Such a fantastic game once you get past the initial learn / rulebook. Definitely agree 100% with you, Rob about the time and effort. The first play or two will be disjointed and brainburny. Once it clicks though …. Just incredible. Hope you eventually pick up Legends because you would definitely enjoy the unique civs in that one.
I personally LOVE Imperium but I had a terrible time with the rulebook. I had to learn by watching videos. Each faction plays so different. I actually prefer this game solo. Definitely NEED to print out solo charts and laminate them.
I have both versions and I consider it a very clever design. I've only played it solo only and enjoyed it, but haven't been playing it lately because I have toomanygames disease. I agree 100 % with your comments on component quality, rulebook layout etc.. The development is poor. I tend to sleeve cards, especially if they are manipulated a lot. When I play it again I will probably sleeve the cards and just put them in baggies for each faction. Not a beautiful solution but it should work fine. Many developers are starting to realize some people sleeve cards, and will even sell them with the game to make a little extra money. However some developers seem to feel that "I don't sleeve cards, so it's not necessary".
weak Carthage ? NO, Carthage's hand is not counted (these are cards in cells) and the nation's card is also 5 vp. At the end of the game you forgot to take the mess a couple of times

The game is actually insanely good. Last a tad too long (could cut 20-30 mins), but dang... amazing solo or especially at 2.
