I met Mr. Andrews about forty five years ago. He and his wife were performing in Gaslight in Fabens, Texas outside of El Paso at a dinner theater. He was very nice and thanked us for attending the performance.
What an exceptional actor. How Frederick March was chosen as best actor over Dana Andrews for Best ears of Our Lives is beyond my comprehension. The fact that he put down the alcohol and found a new career besides acting, shows real character.
Interesting . . I thought everybody was good in that one. Yet now I discover Andrews was not even nominated. OUCH . . BYoOL cleaned up at the Oscars . . Yeah, maybe there's something going on there.
I’m a Fredric March fan. March won the Best Actor Oscar for The Best Years of Our Lives. However, I think that Dana Andrews, not March, should have won that award. Andrews gave a brilliant, believable performance. He was a great actor who never got the recognition he deserved.
One of my first crushes!! I loved the film Laura. It had a huge impact on me when I first saw it. Gene Tierney was beautiful and Dana a hunk... My mum went weak at the knees when he was on TV. She taught me well. I was oblivious to his issues but that's what Hollywood wanted us to think.
I liked him, especially in Jaques Tourneur's "Night of the Demon" 1958. Apparently he was drunk most of the time doing that film, but there's no sign of that onscreen.
How ironic you pick Dana Andrews'Laura was my mom's favorite movie my mom passed away Nov 6 2022 I really miss her I'm so sad without her like Dana Andrews I'm also Barreling the booze my mom loved to watch the movie Laura on rainy days There isn't a day go by I don't cry over my mother's Death thank you for this On Dana Andrews
One of my favorite actors of the Golden Age of Hollywood along with Humphrey Bogart, Robert Mitchum, and Jimmy Stewart. He was great in the Best Years of Our Lives and Laura. He played the vulnerable hero or antihero well.
My mom met him as a child in Texas, before his family moved to Huntsville Tx. His father was a baptist preacher in Uvalde Tx and preached at the little country church at Reagan Wells Tx 30 miles north. Dana’s father after the sermon came to my grandmother’s home for dinner and Dana and a brother were along . His dad the Baptist preacher was also a supporter of the KKK ( as were most rightwing racist Baptist) . Dana was 2 yrs older than her . He was a wonderful actor and outgrew his father’s bigotry.
Love Dana Andrew's, thanks so much. Glad he lived into old age. Exciting and successful journey. I had no idea about real-estate. Laura is one of my all time favorite films.😊
Dana "the best years of our lives". Brilliant. Better than most in his generation. Dana surely is a girl! No, that is what I always thought. Starts on the back foot. As I said better than most.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dana when I was about 4 months old, that's when he became my Godfather. While growing up in California, I would visit him on several occasions and he took me to the various studios and I got to meet lots of neat actors and see the various film sets.
Ive got about 10 of his movies and I agree he's very engaging in them especialy the spy dramas I quite like him he's up there with Tyrone Powers, and Robert Taylor for me he very underrated and a shame his drinking problem, didnt he have 4 kids, Katharine born 1942 Mother Mary Todd, Stephen born 1944 mother Mary Todd , Susan born 1948 mother Mary Todd, and David born 1933 died 1964 motherJanet Murray
@Elvis left the building, Where did you hear that? Keep in mind in the Hollywood heydays, drinking was the typical activity after work for many in Mr. Andrews' generation. "Getting together for a coupla drinks" was socially acceptable, more so than today. It is easy to look at the past with 20/20 vision and criticize. I submit most people are doing the best they can to live a good life balancing work and play. Almost all humans are imperfect works in progress. I do not excuse or accept domestic violence by any means; I simply suggest we dislike the sin, comfort the victims of abuse, and ask/insist that those who inflict harm to adopt a means to heal, and to make amends. Thank God for Bill W. who founded AA. The 12 Step Program has the highest success rate of any treatment available.

Thank you! 🙂
I heard Dana Andrews had difficulty with prunes.
A fine actor who also sobered up and spread the Message

My father was in the Navy on a Sub in Key West Florida. On January 11 1951 he met Dana while they were on location shooting Frogmen.

I never could figure that out, either. Nothing against Frederic March, but Dana Andrews was better.

"The Best Years of Our Lives" it is an incredible moving film and Dana's best work.
I Loved the film “Laura” with Gene Tierney, Clifton Webb and, of course, DANA ANDREWS; had a very haunting and evocative theme song.
Dana is one of my favorite stars and people. Thank you for telling Dana's whole story of Dana's recovery.
He had a very compelling presence, very masculine.
He died exactly on my birthday, that is why I always watch Laura as a tradition then. (The other reason I love this movie is the gorgeos Gene Tierney)
Yea i have heard of him. Thanks for his story. It was fascinating.
I liked him, especially in Jaques Tourneur's "Night of the Demon" 1958. Apparently he was drunk most of the time doing that film, but there's no sign of that onscreen.

You shine splendidly at these dignified and respectful biographies; your regal voice and measured speech give them weight and meaning.
Your channel is a wonderful find for me! Well done!
Yet he was a very good actor.
Dana was sorta handsome in the early years. But now that I learned about his alcoholism, I see why he looked so different and old before his time.
Dana "the best years of our lives". Brilliant. Better than most in his generation. Dana surely is a girl! No, that is what I always thought. Starts on the back foot. As I said better than most.
He deserved an Oscar for that movie!
AA and other self-help groups were just developing when he got the problem. If he had discovered one of these self-help groups he could of beat it.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dana when I was about 4 months old, that's when he became my Godfather. While growing up in California, I would visit him on several occasions and he took me to the various studios and I got to meet lots of neat actors and see the various film sets.
he was also an outstanding radio actor
A good actor. I personally liked his films .
the photo at 0:24 is not Dana Andrews
It's William Campbell
Ive got about 10 of his movies and I agree he's very engaging in them especialy the spy dramas I quite like him he's up there with Tyrone Powers, and Robert Taylor for me he very underrated and a shame his drinking problem, didnt he have 4 kids, Katharine born 1942 Mother Mary Todd, Stephen born 1944 mother Mary Todd , Susan born 1948 mother Mary Todd, and David born 1933 died 1964 motherJanet Murray
LOVED him!
Me too. One of my favourites.
His best was in the "My Life as a Communist for the FBI" on radio.
I like him so much.
The actor from @:26-30 is not Dana Andrews.
Yes, I noticed that too.
Hot Rods to Hell was a low point
0:25 That's Caryl Chessman.
The photo at 0:25 is not Andrews.
robert stack
William Campbell in Cellblock 2144?
Was that William Campbell?
Yes ... For some reason.
@@peterkelley7160 yeah,,, this channel is not all that accurate sometimes...
A great great actor, with a great filmography, although brief in time. He could have had an important career but his alcoholism simply prevented it.
👍
Good actor but often came off as rigid, solemn.
Knocked Women around 😡

Well said.
@ginnamin. I don't think so.
I found him annoying and unattractive onscreen but props for fighting the bottle instead of succumbing to it,
