He carried gladiator 2 on his back!! Really loved the movie because of the way he played macrinus. Man everyone’s acting was great but Denzel just has a realism to it. It’s as if he plays the character not as a character, but himself, if that makes any sense😂😂😂. I believe him in every role he’s in. Sad that his career is coming to an end, but his legacy will always remain. Also, the way he talked about his faith and that picture…whew chills! God is so good!

What is playing himself ? Because he's not changing his voice and using some prosthesis/makeup to look different from his usual life doesn't mean he's playing himself (and he has done that too, his portrayal of Malcom X is arguably the best ever of a real life person).. Denzel Washington is exceptionally authentic, believable and honest as an actor, he can reach any character's mind, soul and emotions and bring it on screen with peerless realism and intensity. There is a reason he's considered to be the best by so many people in the industry. You watch him play the drunk pilot in Flight, 110% oscars worthy and believable, same if you watch him as the wrongfully imprisoned boxer Hurricane Carter, just mindblowing all the emotions and intensity he can bring on screen, same as the poor dad who try to find a heart for his son in John Q, same for so many others roles. He's so believable in any role, in any situation, sometimes without even changing his look and voice.
