- Legendary westerns actor, John Wayne, has died. He was 72 years old.
Marion Michael Morrison (born Marion Robert Morrison; May 26, 1907 - June 11, 1979), known professionally as John Wayne and nicknamed Duke, was an American actor, director, producer and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient. He was among the top box office draws for three decades, famous for his roles in Western films.
Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa, but grew up in Southern California. He lost a football scholarship to the University of Southern California as a result of a bodysurfing accident, and began working for the Fox Film Corporation. He appeared mostly in small parts, but his first leading role came in Raoul Walsh's Western The Big Trail (1930), an early widescreen film epic which was a box-office failure. Leading roles followed in numerous B movies during the 1930s, most of them also Westerns, without becoming a major name. It was John Ford's Stagecoach (1939) that made Wayne a mainstream star, and he starred in 142 motion pictures altogether. According to one biographer, "John Wayne personified for millions the nation's frontier heritage."
I saw this special report back when it first aired. I was stunned. I was in University at the time. In addition to his Oscar in 1969 for "True Grit." he earned many other awards, including The People's Choice Award for Favorite Male Actor in 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, and 1978. Despite his crusade against Communism in the American film industry he went against his family and friends advice and starred in "True Grit." They had a problem with screenwriter Marguerite Roberts, who had been blacklisted from 1951 to 1960 because she refused to turn over names of Communists working in Hollywood to the HUAAC. Wayne did it because he felt that the script was too good not to use. All these decades later his films still endure.
Best Honest Mentor of All Time!
A Real Man, dont see them Anymore!
God bless the DUKE💥🍻
Well never see another like John Wayne.
@@stevelindstedt8858 Clint Eastwood and Chuck Norris are the only closely to another John Wayne.
I can't stand to hear Chuck Norris talk though lol His first line in one of those expendable movies seemed so out of place with the other actors like Stallone etc
We need another Duke badly. But there's none in sight.
The Best
And to think the nit wits call him all kinds of things, take his name off the airport, knock him off his podium, all for PC,I SAY HE WAS AMERICAN ALL THE WAY,AS DID THE WORLD

No, he dodged the draft
@@suspicioususer in my opinion the ULTIMATE chickenhawk....
@@suspicioususer He did not dodge the draft, he registered and was deferred because of his age (34) and had a wife and 4 dependents.
He never dodged anything,, but there hasn't been a world War11 yet.
@@aaamenpreacher3 You are correct!! The John Wayne haters are a miserable little group aren't they?

R.I.P. 💯🇺🇸🦅🗽⚔️
The Duke would be ashamed on how this great country is going through. We need more John Waynes in this country.
He was a racist 🤦🏾♀️
@@beautifulsaglady6795 no he wasn't. Who was he racist against?

I love you and miss you so much. My dad and I have so many memories of watching all your movies. My dad and I to this day still have a love for all u have done and every Thanksgiving we have a marathon of your western Flix. Thanks for all the memories.
44 years since this great actor and great man died and it can still make me feel sad. John Wayne definitely left his mark on the world.
John Wayne is one of my favorite actors of all time. I felt so bad for him, what I’m really thinking about is I want to find out where did they buried John Wayne and I want to go and put some flowers down. But what I usually like to do is write down Smoke letters and burn it into the fire even if he’s dead he will still remember what I Wrote to him 😢😢😢😢
Best cowboy ever
He made over 300 films my dad reckons ,in his early days he made 3-4 films a year sometimes more ,low budget westerns mostly ,look for those early films and you will find a very energetic John Whayne,
I found out about his death reading the Stars and Stripes publication at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan.
My hero growing up was John Wayne. As was my mother's. Being English, not quite the same resonance as USA but unbelievably relevant now I think. American or English, we need a strong figure to look to.
John Wayne was more complex and nuanced than a hero or a villain he was a man that stared in films for hard working Americans and he is more then the worst or best things he has said or done
You couldnt dream of being half the man and patriot he was
some people on this Earth do not deserve too die. John Wayne is one of them. R.I.P. MR. Wayne.
I worked for Dukes best friend and Dukes is actually buried on Chicks family site next to Chicks son who died in a car accident a few years before! The Duke was the best cowboy that was ever in a movie and he stood for something which is totally lacking today! Respect for self and others!
when i was a kid John Wayne was my favorit cowboy
Something changed in the world with the passing of John Wayne......
i got to meet the duke at old tucson when they were filming rio lobo he was a real down to earth guy back in 1970
Dead ?? The hell i am !
My grandad loved this man we used to watch all his old movies together during the 70s great days
He wasn't perfect, but he was one of the greatest!
Happy trails
There will never be another to compare to John Wayne. He was the real cowboy. RIP DUKE
We just don't make them like this anymore. Bless him, i miss him amd what he represented to the cultural identity.
There are only a few times in my life that I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when a news worthy event happened. When the Duke passed was one of them.
"An unremarkable athletic career at USC..." He was an offensive lineman for the Trojans football team. Offensive linemen don't get much credit, do they? He got injured and they revoked his scholarship.
It’s March 20 2024. Let’s pray Donald John Trump takes the lead and MAGA 🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
I used to work with the Wayne family, and believe me, if he were here today, Duke would punch Trump right in the mouth.
@@johannahsghostAnd yet, true or untrue your story, D. T. is the best President of the last decades just from facts and numbers alone.
An American legend!
He was actually a great actor. Just watch Red River, The Quiet Man, and The Searchers. As good as any performances in history.

He only wore the wig when a picture was taken or when he was in a movie or on a tv show. Was he buried or cremated?
