    I love the logical layout of the Airbus glass cockpit and lights out-all clear overhead panel. Very logical yet elegant at the same time.

    This is by far the best takeoff vid I have seen yet. I keep coming back to this one. It has the perfect angle, highest quality, best audio, and the audible radio traffic really adds to it. The fixed camera doesn't even vibrate during takeoff. I just wish it was a bit longer after takeoff.

      @@roberthenderson4466 I have and I am terrible, one tutor told me I'm hopeless. Its been a curse since childhood. My math brain is that of a 10 year old. So theres no hope for me in aviation. If you ask me to mentally calculate:
      "Its 14.15H. You are at 38,000 ft and need to be at 12,000ft in 216nm to cross a fix at 15.20H. When will you start the descent?"
      ... I will go into a state of panic and just freeze. Even though i know it is simple trigonometry/mental math. But I cannot answer.
      My job is just stocking shelves now but I'm grateful for income. These pilot vids are nice escapism!

    The take off is; ''point it and punch it.''
    It's the landing that can be very tricky.
    These aircraft have systems that make sure that it's safe.

    The aircraft is steered with rudder pedals. That is also where the brakes are located. Airbus uses joysticks in place of control yokes. The Captains is on the left, the First Officer is on the right.

    no, I believe it's because they can't see outside clearly when the cockpit lights are on because the cockpit windscreen would reflect the light and all that the pilots would see is their own reflection.
    If you have noticed, when the cabin lights are fully on, you can't make out what's outside even when you are sitting near the window, unless you glue your face to the window glass.

    On the A320 family, the nose and runway lights get turned off after gear up, but the lights are automatically turned off upon gear retraction. The same for all airplanes with nose lights installed. The flow is, gear up, spoilers disarmed and then lights. Landing lights get finally turned off when reaching 10,000 feet, and this is a worldwide standard. watch the radar returns on the capt ND of storms ahead. An oddity of this take off is that it was a flaps 2, and packs off take off. Excellent!

    When you're talking about safety records, then I guess you're right. More birds in the sky for a longer amount of time does increase the odds..
    Anyway, aviation has come a long way. Airlines and manufacturers have learnt valuable lessons from the accidents that happened. With so many airplanes in the air, it's amazing how safe air travel is compared to other means of travel.

  • @VR471
    @VR471 11 років тому

    If you look at the accidents where the Airbus design played a part, those are the story of the 80s and 90s.
    Aviation has come a long way. Even Boeing had a lot of issues with their design(remember the 737 rudder issues?). But valuable lessons have been learnt from previous fatal disasters, which has led to flying becoming much safer.

    If u mean the button which both pilots press on their sides, its a annunciator panel which indicates faults of :flt control,apu,doors, fuel, irs, apu......and before take off pilots must to recall to check if everything looks ok.

    Some of the factors that yield V1 are the weight of the aircraft, the length of the runway as well as the condition of the runway, whether it is dry or wet. In case of a wet runway V1 is usually a lower speed because rain on the runway decreases the braking performance of the aircraft.

  • @Stiganovski

    Hi, some airports will require you to maintain the taxi lights until gearup depending on their own safety regs. This came about after a spate of near misses many years ago. I'm Australia and it is not as common as in some Euro and US airports but it does happen.
    Hope this makes sense :)

    Well, the computer is so advanced. If you want to, go ahead pick one up I bet they're somewhere around 500,000 dollars. And just so you know the autopilot can be turned off. A good example is in 2009, when flight 1549 landed in the Hudson. This was an Airbus A320, the autopilot was disabled thus making Captain Sullenberger in control of the plane. Although the computer is recomended it can be turned off... The team developing the software, probably has a pretty good team of bug checkers.

    @richygambs321 that's true, in this phase of the takeoff the pilots follow the FD's instructions, the FD tries to alter the pitch angle so that the aircraft maintains V2+10 until acceleration altitude is reached, at acceleration altitude, the FD will lower the pitch, causing the plane to accelerate (hence the name ;)) to 250kts unless high speed is approved. If I got something wrong, correct me please :D

    1)Boeing pilots don't get to know the power levels just by "one glance at the thrust levers". There's something called EICAS(Engine-Indicating and Crew Alerting System). Airbus has it too.
    2)Besides, there's another word you might not have heard of.. TRAINING.

  • @VR471
    @VR471 11 років тому

    You seem to forget that the pilots, the two co-pilots, were the one who made the mistakes, not the computers. The airbus computers had NO ROLE to play in the crash. It wasn't because the computers didn't give them full control, it was because one co-pilot had the urge to pull the stick up and keep it there the whole time.
    If that is a design flaw, then I'm the President of the United States.
    You also forget that the 787 and 777 also use the same technology.

    V1 is the maximum speed at which a rejected takeoff can be initiated. Once the airplane is faster than V1 it must takeoff, even in case of an emergency because it's too fast to be stopped without overrunning the end of the runway.

    @xTechno2010 Usually at about 1000'AGL they will throttle back to climb thrust and reduce pitch to 10°, then they raise flaps and accelerate untill they are about 2500'AGL and raise slats as far as I know.

  • @davidjjdj
    @davidjjdj 11 років тому

    Okay, so the thrust moving back doesn't matter either. They are two totally different systems, the Boeing auto thrust uses the throttles as a human does, the Airbus controls the engine automatically, you can take the engine out of auto throttle any time you want in either...

    Well, a more pressing question is how do you find the runway to take-off? You can't use the ol' surefire way of guessing when your taking off. I suppose you could drive around and use the longest stretch of asphalt that you run into. (I still cannot believe someone ask such a ridiculous question. Your answer was spot on mate)

But I love the modern Airbus cockpit style especially at night. In my opinion it is much better than Boeings design. Airbus has the most beautiful glass cockpit available on the market today.

    You mention 11/29(the latter) being the default runway. that's odd because 02/20 is much longer and is the primary runway of CHC,

    turbofan jet engines take a few seconds to spool up during which only a fraction of the set power is generated. They should have made a more precise turn onto Rwy however, at this point, it is better to set take-off power while correcting line up. The reason is, you dont want to reduce/waste the length of runway available for take off and aborted rollout by aligning, stopping and then spooling on the roll as this will eat up precious runway in the event of an emergency.

    My flight from Melbourne to Christchurch on an Airbus 320 wasn't on a day where "conditions are fine and predictable". Mel weather is unpredictable and the landing in Christchurch was anything but routine. Crosswinds, extremely low visibility, heavy turbulence and rain etc.. Those aren't fine conditions for flying.

    I hope I understood your question right. I´am not sure about. I think that airlines are trying to keep up the competition between Airbus and Boeing to keep the prices as low as possible and the technology as modern as possible. That´s why Lufthansa for example buys A 380 and the 747-8 at the same time. Normally the 747-8 should not be competitive to the A 380. But creating a monopole of one manufacturer is not in the interest of airlines.
