.

      @@SCYN0 Love? I hate them with a passion, I'm a shell of my former shell and besides the occasion it gets so bad I need to be put on a morphin drop ,I don't get high from the medication either. If I had the oppertunity to smoke a joint or take some gummies before going to bed and be fine for an entire day. I'd switch in a heartbeat, does a better job and none of the damage. As it stands the lovely lawmakers decides that its better for me to be on a medication that is highly addictive and less helpful over time. But without it I'd just be in bed screaming to be released an be complete waste of space as opposed to a 80% waste of space.

      The difference between me taking my painkillers (morphine based) and not taking them, is the amount of work I get done. Without them, I get maybe a solid hour a day, two if I'm lucky. With them, I get a good 6 hours of actual work done without having to sit down and let my back and knee recharge. And god, lets not talk about the mood I'm in when I'm in pain, people can actually be around me after I got my painkillers compared to before.
      House is a fitting example of addiction yeah, but I can promise you, the pain he's in, which is greater than mine, has a lot to do with his love for those pills. Cause you don't smash your hand apart with a pestle cause you're withdrawing, you do it cause it takes the pain away from the chronic spot. Cause that's what I did before I got my meds, you HURT yourself somewhere else, to escape it.

    At one point Wilson asked, "Nothing's the pills? They haven't done a thing to you?"
    And House says: "They let me do my job. And they take away my pain..."
    I don't think House is talking about the physical pain. I think he's talking about his psychological pain. About losing Stacy and his leg. About the misanthropy and the loneliness.

      It's definitely inferred. The entire conversation is a double entendre. It's the only way House ever honestly is able to admit, not just to Wilson but himself, his inner-demons and fears. As much as House tries to distance and portray a disconnect from any and everybody of his genuine-self, he actually quite often voluntarily discloses glimpses of his true-nature; Wilson understands this the most which is why their relationship is so unique.
      Baby steps, House. Baby steps. :P

    I’ve been addicted to opioids for over a decade now. I’m what you might call a functioning addict, like House - I pay my bills, I make my meals; I function. But it has ruined many aspects of my life - including my relationship with the girl I loved. I changed and now I’m alone. The only company is the opioids. On that note - I’m off to take away my pain.

I'm trying to kick the habit now that my opiate tolerance is at the stage where I'm incapable of achieving a pleasant high, let alone getting to the stage of nodding out. It's not the substance that makes us addicts it's the behaviors. Some people can drink alcohol and be just fine. Others drink and can't stop even when they want to. 1 is too much but 1,000 is never enough.
    I'm 10 years clean this month. Sometimes I lay in my room and just cry and cry because of the pain I am in. And I know that there is a little white pill that could make it all go away, but realizing that I can never take an opiate ever again. It's hell sometimes. I'd like to say it's worth it, but i question that on the daily.

    What I really found facinating about this scene that, is House being cynical or accepting reality, he is said that "yes, I'm an addict, and I'm better off as an addict" and the thing he is admitting it while completely lucid, has anyone ever met someone that said "yes, I'm a drunk, and I'm better off as a drunk" while they know exactly what they are saying, many addicts won't, for the life of them, admit it, maybe they get to a point where they don't care and will openly say it to anyone, at that point they most be so deep into adiction it becomes part of who they are, that's scary.

  • @pjincho

    One of few things that are inaccurate about this show is House’s drug of choice: vicadin.
    Vicadin is a mixture of acetaminophen and hydrocodone. If used habitually to manage pain, house would be ingesting copious amounts of Tylenol, which is toxic to the liver.
    I feel like, if anything, House would be taking oxycodone, or OxyContin... especially if methadone (which is as strong if not stronger than hydrocodone,) is necessary to treat his addiction.
    Dr’s... am I right on this?

      Not all the time. I was on pills for years, and when a new doc I went to after mine retired knocked me down from percocets to regular hydrocone/ibuprofen, I was taking 4 or 5 of those a day because they were so weak compared to what I had. I also drank quite a bit in my youth, but I have no issues. I think you have to take over 1000mil a day or something before you have real problems. Maybe 2000. So I'd say since House pops them so regularly the amount in what he took was only 325mil. Idk. That's just my take.

    • @Magos_Fritz
      @Magos_Fritz 4 роки тому +7

      It appears that house generally pops about 2 or 3 vicodin at a time every once in a while. I'm guessing he probably takes about 9-12 pills per day. If he's prescribed the vicodin that are cut with the 250mg acetaminophen, it would add up to 2.25 grams per day while the 500mg types would add up to 4.5 grams. Both amounts are not enough to kill a healthy adult but I can't answer for the damage that ingesting those amounts daily would cause in the long run but I'm in agreement with you that uncut opiate medication for chronic use while leading to inevitable addiction is better than destroying one's liver.

      @@SAMEntalhealth as someone who's been on kratom for years now and was using far harder opioids prior to that, it's not a miracle drug and neither is suboxone. Kratom has many negative side effects comparable to any other opioid although to a lesser extent obviously. Anything that hits those receptors is gonna have lots of negatives and withdrawals over time there is no way around it you have to pay the piper eventually, gabapentinoids and Muscle relaxers like Soma help with pain as well. Although not nearly like opioids do and those have hardcore negatives as well, I take kratom everyday now no more hard Opiates, but there is also grams of phenibut, a lot of beer, and 2 different Muscle relaxers being thrown in on a daily basis. Shit makes you feel like a zombie but living in constant pain and anxiety is much worse imo, weed does not help with my pain or anxiety that much it actually makes me feel more aware of it but I still smoke grams out of the bong daily because it's been a ritual since I was very young.

    He knows that the pills are bad and that he should stop and look for ways to make it better, but if he stops and he isn't as good as a doctor anymore, what does he have left! it's like you can buy a lottery ticket with the last 3$ that you have and maybe win but if you lose you have nothing left! He is 2 scared to let go of the one thing that he knows is making him function even if it could make him a better doctor or person!

    • @CrazyMFz
      @CrazyMFz 5 років тому +1

      It's not that the pills actually enhance his expertise as a doctor; they're an incontestably a scapegoat House uses to procrastinate dealing with his deeper, true issues. Of course, he's become addicted and simply stopping will have huge ramifications medically, but his gift wouldn't be tarnished. He just uses them to escape his current reality, and his leg/pain is a legitimate enough excuse that he basically can do so relatively 'forever'.
      Wilson states "I was there,... you've changed. You're miserable and you're afraid to face yourself!". My opinion and interpretation of this seems to conclusively prove my above summary.
