    That's the thing about Civivi which I miss from domestic makers.
    They don't reinvent the wheel.
    Actually, their knives are as vanilla as they can get.
    And that's perfect.
    They take proven designs, put them into an attractive no-nonsense package and make them available to everyone.
    It's not some maker being on a personal mission to do their own thing.
    Nor is it a company trying to stand out.
    It's useful knives made beautifully and affordable.

    Sorry for the second post but I've fixed Jimping issues like that before with a very fine triangle or bladed file, you'd be amazed how close you will get it to look if you take your time. A set of hobby files isn't a big expense and they give a lot more control than rotary cutting tools.

    Nicely done bro. I really dig mine (same one shown). I got it cuz I had the OG Rustic Gent(same handle).
    P.S if you don't have a small rattail file,maybe try an old serrated beater as a fine file! GL

    Digging the traditional style of knife, very much a gent knife or something an older man might have in his pocket but with newer materials. Jimping whichever way you do it make sure you test it out on a garbage knife first to make sure you get the results you want cause if you screw it up you will not want to carry it anymore lol. Keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

    I'm glad companies are making locking versions of their slip joints. I just ordered the Reel Steel GFrame. This will be next. I just wish the blade was 3.3 or 3.5 inches.

    Yep shallow jimping, my only real complaint. I cut it deeper with a diamond file. Doesn't look perfect but it works better.

    I picked up the red and black carbon fiber with the Damascus and love it. Fanciest looking knife I own, it's beautiful! My first Civivi Damascus. I usually stay away from Damascus from any knife maker mainly because you have no way of knowing the steel they use and they seldom tell you. I bought this one mainly because of you speaking so highly of Civivi's Damascus.
    I also have the slip joint version, bought when it first launched.
    Good review as always and fully agree with the on the liner lock access. But my jimping seems a bit better than yours. Might be a one-off?

    • @jameshealy4594
      @jameshealy4594 3 роки тому

      I'm addicted to telling people this, but if you have a buffing wheel and some green compound you can very easily take off the blackening/patina and end up with an almost mirror finish with very subtle damascus pattern still visible. It's easy enough that you could do it by hand in maybe an hour. If you're keen I'd start under the bolsters so you can see what it looks like first.

    Had my new drifter 2 in my hand when I found this vid.
    Awesome knife and totally agree about all the points made.
    I havent gotten the spidey flick yet, but that's my own limitation.
    I also am thinking to slightly open up the liner lock cutout on the micarta because that straight edgedoes give me some trouble unlocking it.
    Im hesitating because I want to have exactly the right dremel bit and the opening will cross the 2 materials of micarta and the carbon fiber.
    Maybe I will wait to see the Neeves method first?
    Great great knife.

    you could probably cut the jimping with a jewelers/needle file. even the cheap sets work pretty well and are extremely thin & easy to control.

  • @MountainFisher
    @MountainFisher 3 роки тому

    That is a nice looking knife, I like the way they did the hollow grind and a mix of a drop/clip point a drop, but with a touch of upsweep. Hard to tell which, but it is good looking. The Micarta looks good to except that one spot.
    There are some sharpening/deburring stones (I have one) called slip stones that taper from 3 mm/.118 down to .2 mm/.008 that I use for micro repairs to jimping like your knife has. It is an India AO stone I acquired from the tool crib at my bio/engineer job. I slowly but surely built up a nice sharpening stone collection over the years. Now a slip stone can be taken down to .004 using a fine diamond that matches the grit or finer of the slip stone (Important point), but you need to keep the whole edge in contact with the diamond to prevent unevenness. If the edge becomes uneven it can be difficult to keep a straight line. Obviously you need to use a good honing or cutting oil and because the edge of the stone is so thin you must use light pressure or it can break.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 роки тому

      Yeah I have a stone collection I'm pretty proud of, I loved the journey using all different kinds of stones, some of which I'm very passionate about like my knives

    I cannot figure out for the life of me how to reverse flick this. I can thumb flick and use the flipper with thumb or pointer finger, no problem. Seeing how easy it is to reverse flick, I think it's just a "me" problem lol. Love the knife-I have it in damascus with carbon fiber/burgundy G10. Perfect aesthetic as I like small, traditional knives and also love the elegant colors. But also agree about the liner lock. It actually hurts me after a few times, which makes it less fidgety for me since I can't keep going for as long as I might want to.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  9 місяців тому

      Put the knife in your hand at an angle with all your finger spread wide out with a fully open hand, then curl your thumb in over knife slightly low on the handle but not to low, with your 4 fingers spread out curl just your middle finger in putting nail or finger in the nick or fuller and add a bit of pressure then flick like your flicking a bean. If you can get something with a hole it's a lot easier to learn on
