@@petermueller162 you say they are wrong but give nothing. Explain why? 🤔 You can't have a normal functional life taking methadone. Hence the alcohol consumption scene , the explanation of the right dosages ect.....it's not safe.
Methadone would have been ideal for House, it's not anything like the show makes it look like. It really demonstrates how aged the show is. It was a good ep to flesh out the character but adds onto the stigma of OUD treatment... and it can cause resp depression and qtc prolongation but not it's not dangerous as the show makes it out to be. We just keep a close eye on qtc and can possibly use other qtc prolonging meds, although we try to avoid it in general.
Because alcohol is a depressant. It slows down brain function and can limit communication between the brain and the central nervous system, which can lead to respiratory distress (among many other deadly risks). House was already taking Methadone before he drank, it would be incredibly dangerous for him to drink alcohol on top of it. This is because Methadone is classified as an opiate, and just like alcohol, opiates can suppress the central nervous system and cause him to stop breathing. (Which, we saw it already do.) If he drinks something that can cause him to stop breathing, while being on a medication that has already made him stop breathing once, there is a huge risk that it will kill him.
@kb4903 It’s not safe, but most do combine depressants with opioids. It’s pretty common with recreational opioid users. A Vicodin (5mg hydrocodone) or two and a few beers, you’ll *probably* be fine.
@@kb4903 Many junkies drink booze with heroin, but it's very dangerous and will never be recommended by a licensed medical professional. Doesn't matter if it's beer or bourbon. Any alcohol and any opiate can do it.
@@kb4903It's never recommended that you mix opioids and alcohol. A very very small amount of both might be fine but it's a really stupid chance to take

Methadone is a pretty strong drug, I’ve only taken it once and felt it for like two days. I also have chronic pain and I’d definitely take it long-term if that was an option.
as someone whith a parent addicted to methadone, they really played it very lightly how harmful this stuff can be. Its one of the worst drugs there is.
I'm very sorry about that, but they've actually portrayed methadone very strangely here. With no intended disrespect to your parent, methadone and its cousin buprenorphine (Suboxone), are incredibly valuable tools for countless people with OUD to help better their lives and put themselves back on the right track. House's vicodin use should be more concerning. In fact, methadone is prescribed specifically to help a patient quit something like vicodin (aka hydrocodone). In the majority of cases, when taken as prescribed and with medical supervision, it's used as a strict regimen to get oneself clean and eventually drug-free. Some users do use the medication indefinitely, but it's always a much better alternative than illicit narcotics. Of course, that can't be said for every patient or user. Mileage will always vary between individuals. But your own experiences aside, as valid as they are, it is a disservice to countless people from many walks of life to call the medication one of the worst there are.
a word to the wise, or whoever writes the descriptions on these videos: there is definitely no *a* in definitely, which is how you end up with autocorrect writing "there's *defiantly* something wrong."
The histrionic way they are portraying methodone is laughable. It is nowhere near as dangerous as they are trying to paint it in this episode. Drinking on it will not kill you, unless your body isnt used to opiates, which 99.9% of those taking it, are. The vast majority of those who are on methodone due to opioid dependency/addiction, are also on a myriad of other depressants. The only drug mixture that is remotely as dangerous as they are trying to posit, is benzos mixed with any opioid, but specifically methadone. Also, its pain killing affects are nowhere near other opioids. Its why its not used much at all, for pain management. The medical misinformation surrounding methodone in this episode, is insidious and insane. The only reason its still used for opioid addiction, is because the Gov has a complete monopoly over its use, and makes a ton of money off of it. It is not affective at all, with treating opioid dependency/addiction.
It’s a treatment in terms of keeping you dependent on opioids. Same deal with Suboxone. In fact, withdrawal from either one of those lasts longer than heroin. The whole point of substituting one opioid for another is to allow people to be productive members of society so then we can tax them.
Also, the withdrawals from methadone are 100x worse than vicodin, which is one of the weakest pain killers, so it kind of defeats the purpose. Methadone withdrawal is even worse than heroin withdrawals from what I've heard.
Honest question... House limps because a bunch of his leg muscle is missing. But why is he in pain? (I did see the "Three stories" episode, but don't fully understand it.)
I don't know much about medicine, but I think he got some sort of nerve damage? if I remember correctly, they mentioned his leg "loosing function", in some earlier episodes. also it's heavily implied that his pain is, at least partially, psychological
Nerve damage. Amputation would 100% fix all of the pain but before his accident he was an avid golfer and a jogger and the idea of him not having his leg really upset him. The irony is that with his leg he can't do either, but if he just got the amputation and a good prosthetic, he could do both again.
I dont remember exactly but he has a blood clot in his leg and it screwed up his leg due to misdiagnosis. Though i dont know if his story on the first episode is true or not.
@@NutSaxsthe story in the first episode is exactly what you said lol. he had a blood clot (infarction) in his thigh, but because his misdiagnosis, the doctors “treating” him ended up wasting a ton of time which resulted in his muscle dying
@@notkiersten24 I believe they also explained that House had 3 options for his leg. -Removing the clot and restoring the blood flow, which risked him dying of complications -Amputation, which was the safest -Removing the "dead" muscle whilst keeping the rest of the leg. Stacy then conspired with Cuddy to go behind his back whilst he was unconcious and peformed surgery on him anyways, which is why he's in chronic pain

I have never seen house and I have been watching the show and I love it so much. I recently seen this episode especially and it was great. God bless Hugh Laurie☦️ such a great guy and a wonderful actor.
Ngl for me Olivia Wilde is a bombshell even now that she’s in her 40’s she’s still attractive not to mention has a gorgeous eye color!
She’s 40 not 80 ffs
It’s interesting that methadone/suboxone is so praised in the recovery world and in the show they make it seem so horrible 😢 for anyone on methadone/suboxone- it’s good for you, it’s good for you to be off whatever you got off of. I am proud of you ❤
For detox ONLY!
Some people use it recreationally as an alternative to gear, so it isn’t all flowers and daisies really.
@Americanpatriot-zo2tk many addicts are on methadone for years especially if they used for years...the opiods change your brain chemistry its more than just a few weeks of detox you don't start feeling normal for at least 2 years.... some people never feel normal again...if it helps these people live their life and keeps them from relapsing then YES it's good for them and they should utilize it under a doctor's care for as long as they need it....even if that's the rest of their life.
@@Eire-327 if you are on a stable dose meaning you take the same dose everyday....you don't get high its not fun ....most methadone clinics you have to dose DAILY in front of them so it's kinda hard to not be on a stable dose when in methadone treatment....methadone is far more controlled than suboxen
he shaved
Mannnn watching this after some bad pain days was too heavy😮💨
I got the best timing for an ad break. It was the second Wilson said “you idiot!” As house is puking
In my family both mom and dad have degenerative spine disease, i have scoliosis, honestly opiates are whats kept me walking longer than anything else. . Otherwise i feel like my legs almost been twisted off.
more than fair enough. don't let anyone shame you for taking them. we never hear about the millions who's lives have been saved with this class of drugs
@@14reasons58 I can relate when he says he's chosen to live with out pain. They noted positive changes in his behavior, was not as combative, shaved etc. It should be up to the person to chose the quality of life over the quantity.
Same here. .I refused to take them for years because I was terrified of getting addicted. So, was on arm crutches for years because of a spine that is shot. When my shoulders started to deteriorate, I went on an Opiate. I have never been " High" from them, I have only gotten pain relief. I still have a lot of pain, but I can actually function enough to take care of myself. I walk every day now. When the pain gets to be too .uch, and it's not time for my meds, I use other means of some relief. Yoga has helped a lot, too.
@@reneet5858 othe NSAIDs absolutely do not work for me so I take Kratom and it allows me to function. They were leary of giving me narcotics in my youth so I had to get them thru other means. Beside the fsmily history and my scoliosis I've had 2 amputations and reattachments blown shoulders and been told my hands have been broken 100s od times and this was by the time I was 23. I work as a butcher and sometimes you will be putting a 60lbs slab of frozen meat on a safe it fall over break mt hand and I just keep working, never went to the doctor. I'm close to 50 now.
Hugh Laurie is beyond House.
And methadone is not inherently inappropriate for multiple types of pain, but it does require appropriate dosing and close observation by a trained and experienced pain specialist.
It's much safer than taking handfuls of Vicodin which will kill your liver.
Such a great show.
I like to think that Dr. House himself is the one uploading videos on this channel
We are who we are. Lotteries are stupid.
Why are all the comments bot messages?

OK sooo.... I had my fix of House and can face the day.
I can't get over the purple nipple thing😂😂😂😂😂😂
"if he buys a new shoes should we let him smoke crack?" i dont see the problem in that :D
This show gets incredibly sad after a certain point. I forgot when he started hallucinating....
I relate to the ending so very much
This is a completely unfair portrayal of methadone.
are you on it
Sounds like someone with an accurate understanding of MOUDs. I was going to make a similar comment. Edit: For clarity, shenFen is wrong, I support daria's comment.
@@shenFen-jf2jk I am, and yes, This is horrible representation of Methadone treatment.
I'm on 90 mg and I don't have any of these issues and neither does my husband. We've been on methadone for nearly 9 years, and it saved our lives. I'm on 90mg, he's on 60mg, and we're both doing great. It's Also very useful in my chronic pain because I broke my back in 2003 in a car accident and have been in insufferable pain ever since. Now, I can walk, I play with my dogs, walk my dogs, drive to the store, walk around at the store, all without my braces or walker. I even go to the gym now, which is something I could have never done years ago considering I could barely stand for 10 minutes without needing to sit down from the pain in my back and legs. I'm also a licensed recovery specialist and am working towards becoming a Peer Specialist until I'm able to complete my bachelor's to become a substance abuse counselor.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk drive safe
@@petermueller162 you say they are wrong but give nothing.
Explain why? 🤔
You can't have a normal functional life taking methadone.
Hence the alcohol consumption scene , the explanation of the right dosages ect.....it's not safe.
@@petermueller162 ShenFen didn't even say anything. Just asked a question.
"This is the only me you get."
Who needs a defibulator when you can do purple nurples??
Why can’t he drink the Bourbon?
@@Roonifer do junkies don’t drink booze with heroin? Or is beer ok?
@kb4903 It’s not safe, but most do combine depressants with opioids. It’s pretty common with recreational opioid users. A Vicodin (5mg hydrocodone) or two and a few beers, you’ll *probably* be fine.
@@kb4903 Many junkies drink booze with heroin, but it's very dangerous and will never be recommended by a licensed medical professional. Doesn't matter if it's beer or bourbon. Any alcohol and any opiate can do it.
@@kb4903It's never recommended that you mix opioids and alcohol. A very very small amount of both might be fine but it's a really stupid chance to take
I would have stopped carrying about House years ago
a cripple throws away his cane that helped him walk all of his life, the second he can walk.
10 of the 50+ years of his life at the time, and this wasn't the first time. Also happened after his ketamine induced coma at the end of season 2.
no one using a cane is going to love it the second they dont need it
I had knee surgery about 15 years ago and used a cane for a couple of weeks. I still have that cane just in case I need it. When I get old, I want to get a top hat and monocle so I can look like the Monopoly man.
Probably due to the lack of rad flames on it, I suspect...

In the end, House needed the high more than he needed to be out of pain.
Methadone is a pretty strong drug, I’ve only taken it once and felt it for like two days. I also have chronic pain and I’d definitely take it long-term if that was an option.
Never seen green methadone before and I've been on it many years
I like how like House, his team also assumes zebras as the first thing
The bulimia joke LOL
as someone whith a parent addicted to methadone, they really played it very lightly how harmful this stuff can be.
0:25 do doctors actually sit in a room and talk to each other this way?
3:33 why does house look perfect here❤
There's no ounce of this show that this channel hasn't posted in at least 3 different videos
House's comments are always startling, and can lead to confusing dreams.
House is my favorite drama queen. He was so extra about the methadone, and for what?

We just need to get a message through. Proceeds to turn his nipples like there's no tomorrow 3:03 💀
Who needs immediate chest compressions when you have the nipple cripple 😂😂
Going on methadone for vicodin is like using cocaine to get off coffee.
Kumar became a doctor after all?
Just love seeing popular culture still vilinizing methadone, and how many beer commercials ran during this episode I wonder?
I knew someone who tried to detox off of methadone, it took 8 months.
THANK YOU THANK YOU you said everything I was thinking. The reality of opioid use is portrayed in such a ridiculous and comical way in tv and movies.
Also, the withdrawals from methadone are 100x worse than vicodin, which is one of the weakest pain killers, so it kind of defeats the purpose. Methadone withdrawal is even worse than heroin withdrawals from what I've heard.
@@BigMacOrange it's a tv show guys. what's next, gonna whine that batman's grappling hook wouldn't hold his 250 lb body?
No, he's not.
-Removing the clot and restoring the blood flow, which risked him dying of complications
-Amputation, which was the safest
-Removing the "dead" muscle whilst keeping the rest of the leg.
House picked to remove the clot and bear through the pain waiting for the chance that his leg might recover. Stacy then conspired with Cuddy to go behind his back whilst he was unconcious and peformed surgery on him anyways, which is why he's in chronic pain
*_I'm not interested in "good"._*
