I got this very same gun 3 years ago. I must gotten a good one. Cause it’s been 100% reliable and 100% accurate. It shoots and shoots and shoots. I go shooting with my friend.. he has a Springfield 1911 and this gun has never made me look bad. My advice, grease all rubbing parts.
Picking mine up today. Great gun, I saw two people competing one with a Kimber and the second one with a Rock, well the Rock beat the Kimber in accuracy.
i bought one of the ones with the billboard new back in the early 90's for $275 and it is a good copy of the bare bones 1911. . the colt story is new to me.
Got one of these for my first pistol. Big 1911 fan and there’s something special about the GI model I can’t get away from. I changed the flat to a arched mainspring housing and changed the grips to some pachmayer rosewood. I’ve probably shot close to 500 rounds since I’ve had it and I’ve only had one issue. Slide didn’t go all the way into battery so I just gave it a little bump and it went right in. Other than that it’s a great pistol.
Great video! I'm debating to get this RIA 1911 or spend twice as much on a Kimber Stainless or Raptor. I'm in California, so my choices are limited. The overwhelming positive reviews on the RIA 1911... I guess I can't go wrong with it especially at $500
I never had any problems with mine . I have shot 250 rounds from cast lead with powder coating and round ball and hallow point as well . Not one problem so looking for the next time out .
I have an ria 1911 as well & i agree i think it is the parkerization that needs to be worn down via break in process i also had issues first 200 rounds or so but runs great now. I also have a gov mag that works great and a 7rd mag that runs great but doesnt lock slide. Not a bad track record as far as im concerned. Great review BrownCoatNerd
No you’re not buying a colt. You are buying a cast frame well made pistol which should serve well. I don’t really know if a cast frame is the end of the world, I have a dozen 1911s most are forged frames and slides. However of that Dozen I have two RI 1911s and they go bang everting I pull the trigger and actually use my 1911 tac FS 9mm for club level steel challenge. It has at least 5;000 rounds through over the last 8 years and it has asked for nothing but some sights and the occasional respring and is has been very reliable. Thanks for sharing.
Three upgrades every RIA M1911 A1-FS should do which will cost you less than 100 bucks. First, upgrade the mags to Sig Sauer or Wilson Combat (about $20 - $30 each). Second, replace the recoil spring with one from Wilson Combat (under $20 and easy to do). Third replace the grips with G10 ones (Amazon for $20 bucks in different colors). You do those three things she'll never jam and will run smooth as any Dan Wesson or Colt and you'll spend over double for those. Oh, and never run hollow point through a 1911, only 230grain FMJ's. There is no need to run hollow point in any 45ACP in my opinion, she was designed to thump and put a man down. Worked through 2 World Wars.
A friend of mine had the "large print lettering on slide" version & had some issues with it... funny you mention those ones.. agreed i didnt like that style particularly
ha ha ha a Cruffler's review of this pistol. I just ordered on from Academy - waiting for it to ship so I can pick it up from the store. From all of the reviews that I have watched, its a good pistol - may or may not need some breaking in, may or may not like certain mag brands, etc.
I love rock island 45s those Philippines flat out know and do crazzy things machines can't do.I seen some crazzzzy vids of them making 45s I am hooked and I have more than one.new sub here thanks.please make more on what you do with this sweet pistol.
Like one of the comments below, I'll pick-up my armscor 1911 in a couple of days (after my California 10 day DROS). My model is a Citadel, fraternal twin of Rock Island. A subtile difference between the two models is the shape of the beavertail. The Citadel has an upturned extended beavertail like the Rock Island Pro Match model while Rock Island's standards GI model has a downturned beavertail. Which is best? I suspect it depends on how it fits and functions on each shooter's hand. I prefer the upturned version with a more distinct grip safety. Food for thought...
Ironically, Rock Island never actually intended for this to be a true representation of the WWII 1911A1. It was actually intended to be a basic (see cheap) gun to pitch to security forces using .38 revolvers. People noticed its resemblance to the WWII 1911A1 and Rock Island just went with it. Once these things are back in stock, I intend to buy one myself.
I bought this gun and absolutely hate it. It’s so bad that I’m starting to think I got a factory defect. It feels like you’re pulling a Mack truck just to rack it. The slide gets stuck in one part. I opened it up and there is a little whole that seems to be making the slide get stuck and not rack smoothly. I honestly feel like I lost $480 bucks 🤦♂️
BrowncoatNerd Thanks for the advice I’m definitely gonna bring it back to the store. Hopefully they’re willing to take it back without giving me problems. The owner seems to be really arrogant. I get the feeling that he might try to tell me these issues are normal just to not give me a refund back. I really hope not but it won’t surprise me.
JACOB worse case reach out to Rock Island. They have a lifetime warranty and I’ve heard their customer service is really good. The downside is I’m sure it would be a process that will take a few months. You’d have to send them the one you have and they’d ether fix it or send you another one. I hope it all works out well for you. Keep us updated.
Mine was a little hard to rack but after stripping it down, I cleaned out all of the grease it came with and then lubed it up good. Thing racks a lot easier now but I still need to get to a range to send some lead through it.
Wilson combat mags work great with it
I have no doubt. I just really like the classic look of a flush fit mag.
I bought one of these right after I turned 21 in 2006. Still have it and still enjoy it :)
Nice

She’s been very good to me. I’ve taken her out a few times since making the video and have had no issues. Thank you for your input.

Picking mine up tomorrow morning. Super excited
Joe Milo I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Just remember the break in period.
@@BrowncoatNerd absolutely. Already have range for the morning and plenty of ammo
@@BrowncoatNerd The breaking period is a 1000 rounds.

I did buy some Ed brown magazines they work very well .
Just saw your video. Browncoats forever!!! And yes, I carry a RIA tactical full size.
Shiny!
I never had any problems with mine . I have shot 250 rounds from cast lead with powder coating and round ball and hallow point as well . Not one problem so looking for the next time out .
IM IN THE MARKET FOR THIS VERY "RIA 1911 ACP 45" THIS WEEKEND!!😃😁👍👍🤟🤘
william combat makes a 10 round mag. I am new to the 1911 also and fired my 1st 100 rounds thru it with zero issues
Best review I've seen so far
Monkey Nutz thank you!
The black plastic piece that came with the magazine is a slam pad it makes getting the mag loaded faster.
Nice video well done!

Got a few Wilson Combat mags & a few E-Lander mags to try in my RIA. Haven't been able to get out & shoot yet.
Abe Lincoln from what I hear the Wilson Combat are some of the best quality mags.

I get mines on the 8-30-22 =) can't fucking wait.

Just bought this yesterday. It's beautiful and feels great in the hand. Love the weight
Matthew Engle just keep in mind if you got a brand new one, it might take some braking in. Overall I’m very happy with mine.
We both have the same taste for a 1911.. The classic style. I like it the way it is except for the grip
Same.
what kind of grips are you looking for Smooth?

I’m ashamed that I had to look up cruffler. Especially when I discovered that I am indeed a cruffler! I think you’ll enjoy your RIA.
I didn't know Seth Rogan made gun reviews. All jokes aside great review!

This gun is a 1911 version of a Tank. Gets the job done / hits hard. I got mine in 2010 and yes the slide is a big billboard. Love my Rock.

Funny you say that since rock island armory 1911 is made on the original colt machinery to the same processes that the original 1911 was made on
Also the ria 1911 is interchangeable with the original colt 1911's
