Thanks for posting this. As 3 year PPL considering IFR this was a great way to get an overview. Amazing how fast things change, currency via simulation, for example.

An instrument pilot is NOT necessarily more proficient than a higher time VFR pilot. You do not need the IR if you are not going to fly in IMC (or fly for pay). For example, to maintain IR currency, § 61.57(c)(1)(i) specifies that an IR pilot must conduct and log a minimum of 6 IAPs (Instrument Approach Procedures) every 6 months. This can be done in IMC, or under hood with a safety pilot (the safety pilot signs your log book). Getting a safety pilot to go up with you can be a pain. Waiting for IMC to do the approaches can also be both risky and a pain. Every pilot should be constantly studying and staying current and flying as often as possible to maintain skill and confidence.

How you counts the glider hours as PIC cross country? For the 50 hours pic What I understand Is that the cross country mean fly to different airport with at less 100 NM away!
    ThanksOz

Ronald Marshall you can’t they are one at a time unless you go to the navy or military aviation

Actually, you can do both simultaneously. However, the pass rate on the check ride is extremely low due to the immense difficulty and length of time for the oral and flight portions. In the back of the ACS, you will see the details regarding doing both simultaneously.

I would like to see you address what you CAN/CANNOT do with a rating. ie: what does it mean by not permitted to fly into forecast icing conditions? Everyone I talk to says, look at pireps. I think that may be old school thinking and this has changed. Basically in Wisconsin, if you haven't done your approaches in actual before mid October, there will be little actual you can fly until March/April. If there are clouds and the temps are at or below freezing, there will be ice. So you would have to do it with a safety pilot. That is how I lost currency and just bagged it for many years. Thinking of getting current, but I recall the regs. used to say "flight into known icing not permitted" whereas it is now "flight into forecast or known icing prohibited." Shed some light.

jimflys2 Flight into known icing (aka FIKI) is NOT a privilege granted to an airman, it's a level of certification for an aircraft. If you're flying an airplane that is not certified for FIKI, meaning it does not have anti-ice or de-ice capabilities for the prop(s), windshield and leading edges of wings, and stabilizers, you cannot fly into KNOWN icing conditions. PS- DO NOT fly into icing conditions in anything smaller than a King Air.

I was enjoying the information from the first few minutes. Need to let people know to turn off their camera. I had to stop watching once the guy started petting his cat on camera.
