No idea how Let Me Disappear had such mixed reactions, it's a 10/10 all day long. The breakdown/electronic section is one of the highlights of this EP for me lol, some of their best work yet.
I agree. It is experimental, but NORTHLANE has always kinda pushed the envelope when it comes to that. To say you can’t find the beat and give it a 1/10 is tasteless. To each their own, for sure, but that’s just not wanting to have an open mind with new music right there.
I personally love the fact that they're going towards a more experimental route with the abundance of synths and other effects, but how the songs were mixed just changed my perception of northlane's general sound. Nolly's mixes just sounded way more open and imo blended everything together better than whoever's mixing the songs rn
Love northlane to death. Loved the EP but this would hit a 100% better with a better mix.. For some reason, The EP sounded like a prequel to Alien and Obsidian lol.
Personally I love it, despite the mix being kinda lacking, especially on the vocals, I found it very enjoyable to listen to and a great evolution of Northlane's sound. Let Me Disappear is a freakin banger, Kraft fucks. I wish there was just one more new song to fill it out, but any new Northlane is good enough for me. I give it like an 8.5/10
I think this current sound and era of Northlane just doesn't work as well with Putney on the mix. The more natural, basic sound of their old stuff worked beautifully with him, but the new soundscape era NEEDS Nolly/Blancato working on it imo.
@@Moosetattchiowhat about the mix makes it unlistenable to you? Genuinely curious because to me the mix is a crisp and clean as any other and I for the life of me can not understand where people are coming from saying it’s bad
@@oscartaylordrums It sounds flat. I can't "feel" the music. The drums sound like they're coming from another room and there's hardly a low end or "punch" to the guitars. It sounds too sterile for my liking. Music shouldn't just be heard it should be felt. Go back and listen to snippets of Northlane's last three records real quick and switch back to this one and maybe you'll see what I mean. Tbf to Northlane, it's not just them that have mixed records like this recently. I feel like it's been a widespread problem in metal core since last year. I've skipped over records from bands I love because I feel like I'm hearing the mix through ear buds. I wish that we could take a drum n bass approach to mixing/producing metal records in this modern era but I feel like this trend will just continue.
@@RomanSwak Putney has produced some god tier records. I don't think it's that more than this is just the new trend for mixing. Putney also probably didn't mix it. That's usually a separate process from the "mix and master" portion of it.
This EP is them not giving a fuck and doing the stuff they never do on albums, like collabs or exploring the older sound and mix it in with the new one, Afterimage is probably my favorite, Ian's presence elevates the track so much more.
Kinda sad that bogdan was linking it, but the annoying twitch chat was dragging it down a bit. Its clearly supposed to be a very experimental project, thats why its an EP. Let Me Disappear is a banger imo.
How the fuck is this even polarizing/experimental? It's literally the same sound direction they have done for the past 2 albums, but now with some outstanding features? Like hello?
this was always the path for Northlane, not a fan of their single release schedule being 50% of the EP but overall this is an amazing piece of work. plus getting Brendon back for a feature? unreal
never ceases to amaze me how his fans can put down actually cool experimental music and ideas and then turn around and dickride generic trash like currents and new TDWP
People are just scared of experiments... yes Thrown nights is super good song but we hear similar ones all the time. I feel like the 2 new songs in this EP Let me Disappear and Kraft are one of the Northlanes best in a sense of pushing the boundaries again. It reminds me of these arsty experimental techno sets with weird rhythms and just overall non-traditional music writting. Northlane is trying to include this kind of sound into their music which i think is really fresh. I heard some people say that the 2 new songs sound muddy and are shitty because of the non-traditional rhythm - - but i think they CLEARLY know what they are doing and it is just some kind artistic intention to induce other atmospheres and so on. (maybe the vocals in the song Let me disappear are not so loud because they are not the main star in the song... maybe its just another texture... something to build up on. (PS. Remember what people were saying about Obsidian at first...)
I enjoyed it a lot, Northlane just does odd, weird, amazing and funky stuff all at once and I'm here for it. Over the years it was BMTH who I stuck with since suicide season and their remix version of the album, and now Northlane is scratching that itch for something unusual for me. And of course, Marcus has an outstanding signature voice, but while I honestly have no idea of what other members names are, I recognize what they're doing too, there's just so much to love about what the band as a whole does and how they execute on it. I hope one day Mick Gordon comes in for a collab of some sort, even tho we can already hear his influence on them with how they mixed Obsidian, might just be coincidence or might be that someone from the band heard Micks work from somewhere haha 😄
I think EP was good. Like sure, some breakdowns seemed odd and mix isn't everyones thing, but overall i dont think it deservers rating some of chatters seem to give
I don't get why some people who loved Alien and Obsidian are calling this mid, it's literally in the same realm as those 2 records. Like it took me a couple listens but this EP is a bop.
I was personally super critical of Obsidian, and I love this EP, it is such a good blend of Alien and Obsidian. The chat's reaction is something else, even if you don't like it. Production is weird, but the songs are super catchy and memorable
I like that they continue to experiment even with success, and there are a lot of good ideas and bad ideas scattered about in this. I think the biggest thing for me is that the production still feels dated even if the sound is new. I prefer listening to live versions of their music because it feels much better mixed live, their recordings lack the depth to really make me feel the music. Interestingly I feel the same with Thornhill who is possibly the closest to their sound, but Obsession was much better.
Great EP. The combination of Ian Kenny and Marcus is pure magic I have no idea how Northlane fans can be disappointed with songs like Afterimage and Dante tbh. It also sounds like Northlane all the way, don't really see how it's become polarizing.
I liked this EP more than the last 2 albums, the problem is that i can't buy a physical edition of an album with an AI cover and with no bass in the mix. A solid 8 of 10 from me.
The prelude into Afterimage goes hard, and I don't actually mind the weird breakdown in Let Me Disappear. As a non-Northlane fan, I'm actually not that into the well received singles like Dante.
This EP is bonkers, the release format is perfect for this. My complaint is they released too many singles. Everything on here feels really expressive in its experimentation and it just feels like suuuuch a breath of fuckin fresh air.
okay look, I understand people have differing opinions… but how can anyone in good faith give any song on this EP a 1/10? if you’re a fan of Northlanes last 2 albums especially…… that twitch chat is straight cap lmao.
honestly, i actually like it. northlane in general actually never done for me for some reason. but this ep is a 6 or 7 out of 10 I don't get the hate man. not an ep of the year for me but I'll probably go back to this ep once or twice or more... speaking of ep of the year tho have you checked out new thrown somg bogdan?
I also dont know what bogdan means with that title. Mirrors Edge is a progression of Obsidian and it was pretty obvious they will continue with that sound.
Such a great EP. Would’ve been better if they only put out 1 or 2 singles max. Let me disappear is fantastic. Can we get an Eidola album reaction 👀👀 AOTY contender for sure.
Miasma and Kraft are the best thing about this EP, imho. I don't think anyone can beat this Northlane sound. But if we're talking about MTS - it's a 50/50. The only two bands I can listen to on a daily basis.. like it used to be with LP. You know people used to hate on Linkin Park as well?) Not surprised chat hating on Northlane when they are pushing the boundaries of the copy paste metalcore everyone in the chat most probably will give a 10/10 score. ;) I officially hate Bogdan's twitch chat. ^^ Not sure whats "most polarizing yet" about this EP.. Obsidian was more experimental.. 2.5/10, 3/10... wow.
imo i think of northlane as an edm band at this point, and I think, as an edm band, they're fucking awesome. It's only disappointing if you go into it expecting a metalcore/prog metal band.

First time I heard Let Me Disappear, I absolutely hated it because of the mix. The glitches in the breakdown were SO LOUD and the actual instruments were so quiet. Completely lost all its power. The guitar just lack the punch it needed to make the breakdown works to me. I don't mind the vocal mix actually
giving dante a 1/10 is hilarious. I cant see an explanation to how its possible less than a 7 at least, especially to modern metalcore fans
