Ladies and gentlemen, the last of the real stars from when a time the actors actually knew there lines and could do an entire set of dialogue without an edit or refuse shot. For me, I love his work in “Best Years”. These old movies are my escape from this crazy world we are now in here at the end of 2024.
I hope Mr Andrew’s knew how beloved he was and is by the classic movie fans. We recognized his immense talent and contributions. Yes Sir! The 1941 film Swamp Water is one of my favorites too. It is full of true magical Southern swamp atmosphere plus a great story.
I have huge respect for the Andrews men...Dana..AND his kid brother Steve Forrest, who wrote me a most encouraging letter when I was a struggling writer so many years ago..Dana also did a PA for the National Council on Alcoholism, one of the very first to speak openly about the subject. His own struggles, making them public - something that was not done back in the day. Very brave of him, when you think about it. Along with BEST YEARS, and LAURA...I was also deeply moved by Dana's portrayal as one of the doomed trio in OX BOW INCIDENT, which is well worth watching. It explores the question of innocence...and how easily one can be fooled by circumstance and, make the wrong decisions...Mr. Andrews died of Alzheimer's, bless him. RIP.
What an enjoyable interview! The first time I saw a picture with Dana Andrews (3 years ago, I had never heard of him, he’s long long before my time), he made such an impression on me I had to look him up and start watching anything I could find with him in it. His real life decency/high moral standards shine through on the screen.

Great leading man. Seems like quite a self-effacing man. Very likable. Laura and The Ox-Bow Incident and that great scene with the aircraft like ghosts behind him in The Best Years Of Our Lives is really something.
Agree, he was a wonderful actor. And later, when he stopped drinking (he was sober for the last 20 years of his life), he did a public service announcement on TV (for the Dept. of Transportation, about not drinking and driving), to help others. Good man.
Watching Laura for my 1st time on Amazon ( I bought it knowing it was a good movie). As I often do on Amazon Prime, looking at the cast and trivia etc and found Dana’s info interesting. His life story in his details on Amazon prime. Side note, Studio City represent ! I’ve lived here since 96’ and saw he lived here. HAD to see a interview of him. This my 1st one I saw. Great interview, LOVED hearing him talk. Thank you for posting this interview on UA-cam. I’m 55 by the way. Take care.
Superb. Dana had an interesting role in the radio business during the early years of the Cold War. The show was called "I was a Communist for the FBI." Fascinating show that Dana really mastered. As to this interview, it was great. Dana described how he got his first film role in The Westerner, which was a wonderful film starring Cooper and Brennan. Dana had a very small (but credited) speaking role, about 30 seconds, in the film and it was memorable enough to leave an impression. I believe young Forest Tucker also had a role in that film.
I have never seen any movies that Dana Andrews was in that were bad I mean not the movie but him. I loved him in Elephant Walk with Elizabeth Taylor. To name a few and especially Loria. He was Great!!!!
What a wonderful man. A perfect example of solid old movie character actor.
I've been watching old movies since the mid-1960's. Dana Andrews has always been one of my favorite actors. He had such a wonderful voice!
Most decent man who ever came out of Hollywood. Great actor.
Lovely actor and gentleman. I don’t think we will see actors such as Dana Andrews again. That time for me has now gone forever.❤️
Best Years of Our Lives is the best movie ever.
Absolutely! I have watched, The Best Years of Our Lives, countless times, and I will continue to watch it frequently!
Agree 100%. Have watched it so many times I have lost count. He was wonderful in the role of Fred Derry.
Jim Whaley was 34 here, he died 10 years later of a heart attack. He was a gentle great interviewer, let his subjects talk.
I’m so sorry he’s not around to hear my kudos for him as an excellent interviewer
How sad !
So young !
What a shame 😢😢😢😢😢

Yes, The Ox-Bow Incident explores the question of innocence etc as you have so well-said. I've remembered it all through life. Well said sir.
A gentleman in demeanor. Nicely dressed. Beautiful, manly voice. Intelligent.
His voice never changed over the years, and his face only a little. Only the color of his hair!

I watch everything he was in !!

Dana was an outstanding actor. He had his demons with alcohol but it is really hard not to like any movie he is in.
He was good actor. He invested his roles with total commitment. Was very moved by his standout in Best Years of our Lives.
Agree, he was a wonderful actor. And later, when he stopped drinking (he was sober for the last 20 years of his life), he did a public service announcement on TV (for the Dept. of Transportation, about not drinking and driving), to help others. Good man.
He introduces Dana Andrews as 'a fine actor'. He was a great, outstanding actor you fool. A big star.
What a class act!
I saw Laura as a girl in the 50’s and fell in love with it! Named my daughter after the song.
So he was about 72 here. Looked and sounded great ❤
I wish the interview had been two hours long.
I wouldn't have minded a longer interview, too. There aren't too many of Dana Andrews. He was quite the gentleman. A quality not seen anymore.
Great actor and an interesting interview.
Great actor. Lovely interview 😊👍

Dana❤❤❤
I Love Dana Andrews!
What an outstanding actor they don't make actors like dana anymore like Charlton Heston there were these few that had absolute stage presence
He is the forties

Great in fallen angel
I believe that film had the first open mouth kiss ever in a Hollywood movie Mr. Andrews & Linda Darnell.
Actors just slap on T-shirts and Jeans. Dana's generation? Style.
Dana Andrew’s in Best Years of Our Lives made the movie, imo. Although, all actors in the movie were fantastic.
❤❤❤
He made a great horror movie in England the night of the demon
I really like him in “Laura” and “State Fair” but he was all at sea in “Enchanted Island”, a real dud that ended the film career of Jane Powell.
RIP DANA ANDREWS!
Terriffic actor.
THE WAR MOVIE "DANA" WAS TRYING TO THINK OF IS "FLAT TOP" (1952)❗❗ GREAT IN "LAURA", SO WAS "GT"👌👌✔✔👍👍❗❗❗❗
VERY INTERESTING ABOUT THAT 300,000 DOLLAR SCAM👍👍👍👍😁😁😁😁
IT WAS NOT "FLAT TOP", IT WAS "A WING AND A PRAYER" (1944)❗❗😁😁
❤❤❤
