@@brunolopes2205 So you don't make any contact with the palm rest? You're probably going to want to clean the surfaces at some point from hand oils and other dust.
The bit where he talks about the 4:3 aspect ratio reminds me of when my old school 'upgraded' from 4:3 monitors to 16:9 monitors, that were the exact same width, but shorter
If I'm going to have a standalone monitor, give me 16:9 or 21:9 and maybe a couple 16:9 in portrait to go with it. If it's on a laptop that the body is likely already going to be a bit taller than 16:9, why not fill the top and bottom bezel with screen instead? @@MrMopbucket Precisely. It's not 4:3, it is 3:2. If you scale those ratio's up just so you have an easier time comparing them, 4:3 is 12:9 and 3:2 is 12:8.
2:38 so options are bad? I like how they gave you an option between the Alcantara and the metal versions, especially if you keep a laptop for a longer period of time you might want the extra durability of the metal version.
Slavik Leskiv there’s 3 variants of the Surface Laptop 3 with metal, and 2 variants with alcantara. Are you seriously trying to complain about having the choice of having EITHER?
Ironically the metal version of the SL3 has issues since there is no soft bumper with the display, and if some hard particle falls on the palm rest, it will crack the display when you close it. Totally not an issue with the Alcantara model
Well, making the screen bigger by just increasing the size with the same pixels doesn't do anything for you. They removed the soft coating on the laptops because dirt and oil from hands would stain it causing them to look very dirty. This is less of a problem for black models.
I've been using the surface laptop 3 for a couple of months now and I am very happy with it. Using a USB dock versus the weird proprietary charging cable has been much better. The only thing I would change about it would be an additional USB and USB C port, an HDMI port and a Micro SD card reader.
Really appreciate how Microsoft actually made an effort to make their unrepairable laptop somewhat easy to work on. Have only really been seeing other devices going the other way over the past several years.
Alex, it's not a 4:3 screen, it's actually 3:2! And I wish productivity/business laptops would start to use this aspect ratio more often. Or at least 16:10. Gaming laptops with these aspect ratios don't make much sense, that's for sure. And I can even understand, why cheap ones only use 16:9 screens. Even though there are cheap tablets with 16:10 screens. But I'd love a ThinkPad with a 3:2 or 16:10 screen!
It depends on what surface (no pun intended) your machine is resting on when the cable is pulled out... I've seen them go flying to the ground, warping the screen so bad its chassis needs replacing. The reason they are lightweight is because still very little aluminium is used to make it safe. Most thin and light laptops don't really have great keyboards, in my experience.
The Alcantara is fine and durable. Just be clean about it. I've owned a Surface Pro for 5 years that has the material on the type cover and it's so nice to feel. What I do is every month or so, or when it gets dirty, is I take a slightly damp cloth and wipe down the Alcantara. It fluffs back up and looks like new.
This channel has much more of a laid back feel (sorry for a lack of better words). You can definitely feel a different vibe from the way the review is presented, a much more relaxed atmosphere in the video that doesn't seemed forced or a video that doesn't seemed rushed.
What? Are you crazy? First of all who uses their power button on a laptop, I literally shut down and power up my laptop maybe once every two / three weeks. Second of all, you sit it a pretty perfect position in front of your laptop so the face recognition works awesome. My Surface laptop 3 unlocks faster than I could even hope to touch the power button. Sick of his one dimensional comments. just because you want a bit more room to split a screen than a 13in laptop doesn’t make you “old”. Not like 15in is an unusual size. Same with the fabric keyboard... I’ve seen people’s ones get stained. I for one am glad there’s a 15in metal version but it’s not like they took away his 13in fabric version so why is he whinging about there being more options for more people. A bit unprofessional to have that kind of mindset that only people like you exist in the world. Also I’m glad there’s a 15in model with a standard processor. Too many laptops like the MBP or XPS require you to get an overpowered machine if you simply want a high level of build quality and a 15in display. I’m glad this exists.
Oh man, I'll take the ability to get at the SSD over the slightly better keyboard any day. Microsoft sometimes sends Windows 10 updates to Surface products before they send the required firmware for it. When this happens things break hard. As someone that always updates I feel it the most. I barely saved my Surface Book once when Microsoft messed up an update. Being able to get at the SSD gives me comfort in the fact I can always plug the drive into another PC to fix it when software updates go horribly wrong.
Seen them in the Microsoft store in London yesterday, the bezels on these are straight out of 2016. Dell, Asus, even Acer can manage to make much thinner bezels, this is such an eyesore to use on the daily.
No thunderbolt 3 is the biggest issue with this laptop. We were looking into getting Surface laptops for our company but fell down on that. I hope they do full TB3 on the Surface 4, because the laptop is otherwise amazing!
After all the various customer reports of the surface laptop 3's screen randomly shattering on them without any sort of abuse inflicted on the machine, I can't say it's even worth considering until Microsoft addresses the issue with a revision
OLD! Yeah, "old" people are the only people that "might" want a larger screen! Oh, I don't know WHO would want to trade off a worse keyboard for a larger screen!? I mean, WHO would ever use a laptop for ANYTHING else but typing! Maybe if someone was to invent some software that was NOT Word, and more focused on Visual things, like, oh I don't know Photos. For use is a Shop that deals with Photos? Old . . . what a tool.
@@Qytrh This whole channel is basically based on testing and reviews of 3 things. Cell phones, computers, and HUGE monitors and TV’s. So, WHO wants a larger screen? Well, apparently “they” think it is a HUGE number of their own audience. Hell, the third video on their new channel is all about a HUGE monitor.
The reason to choose metal and not fabric is to make sure you can fix the laptop, the fabric top is glued and will be destroyed if you try to fix the laptop.

I'm really liking the format of this channel. Straight forward, probably quick to prepare and to edit, but all good content. Saw some other comments to this effect and wanted to echo those sentiments.
Yes, because the ONLY people who would POSSIBLE want more screen real estate are old people. JFC
I mean, you did just say JFC... The only other person I've ever heard use that one is my 87 year old grandfather :P
Alex is not that nervous and cringey this time. Miracle!
Awesome video, this format is great for Alex.
Alex absolutely shines here.
Really appreciate how Microsoft actually made an effort to make their unrepairable laptop somewhat easy to work on. Have only really been seeing other devices going the other way over the past several years.
Microsoft should really make a surface thic boi laptop
You mean a Surface Book?
It should be called the Surface Thicc though
@@devone529 no pretty sure he said surface thic boi.
Just wait till the glass cracks
Watching the nicest guy in Canada review his favorite laptops had aboot as much conflict as you’d expect...
Feel like this needs a bit of background music
The no-frills intro was great. Really enjoying this more laid-back channel theme
Don't know why they messed with the keyboard. It was 10/10
It depends on what surface (no pun intended) your machine is resting on when the cable is pulled out...

10:19 Is that a Valentine's Day hickey on your neck?
Absolutely love the new channcel so far!
Keep it up!
I would love it if you could do a review of the new Dell XPS 13 (9300).
This channel has much more of a laid back feel (sorry for a lack of better words). You can definitely feel a different vibe from the way the review is presented, a much more relaxed atmosphere in the video that doesn't seemed forced or a video that doesn't seemed rushed.
if you turned that into a hackintosh you could literally just take it to a genius bar and ask for a replacement macbook
SL2 owner here & can confirm it is AMAZING
same and so do I!
Outro for ShortCircuit: "Subrscribe, I guess?" :D
I just bought one. Had it for a week. It's the Windows equivalent of a Macbook. It does everything I need it to do, highly recommend!
He’s quirky, I like him lol
Best new channel on UA-cam! thanks guy for adding this channel to Linus Media Group.. i like it
Windows hello < Fingerprint Scanner in the power button
*Change my mind*
Fingerprint over face recognition anytime, exept for my work phone
(Safety J don't know but for me it's enough. ) So good Windows Hello > Fingerprint in Power button. (For smartphones definitely fingerprint)
@@ibonitog I taped my webcam, how am I supposed to use Face Identification?
Also: placing your index finger on one specific spot takes like 2 seconds...
@@ibonitog If you allow your laptop to take an image of your face multiple times a day and upload that picture to a database where they use the data for unknown purposes, you're an idiot.
Thinkpads let you put a shutter over the camera at all times. They're for people with brains.
@@adultlunchables do you use social media and put pictures of yourself on that? Even if you don't what are they going to do with a picture of your face? They gon get your social security number? Your credit card information? What? Dont call people idiots for something that's unimportant, or anything for that matter.
the best thing about lower aspect ratios is that you can have the movie in full screen AND also have the controls visible at the same time without them being in the way of the video.
"you know...you know...you know...you know...you know..."
"I don't know, I don't really get the trade-off here. Because for me , I don't need a screen that's slightly larger, maybe if you're, I don't know, OLD."
Nice job alienating part of your audience.
I was thinking the same thing. He keeps saying how it's worse, but then guess on to describe how it's better.
I don't know if he's just bad in front of a camera or not but I'm thinking they need to keep him behind the camera instead of in front of it.
@@lucassatie I think he needs professional coaching. You have to develop a habit of thinking before you speak when on camera. That would probably make a big difference for him. Also, don't alienate your audience by insulting them, LOL.
Alex ~ "Probably 2 best laptop keyboards on the market"
Almost every ThinkPad ~ Am i joke to you?
I like this new channel, simple unboxing, just a quick overview, all the essentials ^^ good job LTT
Getting Started "Turn on...Come back in 2 days when Windows Update has finished"
Shadow Get an SSD man.
“I’d really like to finish in that one”
Gross, man.
Seen them in the Microsoft store in London yesterday, the bezels on these are straight out of 2016. Dell, Asus, even Acer can manage to make much thinner bezels, this is such an eyesore to use on the daily.
4:57 RUDE. Or if, I don't know, maybe you're an artist or something?
Yeah, there are many reasons people want bigger screens. It was strange statement from Alex.
No thunderbolt 3 is the biggest issue with this laptop. We were looking into getting Surface laptops for our company but fell down on that. I hope they do full TB3 on the Surface 4, because the laptop is otherwise amazing!
Paging Gamers Nexus. Would Gamers Nexus send a dozen build mats, stat!
Thanks for the new channel!
0:32 end of video.
Now say that again without crying
@@Qytrh This whole channel is basically based on testing and reviews of 3 things. Cell phones, computers, and HUGE monitors and TV’s. So, WHO wants a larger screen? Well, apparently “they” think it is a HUGE number of their own audience. Hell, the third video on their new channel is all about a HUGE monitor.
it's gorgeous. Tempted to have it be my next laptop. And I love the sandstone! Just a beautiful computer.

Thank you for reviewing this. Your laptop reviews are the best. Thanks.
Thank you
the way he kept throwing the laptop in his hands is pissing me off
The way he kept saying Alcantara is pissing me off
Being able to replace the fabric in the new one is also very nice
Here we are in 2020, and someone from LTT is trying to justify a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Its actually really good, (for anything that isn't gaming)
I am watching this on my Surface Laptop 2. I love it.
sl2 gang
Last time I was this early,
Jk I never was this early
The reason to choose metal and not fabric is to make sure you can fix the laptop, the fabric top is glued and will be destroyed if you try to fix the laptop.
Man i was waiting for this for weeks!
you seem to have forgotten to mention that the charger is now a fast charger as opposed to the one included in the last generations of Surface devices
Just a note to the editor: There was a lot of points where it was super unclear which laptop Alex was talking about when because of jump cuts, especially the end. "I like it" "It's an incremental improvement" "I'm going to use it because the screen is bigger" *while holding the old one*
To be fair to the editor. Alex was full-on winging this video and didn't have any concrete thoughts regarding anything in front of him, making editing what he was saying into cohesive points SUPER difficult.
I coffee the Surface Pro 3 two weeks ago and am glad to see it get a good review here. Been a Mac guy for over a decade and wanted to get back to Windows.
Like unboxed therapy but without needed the therapy after 😉 this channel is so nice and chilled keep it up 👍
You quite turning into a youtuber! A professional one! Bravo.
