This is on my list of songs I can't sing (or listen to) because I get choked up and start crying, along with I Dreamed a Dream and Celtic Woman's rendition of Danny Boy (2005)
cast: “to love another person is to see the face of god…” me: *with a lump in my throat* i have it. i won’t cry this time. i won’t- cast: “… do you hear the people sing...” me: *uncontrollably sobbing* fuck.
Take my hand I'll lead you to salvation Take my love For love is everlasting And remember The truth that once was spoken To love another person is to see the face of god. Do you hear the people sing? Lost in the valley of the night It is the music of a people Who are climbing to the light For the wretched of the earth There is a flame that never dies Even the darkest night will end And the sun will rise. They will live again in freedom In the garden of the Lord We will walk behind the plowshare We will put away the sword The chain will be broken And all men will have their reward! Will you join in our crusade? Who will be strong and stand with me? Somewhere beyond the barricade Is there a world you long to see? Do you hear the people sing? Say, do you hear the distant drums? It is the future that we bring When tomorrow comes! Will you join in our crusade? Who will be strong and stand with me? Somewhere beyond the barricade Is there a world you long to see? Do you hear the people sing Say, do you hear the distant drums? It is the future that we bring When tomorrow comes! Tomorrow comes!
Here in Mexico the official title for this song in the musical was "Hoy el pueblo cantará" (Today the people will sing)
French Version: Fantine & Eponine: Take my hand, And come into his light. Take the love, Which shines when life is fading. Fantine, Eponine, & Valjean: And remember, The truths within your prayer, "Who loves another person Is most near to God on Earth." Company: For the will of the people, None can extinguish our voice, And so the song will rise forever, As it had so long before, We wish that our light, Penetrates the mask of night, To illuminate our land And to change our lives. The glorious day will come, When on its march towards the ideal, Mankind will progress from evil to good And from falsehoods to truth. A dream may yet die, But hope lives on forever! Will you join in our crusade, Of those with hopes for humanity? For every fallen barricade, One hundred more will rise again! For the will of the people, We hear the sound of distant drums, Announcing the future that they bring When tomorrow comes! Will you join in our crusade, Of those with hopes for humanity? For every fallen barricade, One hundred more will rise again! For the will of the people, We hear the sound of distant drums, Announcing the future that they bring When tomorrow comes! Ah! Tomorrow comes!
I like listening/reading things I already in a foreign language, because it's as close to hearing it the first time again, as it gets. I don't speak french, so thank you for sharing this and letting me relive this masterpiece again. Also, it's intresting to see, how different things get translated, and when I've read "For every fallen barricade, One hundred more will rise again!" i tought that this is so french.

I will never be able to hear this song without crying.

I love that Cosette and Marius can hear the singing too

There’s something heartwarming about ValJean nervously starting to sing at 1:37.
That barricade is such a memorable image!!

PERFEITO MEUS DEUS.
Meus olhos ficaram secos igual o deserto

Hörst du die Leute singen?
One of the best songs ever!!!
I sat bawling during this scene screaming at the TV asking why he had to die too
Ai meu coração !!! posso ver mil vezes, mil vezes as lágrimas !
French Version:
Fantine & Eponine: Take my hand,
And come into his light.
Take the love,
Which shines when life is fading.
Fantine, Eponine, & Valjean: And remember,
The truths within your prayer,
"Who loves another person
Is most near to God on Earth."

And so the song will rise forever,
As it had so long before,

The glorious day will come,
When on its march towards the ideal,
Mankind will progress from evil to good
And from falsehoods to truth.
A dream may yet die,
But hope lives on forever!
Will you join in our crusade,
Of those with hopes for humanity?
For every fallen barricade,
One hundred more will rise again!
For the will of the people,
We hear the sound of distant drums,
Announcing the future that they bring
When tomorrow comes!

My eyes are leaking
If I ever get something stuck in my eye I just listened to this song because I cry like a little bitch. I also get chills all over.
Chorei hoooorres. Mal sabia que viveríamos o MESMO . Pessoas sendo mortas por roubarem pra comer. Peste, desemprego, fome.
We're still waiting... it'll happen one day... it has to... maybe not in my lifetime... but there's hope still...
AMEN!
Lindo :)
Eu AMO ESTE Deus do céuuuuuuu
I cry everytime

One of the greatest endings to any film ever.
Do you hear the people sing? / Nǐ tīngdào yǒurén zài chànggē ma?
This is so relevant with Corona!
Yea except it’s like 6 million people instead of 30
nice… but that movie clip is not live; i can see a second delay between lips and song especially in the end
I can't help but wonder what Cosette say's after Valjean passes away
It looks like she was saying Papa before she couldn't stop crying.
She said papa please to go its to soon to soon to say goodbye
