Great & fantastic video of one of my 3 favorite steam locomotives, the Norfolk & Western J class 4-8-4 number 611. My other 2 favorite steam locomotives are the Southern Pacific Lima built GS-4 which is also a 4-8-4 number 4449 that pulled the American Freedon train in 1975 & 1976 and is now in its Daylight colors. My third favorite steam locomotive is the Southern Pacific AC-12 Cab forward 4-8-8-2 number 4294 that was built by Baldwin locomotive works and is on display at the California Railroad Museum in Sacramento, CA
It is April 10, 2017, one year to the day since your video, and I am watching this excellent video of the 611 with it's awesome steam whistle (one of the best!). I recently bought an HO scale model of this locomotive and I have ordered the extra auxiliary water tender as well, all from Broadway Limited. Thanks for posting.
We ( wife and I ) were on the Spencer to Lynchburg run Saturday, April 9, 2016. The train left Spencer headed north and soon crossed the Yadkin River. In your video at 7:42 mark you show Sunday , April 10th, 2016 Spencer to Asheville. At your 10:19 mark you show Crossing the Yadkin River. That is NOT the Yadkin, it is the Catawba River between Statesville and the Hickory/Conover area.
i know they needed the diesel engines for Pos Train control. But they can never come close to the living breathing actions of a steamer. The queen is more than a machine, she is ALIVE
Very nice video, I really enjoyed it ! Would it be possible to edit the video, bringing the vid and and sound in sync with each other - or is it my tube end that is at fault ? :-)
she is so so awesome !!
Good video

Behind 611 is Norfolk Southern Heritage Diesel 8099 and Southern FP7 6133.

Awesome video, stack sounds are super.
Wish there was a way to bring back a new generation of clean burning locomotives! They are living and breathing unlike diesel engines! Lovely video!
Fantastic video bro! Killer locations and amazing scenery, boy does 611 put on a show!

If only I still lived in Virginia. Or at least went there every summer. :(
Pan the camera with the engine.
