As a Prog enthusiast, I have to say that I love this EP to death! Metalcore on the whole tends to get stale after a while (for me, at least) and so I’m glad bands like Northlane are around to push the boundaries a little.

this is such a good fucking EP to be honest, and Let Me Disappear it's my favorite song. Dude, and honestly i can't understand how people can say that the mix is bad, like on what kind of shitty sound system are they listening? do they even know what a bad mix is?
Let Me Disappear's breakdown just hurts my ears, otherwise the mix sounds fine.
i know exactly what you mean, that breakdown in let me disappear had me so hyped when I first heard it. the two new songs are so heavy and go so hard. the mix is clear and full and they have finally fused the electronic and guitar sections perfectly. just don't think people are ready for it yet. northlane are pushing the boundaries with this one.
What sound system are you listening to it on? This mix is awful, this compared to Alien or Obsidian, this sounds like it was released in 2016
Listened to it on my car speakers, my iPhone speakers, my headphones, my studio headphones, and my studio monitors, and the breakdown still has extreme volume spikes with the glitch sounds on every single playback method. Thats how I know it’s a mix issue. I actually really like the song and the EP, but there’s no denying the mix isn’t what it should be. I mean look at Node, that mix is pretty bad, and it’s genuinely a top 5 all time album for me
People are so accustomed to hearing 808s and blast beats on breakdowns lol

Rhythmically its a masterpiece. The polyrhythmic riffs are amazing and enhanced by the electronics. This EP is cool. Doesn't strike a chord emotionally but I'm ok with something this cool.
I love when Northlane goes full experimental, which is why Abomination and Xen were my favorites off Obsidian. Let Me Dissappear was scratching that same itch but unfortunately the breakdown killed the song for me. Can't help but be bummed out by the missed potential on this EP with better mixing.
If this was mixed like Obsidian was, this would've easily went waaay up for me, but it fell flat..
@mikeormoab Yes. The mixing is my biggest issue. Especially on Let Me Disappear. The vocals are drowned behind the guitar and synth and the effects on the breakdowns are way louder than anything else in the song
Northlane be breaking boundaries with every single release. Now that's what I like! So glad they got back with Brendan for Kraft, he did an amazing job on Alien as a vocalist and bassist. I don't know why people are hating on this EP..

I like this EP but at the same time I don't think the mixing was worth working with Will Putney, like at all. Both "Obsidian" and "Alien" sounded crystal clear, thus alot better than the overly compressed "Mirror's Edge".
I live in Perth and got to see Northlane play here recently. I can't actually believe how Marcus is almost tone for tone perfect live verses recorded music. He is a GOD.

Northlane is Greatest Band Forever
Let Me Disappear had the potential to be a really fantastic song, but the mix was especially bad on that song. Other than the obvious volume spikes from the glitch sounds during the breakdown, the snare seemed louder and had this reverb thing going on that took over the mix, the vocals during the verse were completely muffled, and there’s no punch to the kick. Overall I love the music side of this EP, 10/10 in that aspect, but damn I wish I could get my hands on the stems so I can mix it for myself. Cause there’s so many things that would suit my ear better, just purely my opinion. It’s just that song though, the rest are good the way they are

Can't lie, I was super bummed to see we only got two tracks + an extended intro to Afterimage, but I love this direction
6:36 lmao I feel the exact same way. The mix on these songs sounded horrible to me at first but I got used to it the more I listened. It's still not great, but not unlistenable.
The individual songs are nice, as an EP it does not flow very well. The mix imo works for Miasma and Dante but not really on the other tracks. While all three singles are fucking great, Let Me Disappear and Kraft felt pretty weak and forgettable to me. And making one of the only 3 non singles a very simple lead-in was not a good decision imo (though it sounds fire with Afterimage ngl), should've condensed them into one song and put another full length song between Afterimage and Miasma.
That being said Dante and Afterimage are absolutely incredible and probably save the EP for me

I've tried to stop paying so much attention to EP/LP singles from my fav bands recently as it ruins the full project for me. I gave each of these singles like 1 or 2 listens before this EP dropped. This EP is amazing.
Still wondering if Ritual by TDWP is gonna be off an album or not because its SO good.

Honestly i'm a bit disappointed with new Northlane EP, personally i don't like the mix on most songs(i'm not sure whether it's a problem of mix or production, so it'd be just mix).
Obviously i know that some people may enjoy this type of mix but to me it seems somewhat raw not in the best way.
In my opinion, the most well-mixed song on that Mini-Album is Dante, everything else is... different?
It just seems like some parts of overloaded guitars are a bit too loud, while the vocals are a bit too quiet, overall it has some controversial feel to it.
This is exactly why i couldn't enjoy The Death We Seek album of Currents as well for the most part.
Obsidian of Northlane was mixed surprisingly better than the current EP.
Some may object that the type of mix on this EP is quite common and better for this type of music, but i gotta disagree.
I know that it is wrong comparing stuff to other bands based on personal wishes (because it's only a business of a band and their art, really)
But give a listen to last Humanity's Last Breath album and notice how perfectly well the overloaded guitars balanced with vocals despite being so loudly distorted, this is just an example!
Also EP has an interlude, wish it was a song(but it might be just my problem apparently)
Although it always seemed weird to me when bands included interludes into Mini-Albums.
Don't get me wrong, i still enjoyed this EP a lot, i think my favorite song is Afterimage.
The band is always trying to implement something experimental and unique and i respect that, but some experiments were too weird, overall solid 7/10.
I enjoyed the EP. I did also feel the mix was slightly off volume wise.
Hey nice, I'm also at 8/10 for this whole EP! I really like it. Maybe some songs grow on me even more than now, but for today it's 8. Still, I love obsidian and alien more they both 10/10 albums, but whatever. Really good EP tho like I said
EP is fantastic. My only gripe is with the release strategy. I think they should have stuck to releasing ‘Dante’ and allowing the EP to be a surprise.
Personally I love this EP. Is the mix where it should be? No... but with that being said, I really dig this direction and I can feel pulls from both Alien and Obsidian. The thing most people are unwilling to acknowledge is just how hard it is to top previous work that are widely hailed as masterpieces. Northlane has had 10/10 perfect albums and so to try to continue to build even higher than that is insanely hard for a band to do, especially while simultaneously experimenting direction wise. They way I see it is take it for what it is and don't compare it to Alien. It's different, its new, and it doesn't have to be picture perfect as those others have been.
I think Dante, for me, is their best song and I can't listen to it enough. Afterimage has a great chorus. The rest of the EP to me sounds just fine. I don't love the rest of the EP as much as Dante, but it's still solid and going on my playists.
Kraft was a banger!
The intro and Afterimage are favorites. The rest are meh... although i might give it another listen. On first listen yesterday i think i remember liking the last song.
I like all the songs honestly, the raw and flat production does not help at all, that being said its kinda something i like, i understand its a major turn off for alot of people, if you cant make out the vocals on a very dense part or cant hear the kick clearly, i think the newer sounding stuff is definitely something Nolly handled better, or atleast pleased more people.
Its never going to top Alien for me, but its cool to see them doing something somewhat different, without trying to please everyone, i really respect that.
Its a great ep but i don't think im going to come back to it as often as Alien or Obsidian
People are just scared of experiments... yes Thrown nights is super good song but we hear similar ones all the time. I feel like the 2 new songs in this EP Let me Disappear and Kraft are one of the Northlanes best in a sense of pushing the boundaries again. It reminds me of these arsty experimental techno sets with weird rhythms and just overall non-traditional music writting. Northlane is trying to include this kind of sound into their music which i think is really fresh. I heard some people say that the 2 new songs sound muddy and are shitty because of the non-traditional rhythm - - but i think they CLEARLY know what they are doing and it is just some kind artistic intention to induce other atmospheres and so on. (maybe the vocals in the song Let me disappear are not so loud because they are not the main star in the song... maybe its just another texture... something to build up on. (PS. Remember what people were saying about Obsidian at first...)

Very mixed on this one. It's good, no doubt about that, and I've added every song to my playlist, but nothing really stood out to me other than Dante. It's experimental but a lot less focused than Alien or Obsidian. It probably would have helped if they hadn't released three singles too; Afterimage really should've been kept for the EP's release. The mixing/production is also a huge step backwards from Obsidian, which sounded literally perfect.
For me, as a huge Northlane fan, this EP wasn't it for me really. The songs they already released are the best ones, the other 2 are shit imo. Still I'm excited for what's coming next.

I respect them trying something unique/weird but the non-single ones are just a bit too weird for me
ranking songs feat. unpopular opinions:
1. mirror’s edge/afterimage- super well written song(s), mixing is great, and it just feels full and so good
2. miasma- i honestly enjoy the mixing. this song is so awkward and has some great grooves which i like where others think it feels empty. and that briiiiiiidge is sooo insane as a musician (like how do you count that)?! idk, i personally don’t understand why people don’t like it as much but have your own opinion
3. kraft- idk what else to say it’s just sooooo cool
4. dante- this song is still so damn good despite being #4. i just don’t think it peaked or went hard enough for being a proggier, slower song. like in that part where it’s that guitar riff/solo they could’ve thrown in a breakdown or something idk. still such a good song.
5. let me disappear- this is the weakest one for me. it’s good but just not as good as the others imo. it didn’t really resonate with me in any way.
overall a very solid ep imo, i just wish that they had one less single so we got more than essentially 2 new songs to listen to. also just saying- missed opportunity for the end of dante to loop into mirror’s edge.

outside of Dante and the chorus of Afterimage this one is a dud. it's a shame because I really liked Alien and Obsidian. the songwriting here just does not come together. Let Me Disappear is a total mess and the rapping on Kraft is genuinely terrible. the production is unbearable too. it sounds so flat and the punchy drums cutting through does not work. very disappointed with this one.
I think La Dispute - King Park is a better song/band than this whole EP 10 fold. I wouldn't bother with these Northline guys
When you listen to Singularity then this, this seems poopy.
I miss guitar melody, I miss something technical instead of chug chug chug harmonic and repeat. Production sound is also terrible, it all sounds like a demo. Very unnatural, soulless…. Not to mention the AI album cover.
