Thanks to this review tried 2 games of this at the local cafe. Then instantly bought it. So easy to learn but enough tough decisions to always make it interesting. Tried Paris and London. I love the idea of the different cities adding additional scoring rules and flavour. London is my favourite so far. Love the laundromatic machine card hehe. Cheers Zee.

I learned about the original Caper in one of your Top 10s a couple years ago and wanted to try it out based solely on your high praise of it but couldn’t find it anywhere so when I saw the Kickstarter for Caper Europe I backed it immediately. I was worried it wouldn’t be as good as the first one so I’m delighted that I’m not missing out on anything lol. I LOVE the art style. I only just got my copy but so far I really like it. 😁

Was about to buy this game but didn't realise it was a KS. Cant buy an inferior copy and the KS edition cannot be bought so guess I'll pass on this game instead. Shame 😓
Thank you for the brilliant review Zee. Now i know the perfect way how to explain the game to friends! 😅 I received my KS copy 2 weeks ago and played it 4 times since. The game truly is a piece of art like all Keymaster Games and i love it even more with each game played. Its perfectly streamlined and has a lot of depth and tactics "behind the scenes". A perfect 10!
We also backed Caper: Europe on the strength of your review of the original. Not sure that it's enough in my wheelhouse to give it 10/10 personally, but it's a lovely production and a great, tense, not-too-long two player game, so we're very pleased.
I think this is one of those games where it really depends with whom you are playing. I love the tactical nature of it, it's a smart design, and if who you are playing with is as invested as you are this can be great.
damn, I had h no idea it would be ranked this high. I had backed it and just got it a few weeks ago. I liked the them and it reminded me a bit of burgle brothers but it also looked nice. but that was the extent of my knowledge. Now, I"m glad that I backed and I look forward to trying it out.
This games deserves nothing less. The only negative someone might say is if the theme or style of game is not their taste, but that does not make the game bad. Literally nothing bad can be said about it. 11/10
Had the previous version and just couldn't understand why you loved it so much the constant admin and looking at the reference book to work out the symbology drove mad, sounds like those things may have been noticed though and fixed 🤷♂️
Doesn't it lose a bit of opacity with the simplification capers are counted versus the classic edition? I enjoyed the fact that one was never sure who was winning a location till the end... this instead makes it so obvious and transparent that it can get a bit chess like... am I right or am I wrong?
@@Kolvorok chess like is too strong a comparison, but you are right. It removes the opacity of capers. However, it makes the game better and more strategic in the end. Since you have the information on hand, you play less by "gut feeling" and can make more informed decisions... and so does your opponent. This is indeed a great edition.
How much are capers abilities present on cards though, it must be less swingy in order to keep the track manageable... do we have a full comparisons of old vs new cards, it seems to me the focus has shifted a bit to points while strong caper moves are less common. But I may be wrong...
Just got mine today. I actually like the old metal coins better than the ones that came with this. Aside from not loving the coins, It’s all very nice and Keymaster-y quality wise.

I have to say, this is the biggest Zee-recommended miss for me, ever. And I usually love what he loves. I can't help but wonder why we're so far apart on this one. I love the theme and production, but there's just no tension or excitement in it, like at all. I'm a big fan of heist movies and I guess somehow I was expecting some of the same from this, but it fell so incredibly flat. After the first play I re-read the rules thinking we must have played it wrong somehow, but nope. Tried it a couple more times and still nothing. I'll give it a couple more tries hoping somehow it'll come to me, but I'm not optimistic. What a shame.
This game is all about tension. Fighting for each location until the end. Each card played must be chosen wisely. Maybe it's just not for you, but the tension is all there.
Love the new lighting and camera angle. Not sure if you have a new mic or had a rough voice for the review, but you voice sounds like it has been modulated lower.
My version doesn't have metal coins. They are cardboard punch-outs. Always a drag when publishers downgrade quality mid-production. I'm amazed how frequently the quality you see in reviews isn't what you get in the box. Mini Rougue is a prime example.
My only complaints are the size of the new box and price. The old version is a nice game we take with us on trips. This box has way more then it needs to have and it increases the cost. I would like to play with the rebalanced cards and like they put the thieves ability on top of the card. But if they don't release a slimed down version I will skip this
The rule book had some funny typos. Also in the example section they opted for gender neutral pronouns, which people have been reporting as very confusing 😅. Otherwise it appears to be getting very high praise from everyone!
Great production, but was really annoyed it didn't accommodate sleeved cards. Just leaving a few millimeters is all that is needed, but publishers want you to damage components.

Wow, 10/10! I just played it the first time and we almost did everything right. The non deluxe has card stock coins.

My wife got this game off of Kickstarter. It's so much fun. We love it.
Did you get the playmat? Really good quality and its excellent with other games as well with its neutral flipside

I almost backed this on Kickstarter but didn't...aww shucks!
Retail version is coming out this year and it's much cheaper so you may have lucked out depending on how you feel about bling out games
