I met Mr. Andrews about forty five years ago. He and his wife were performing in Gaslight in Fabens, Texas outside of El Paso at a dinner theater. He was very nice and thanked us for attending the performance.

What an exceptional actor. How Frederick March was chosen as best actor over Dana Andrews for Best ears of Our Lives is beyond my comprehension. The fact that he put down the alcohol and found a new career besides acting, shows real character.

I never could figure that out, either. Nothing against Frederic March, but Dana Andrews was better.

Interesting . . I thought everybody was good in that one. Yet now I discover Andrews was not even nominated. OUCH . . BYoOL cleaned up at the Oscars . . Yeah, maybe there's something going on there.

I’m a Fredric March fan. March won the Best Actor Oscar for The Best Years of Our Lives. However, I think that Dana Andrews, not March, should have won that award. Andrews gave a brilliant, believable performance. He was a great actor who never got the recognition he deserved.

One of my first crushes!! I loved the film Laura. It had a huge impact on me when I first saw it. Gene Tierney was beautiful and Dana a hunk... My mum went weak at the knees when he was on TV. She taught me well. I was oblivious to his issues but that's what Hollywood wanted us to think.

I Loved the film “Laura” with Gene Tierney, Clifton Webb and, of course, DANA ANDREWS; had a very haunting and evocative theme song.

He died exactly on my birthday, that is why I always watch Laura as a tradition then. (The other reason I love this movie is the gorgeos Gene Tierney)

I liked him, especially in Jaques Tourneur's "Night of the Demon" 1958. Apparently he was drunk most of the time doing that film, but there's no sign of that onscreen.

One of my favorite actors of the Golden Age of Hollywood along with Humphrey Bogart, Robert Mitchum, and Jimmy Stewart. He was great in the Best Years of Our Lives and Laura. He played the vulnerable hero or antihero well.

My mom met him as a child in Texas, before his family moved to Huntsville Tx. His father was a baptist preacher in Uvalde Tx and preached at the little country church at Reagan Wells Tx 30 miles north. Dana’s father after the sermon came to my grandmother’s home for dinner and Dana and a brother were along . His dad the Baptist preacher was also a supporter of the KKK ( as were most rightwing racist Baptist) . Dana was 2 yrs older than her . He was a wonderful actor and outgrew his father’s bigotry.

Dana "the best years of our lives". Brilliant. Better than most in his generation. Dana surely is a girl! No, that is what I always thought. Starts on the back foot. As I said better than most.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dana when I was about 4 months old, that's when he became my Godfather. While growing up in California, I would visit him on several occasions and he took me to the various studios and I got to meet lots of neat actors and see the various film sets.

      @Elvis left the building,
      Where did you hear that?
Keep in mind in the Hollywood heydays, drinking was the typical activity after work for many in Mr. Andrews' generation. "Getting together for a coupla drinks" was socially acceptable, more so than today.
It is easy to look at the past with 20/20 vision and criticize.
I submit most people are doing the best they can to live a good life balancing work and play.
Almost all humans are imperfect works in progress.
I do not excuse or accept domestic violence by any means; I simply suggest we dislike the sin, comfort the victims of abuse, and ask/insist that those who inflict harm to adopt a means to heal, and to make amends.
Thank God for Bill W. who founded AA.
The 12 Step Program has the highest success rate of any treatment available.
