I've been teaching art at high school (and lately from home) for years, and this video sums it all up better than anything else I've found! Thanks so much!
I've just fallen in love with art and am trying to wrap my head around it all - almost trying to catch up and wishing I had taken classes. Thank you for the introduction, you are a lovely speaker and describe the concepts beautifully. Looking forward to more!
This was so excellent. Your passion and excitement about art is evident in your expression and it draws the audience in to enjoy your content. Thank you!
Hello Alder, good video!! I skipped the Art History as my GE when I was in college....kind of regret it now. Maybe I should take an art history class at a community college something like that.
Thank you very much. I''m glad I found you. I appreciate your condense downloads too. Only do we have to keep writing your emails and names for every single download?
Excellent video. Very easy to follow. Thanks a lot for the beautiful, well-made, informative video. The rest of your channel is on my view list now! Many thanks!!
Hi! Yes, in future videos I plan to dive into various "isms" movements, and I can do an overview of all the "isms" in one video. Great suggestion! For now, here are a few of my current videos that touch on the "isms": Impressionism art characteristics - ua-cam.com/video/GPFe5lBdAjU/v-deo.html Neoclassicism overview - ua-cam.com/video/ZZpsakljOAQ/v-deo.html Napoleon Crossing the Alps (a Neoclassicism artwork) - ua-cam.com/video/-XBSTTELH2k/v-deo.html Oath of the Horatii (a Neoclassicism artwork) - ua-cam.com/video/B__HKFGOh7s/v-deo.html Raft of the Medusa (a Romanticism artwork) - ua-cam.com/video/dGOxsCjRbys/v-deo.html The Starry Night and Vincent Van Gogh (Post-Impressionism) - ua-cam.com/video/7O-5XkH6pnw/v-deo.html Guernica by Picasso (Cubism and Surrealism) - ua-cam.com/video/BRv2Ab-kVPI/v-deo.html Hope this helps for now!
Great overview of a lot of information, well done! Personally I like Modernism a lot, though often for the implications more than the art itself. In terms of aesthetic appeal I'd have to say Romanticism might be my favorite
One thing came in my mind while I was listening to you that we are living and serving as middle ages so contemporary is actually middle ages of modern times.
what an amazing video, im trying to learn more about art history and in my quest for an overview i found your video. great content pls pls keep up the good work. sending love from mexico
This is soo helpful. Great job. I'd love to learn more about subsections of these periods but in a timeline format so we can watch them evolve through history
I love your channel 😍 Art history what's my favorite topic in Fashion School. I lost my text books back in 2007. Any suggestions on textbooks to buy ? Want to study art again 😃
Thanks, I am glad you love it 😊 Gardner's and Stokstad art history textbooks are my favorite. A video on the best art history textbooks is one I will put on my list!
4:30 you are missing indian art of this time like moin jo daro, mahar garh, harappa, ajanta alora, gandhara and many other sites. Indus valley civilization is oldest then mesopotamia.
"People didn't know how to read." It's actually a misconception that people in the Middle Ages couldn't read. What is true is that most people in the Middle Ages didn't know how to read and write in Latin, because that was the official language of the Catholic Church. If you couldn't do that, you were considered illiterate. However, many, many people knew the Roman alphabet phonetically. They knew what sounds each character stood for, and they used that. I'll let our good friend Shad Brooks explain: ua-cam.com/video/kISM2od3BJ0/v-deo.html
This really is history of Art in General. But from greece to Rome Next she only Talk about europe so I think she put Western in the title or else people will complain about the lack of Chinese or indian or african Art ecc… but before the West was Born it’s cool to see what humans were doing! Also ancient europeans did Cave painting too! I live near modern switzerland and we have Cave paintings from the neolithic also in France there are ecc…
Honestly i‘m a little disappointed with this video. Especially how you talk about the medieval. You literally reinforce stereotypes which are not true while you also idolise ancient times. And with this oversimplification, one-sided portrayal and wrong judgements, i hope people don‘t take this video too seriously!
Hope you enjoyed! What is your favorite period from western art history?
The prehistoric is so intriguing to me! Like you said there had to be reason they created.
@@stephaniejashinsky5669 it makes me feel like there is some innate desire for humans to create or leave their mark on the world
Renaissance of course art was actually art at that time or may be I can't get this contemporary art. Though I am a contemporary artist 🤣
@@ArtHistorywithAlder You left your mark on the world by being the living breathing masterpiece that you are..🖌️

The problem that you have is the non literal non sense in the littered into the explaination of art history.
