As one who just came home from doing almost 13 years, it was during the middle part of my incarceration that I began to see how I kept finding myself in these situations. So I decided to evaluate my life from day one. Yes I was raised in foster care, sexually abused and abandoned by my mother. So perhaps the early part of my life could be blamed on these factors as to how my life was turning out at that point. But what I realized that I was so much older now but still doing dumb s---. And that it no longer could be blamed on my "past". Rather it was time for me to grow up, take responsibility for my actions and begin to make better decisions, re-embrace my faith and start understanding that the system did not put a gun to my head-Instead, being on life parole, I was continuing to make bad decisions, I was immature and I was very selfish. So I went to work on self and as I embark on my third year of freedom, it has made all the difference in the world.
I pray that you have (or will) received healing on the sexual abuse and other neglect/abuse inflicted as a child. It was NOT your fault‼️ Bravo to you for doing the WORK of life by accepting responsibility for what you can control and holding yourself accountable.

What Denzel Washington describes are the virtues of a household when Mothers and Fathers are truly parents. He is right. However, if you or Denzel believe the only problem with race in this country is due to Black Fathers not raising their children properly, and not structurally marginalized black communities, and not police denying black youth's their due process, and not increase of violence from white supremacists. I grew up with him in my life, only on TV and movies, but I always thought he was a "real" man, "real" human and really AMAZING. I am so glad he is brave enough to put the blame where it belongs for all our children.
Denzel Washington is a legend. I have always said it is not the government/school/taxpayer's responsibility to raise/feed/instill morals and discipline into my child. It is my responsibility as a parent to do all those things for my child.
This is true. But what happens when parent's don't do that? Should we let the children suffer? And - how much do we as a society "suffer" (people who are desperately poor turn to crime more often)? I want the best, most economic solution. I am not sure that is just doing nothing in those cases where parent's are failing..
If only that did the trick. To just have always said this and so it is. It may not be the government's responsibility, but as an ex teacher, it becomes our responsibility and we aren't paid extra to do so. If you've never taught (have you?) then it's harder to wrap the mind around. If you left the teachings of morals, etc. and trusted all parents all of the time, well, look at how well that has gone. It has come to the point and it's been that way, that someone else DOES INDEED need to be involved. The teachers are with these children sometimes more than the parents....actually, OFTEN. To educate in certain areas that are sometimes purposefully being overlooked at home as well as teaching children the basics on how to be a good kid going forward....these things are not often focused on at home. Parents are selfish, parents are tired, etc. etc. And I'm just talking about the ones who have parents to begin with. I love Denzel and Morgan Freeman. However, I believe they now talk from a place of privilege and forget what it is like and/or haven't done the work in order to really SEE the truth. If they were still struggling, their answers would be wildly different.
@@waylonwhitehead7093 where the parents are failing is where the community, other relatives, teachers etc need to step up. Graduated HS on time, got a good job, own my own home, etc. It's possible for anybody, but sometimes people just need a little more help.
@Josh Hernandez I applaud your magnanimous efforts that allowed you to achieve so much. Please allow me to share a different perspective and one that I had to learn after being so negative against my own community. I learned that black people in the US are one of the few groups that had to constantly rebuild after enduring destruction of what they already built. While they were fighting to rebuild, they faced obstacles intentionally put into place to hinder their ability to thrive. Obstacles like inadequate public transportation, food and job deserts and more. They also defunded schools and shifted funds to prisons for profit and then over policed the community seeking every reason to incarcerate someone. Do you know how many fathers were lost due to police violence, gang violence or simply pushed out due to their inability to provide? Once someone got a record, it severely hindered them from overcoming it to become gainfully employed. I say that not as an excuse but to say it takes herculean efforts to overcome those obstacles and begin to thrive. I experienced it. A single mom at 17 and living alone. Sometimes homeless. Standing at the bus stops at 11 at night to goto work all night. Trusting someone to care for your very young child. One time, I trusted the wrong person and found my 1 year old sitting out on the back porch during winter with nothing on but an extremely wet diaper, freezing and crying. Which is funny because he was clothed in pajamas when I left. I slowly worked my way up, paid my way through college and ended up with a career that allowed me to travel around the world, own a home and more. It wasn't easy. It was lonely, scary, and didn't allow me to properly take care of myself. Once I had an opportunity to live abroad, I saw the difference in good education, free higher education, healthcare, livable wages even at McDonald's, jobs and foods in every community can make a difference in young people's lives. I see how kid's can count on their parents even if they are working compared to the US. My son's school called me at work to tell me he was missing. I told my boss I had to leave and why and they basically said it wasn't important and to get back to work. I risked losing my job to go and find my son. I found him laying in a pool of water having a severe asthma attack. Luckily my manager's manager overhead and chastised them and I didn't lose my job. However imagine if I didn't have the added stress of job loss while I look for my missing son? I am sorry for being long winded, I just wanted to share a different perspective that not everyone in those communities believe the opportunities exists because they themselves come from families that lost so much and it is fair of them to say "the white man won't let them have anything." It is why I truly support mentoring programs to help get rid of that mentality so they too can thrive even in a country that is hostile for them.

@@fenwayify you’re not entirely wrong in that humans naturally fear what’s different. that doesn’t mean they can’t overcome that though. the u.s. for some reason is just trapped in a never ending circle of race issues. you guys view everything through the glasses of race. you guys still believe in race. in other countries, racists are not the people who have negative judgements upon members of different races, but rather people who are convinced, that there is enough difference between people of different ethnic heritages that goes beyond the cultural and superficial biological ones, to actually speak of a different race of human. hence the name, racist. like a fascist believes in fascism, a racist believes in race. but in north america everybody seems to think like that. and the few hippies who hold signs with “one race“ or whatever are not what i mean because they’re also of the opinion that there are races, they just act like there could be utopia where everyone to be happy which each other. im aware that there are scientific opinions who oppose this, in germany and france f.i. those are only represented on the extreme right, im not a biologist so i can’t say if it’s right or wrong. but i can say that i had friends with different skin colors and cultures since i was a child (africans and arabs) and the only differences that go beyond appearance i could ever make out are cultural and behavioural. i’m not saying those countries are free of racism (racism as in your linguistic usage) but those problems are merely due to culture clashes and the miserable failure of the governments in integrating the huge mass of refugees. regarding rwanda, you’re just misinformed. tutsi is the word for stock farmer, hutu the word for crop farmers. in the late 1800s the tutsi became increasingly socially superior due to geographic expansions of the state borders. the twa (hunters) were completely unaffected from this whole development. the german and later the belgian colonialists we’re the ones who assumed that there was a racial background to the social inequalities, but there factually was no difference in heritage or race between the groups. tutsi and hutu became (due to the social constellation) something like synonyms for ruling and ruled. the reasons for the civil war were oppression and inequality of opportunity. not race. because there was and never has been a racial difference, also not a “shade“ of skin color.
@@BrainRot4Life-j4z Thanks for correcting me on Rwanda. I had a cursory understanding of the war and had assumed the distinctions between Hutu and Tutsi were ethnic or skin shade, but now see that was a myth promoted by colonizers. At any rate, the point I was trying to convey is just that racial issues still exist in America (and elsewhere), as they have since our founding. Endlessly emphasizing the subject of race may become counter-productive, perpetuate or even exacerbate divisions to some degree, but ignoring or denying that issues remain doesn't seem ideal either. I also don't believe such a stance will move the needle much and lead to meaningful change. For Denzel and Morgan and Oprah, they have transcended race, at least in terms of work, but in many, many areas, glaring inequality persists and more work needs to be done.

The day we forget about race is the day when we will become 1 people.
I wish you nothing but good fortune in this world. Self awareness is everything. You got this. 🩵

@Josh Hernandez So perfectly said!
@@waylonwhitehead7093 where the parents are failing is where the community, other relatives, teachers etc need to step up. There's alot of "not my problem" attitudes in the country until it becomes our problem then its "how did it get like this?" Graduated HS on time, got a good job, own my own home, etc.
No matter how many times i hear these words, it always brings tears to my eyes.
Thank you Larry Elder for sharing the inspirational words of Denzel Washington.

Everything is accurate except the love of God part. Smh. You dont need god or love god to know what morals and values are, what is right or wrong etc... you learn these traits from home, from parents if they doing their job as parents. @@fenwayify you’re not entirely wrong in that humans naturally fear what’s different. that doesn’t mean they can’t overcome that though. the u.s. for some reason is just trapped in a never ending circle of race issues. you guys view everything through the glasses of race. you guys still believe in race. in other countries, racists are not the people who have negative judgements upon members of different races, but rather people who are convinced, that there is enough difference between people of different ethnic heritages that goes beyond the cultural and superficial biological ones, to actually speak of a different race of human. hence the name, racist. like a fascist believes in fascism, a racist believes in race. but in north america everybody seems to think like that. and the few hippies who hold signs with “one race“ or whatever are not what i mean because they’re also of the opinion that there are races, they just act like there could be utopia where everyone to be happy which each other.

i’m not saying those countries are free of racism (racism as in your linguistic usage) but those problems are merely due to culture clashes and the miserable failure of the governments in integrating the huge mass of refugees.
regarding rwanda, you’re just misinformed. tutsi is the word for stock farmer, hutu the word for crop farmers. in the late 1800s the tutsi became increasingly socially superior due to geographic expansions of the state borders. the twa (hunters) were completely unaffected from this whole development. the german and later the belgian colonialists we’re the ones who assumed that there was a racial background to the social inequalities, but there factually was no difference in heritage or race between the groups. tutsi and hutu became (due to the social constellation) something like synonyms for ruling and ruled. the reasons for the civil war were oppression and inequality of opportunity. not race. because there was and never has been a racial difference, also not a “shade“ of skin color.

That brought tears! What you do & how you act is what makes you you! Bucket list giant hugs to this awesome person!
Denzel has always been wise.
You'd be surprised how many blk ppl think just like him. He reminds me of my dad and uncles. The problem is the Leftist media doesn't want the public to know ppl like Denzel exist.
Denzel might make for a good running mate
He's level headed enough to be what Obama could have been!
Denzel is intelligent enough to speak about race relations in this country without controversy. No one knows how he really feels unless you are engaging in a PRIVATE conversation with him in his home.
I loved the look his wife gave in that one interview!
She knew he was speaking Truth!
I know, to know you have that man as your husband, she looked so proud.
I thought that might be his mom!...ooops! my bad...she do look older than him...a lot older.
Love denzel
I do hope to meet him and shake his hand one day.. There aren’t too many human beings like Denzel Washington left in this strange world we’re in and that’s a hell of a shame because we desperately need their wisdom and humanity.
I have a lot of admiration for Denzel. I really enjoy his movies and he has a lot of common sense and wisdom that isn't necessarily in line with the narrative of the mainstream media. Thank you Larry for posting this!
@will smith No, but I happen to stumble onto this and agreed. I take it you are a lib by your response.
OMG I've loved Denzel since I was a young teenager and my respect and admiration has only increased witnessing his courage to speak truth.
So theirs no racism in the courts....no state prosecutors and defence attorneys with racist thinking that don't care about a young black male getting a second chance..... instead they look at him as a throw away
Love you Denzel Washington!! Love how he speaks from the heart with such common sense! You the man! Denzel!
At a time (now) when common sense is not so common✊
My respects for Larry Elder and Denzel Washington. For the record I am Hispanic from El Salvador.
He's not the only one. Morgan Freeman, Lil Wayne. And many more. I hope this helps people see the truth he speaks the truth. Dame great man and actor too.
And don't forget Thomas Sowell.
💯 and notice all is contrary to media influence.
Lil Wayne?!? GTFOH
Not sure why the sarcastic Lil Wayne comment. Not my cup of tea in music but that doesn't make him any less of an opinionated person. At least he's speaking out these days with cancel culture living in their moms basement. That's Big.

That's my ultimate goal (and prayer) is to not cuss people out any more- who piss me off deliberately.
The micro-expressions on Denzel's face when he gets asked those clearly loaded questions is very telling. He is a great actor, capable of portraying a wide range of emotions, characters and personalities, but as soon as they ask him to race-bate, he gets that fiery look in his eyes.
That look in his eye was him abandoning his community.
@@nt9389 we are all responsible for our own actions. He's just telking the truth.
No doubt being black in America is an uphill task but don't we need to put in effort . How long will we be passing the buck
We should stop giving ammunation to our detractors
@@nt9389 That look in his eye was him refusing to be a professional victim.
@@nt9389 It's not his responsibility to take care of your family. It's the Father's responsibility to provide & take care of his family. "It starts in the home," "If the father is not in the home the boy will find a father in the streets. I saw it in my generation and every generation before me, and everyone since." "If the streets raise you, then the judge becomes your mother and the prison your home." Denzyl Washington
Larry, we haven't met personally but we are friends! Thank you
Thank you for this... This is a message for all good men.
As a white man I have to say he's an absolute legend on and off screen! This man is a role model for us all.
Don't forget Mr Morgan Freeman.
Best speech I've ever heard!
Hey Larry, it ain’t just black kids who need to hear that message, and I’m not comparing the circumstances of my life to those of a kid growing up in the projects, surrounded by crackheads and gang bangers, but I do know what it’s like to grow up inside a system that offers it’s children justifications and excuses rather than inspiration and guidance..
Denzel can only do so much. We need more like him.
I appreciate Denzel for his integrity and fearlessness. He confidently navigates the swamp water of negativity and puts his trust in God.
This video is my new go to when life's challenges start feeling like a little bit too much. What a great example. Thanks
One of my favorite not just actor but human. So balanced, so honest, so objective and matter of fact. Bless him.
Love this man!
Hi.. Donna
Denzel Washington is a classy man, and I love that he is super truthful and honest. Many "woke" celebrities have no clue what is going on with the country, at least he is able to talk about social issues without sounding rude or disrespectful.
How can anyone dislike this video. That commencement speech was so inspiring. Absolutely brilliant.
Because it goes against the "You're a victim because there were slaves 200 years ago" narrative
Okay so yall say the same about jews right?
@@HomerunsamSOSA what?
Denzel has done so much for so many people, a true class act and incredible human being
So much respect for this man.
He's a brilliant actor a great man just a decent human being.....
I don’t think that I can love Denzel Washington anymore than I do right now!!! Love this, Larry!
Words of truth from Denzel , very smart man !!
~Thank you Denzel...we all need exactly what you said to do. 🥰
We need more people in the world like Denzel Washington.
So articulate, love how he doesn't allow reporters to dictate the narrative.
Weird...Denzel says the sytem is rigged. All black folks know this. Why did larry edit thst out?
@@nathansaunders552 … please explain your statement that “the system is rigged. ..all black folks know this.”
@@ingfig1 not a problem. In the interview Denzel srates the system is rigged.
The "system" in this particular instance refers to the American judicial system.
We as Americans know that the American judicial system legalized bias against minorities and tolerated said bias once deemed illegal. So black people are keenly aware the "system" is rigged.
...so articulate. Many Black People are articulate. That statement says a lot.
Tommy Sotomayor!
Denzel is a wonderful role model for us all. 🤗
I certainly do not agree with much of Mr. Washington's politics, but he has a valid point. My father served his country 18 years in the USMC. My brother and i had rules. And consequences if the rules were broken. And we had an example to follow. Young males, black, brown or white, need a role model. Without that, they make the same mistakes that young men have made throughout history. Thank you Mr. Elder for your service to our great nation. Knowledge is a powerful thing. Thank you for sharing. GOD BLESS AMERICA
I really do not know what his politics are or if I agree with him or not....and I think that is his biggest appeal.
Young females need a good Father role model as well, without that they get lost and fall into every man's hands
He didn’t say anything political, he was saying all things of common sense
@@chargerdad210 To a democrat, that is both political and wrong.
From holly wood to uncle scam, it's been a systematic attack on men and boys in this country for decades. From telling boys they can't be boys, feminizing us, or portraying men on tv and movies as being morons and fools, who cannot do anything, without a "strong female-leader", the commies have implemented a highly effective plan.
Lets go Branden.
He’s one of my favorite actors.
Thank you 🙏 Larry, Appreciate y’all to bring us the Truth News 📰. Kudos to Denzel Washington and great Patriot’s standing for Truth and Law. God Bless America 🇺🇸 and the Rule of Law. All day long Yahoo
Love him! … and he is always on point! 😊❤️👍
I believe Denzel is the ONLY BLACK ACTOR WHO PUTS RACE ON THE BACK BURNER AND HE JUST STEPS FORWARD WITH HIS INTELLIGENCE,TALENT, AMBITION ETC. HE DOESN'T PLAY THE RACE CARD OR BLAME ANY RACE CARD!!!
Morgan Freeman as well.
Then you haven't heard Morgan freeman and Samuel l Jackson speak.
EXCELLENCE, EXCELS!! THANK GOD for MR. WASHINGTON and YOU, MR. ELDER!! PRIME EXAMPLES!!
Im thankful for Denzel for being who he is a great role model.
Thank you Larry! Keep up the good work!!
Me too!
Denzel thank God for your commonsence , good on you'you lovely human being.
Denzel is not only a great actor but also a great man, he stands for what its right.
Impossible not to love him
