Beautiful fouettés from everyone, from Tyler Peck too. Those NYC Ballet arms, though... I really don't like them.
Yes to more analysis, please! 💖🩰

Thank you so much for this video! Personally I find the russian fouettés easier to do because of less movements. Oftentimes if I do the front-side I would lose my upright position and lean forward, which then makes me fall out of my fouettes😅

I love this, thank you so much for this video. I used to get confused by my different ballet teachers, telling me to do one way then the other. You are so knowledgable, and kind.

It was astonishing to see the difference of the front-side-in fouettés of Sylvie with beautiful passé and pointed feet and the same version of Tyler with the over crossed foot… Sylvie, Darcey and Ekaterina Maximova were ahead of their time! Bravas 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 15:47

As an audience, I much prefer the 'directly to side' way than the 'front to side' way. Especially when it's done cleanly and sharply, the way people like Svetlana Zakharova or Maria Khoreva do it. I remember watching Maria Khoreva's graduation exam and even hearing the whooshing sound when she was doing fouettes, because she does it so precisely. In roles like Black Swan and Kitri, the Russian way is more effective too, because it looks more fierce ❤

Yea both Svetlana and Maria are the Russian school so it sounds like you prefer Russian ❤

“She” in the first video is Merrill Ashley, a significant ballerina from NYCB. This should be acknowledged. Her performance of Ballo Della Regina is masterful and I believe she was the original dancer and inspiration for Mr. Balanchine for this ballet.

Great! Thanks for letting me know. I was wondering who it was 😊 she’s beautiful 🤩

Merrill Ashley was one of the last ballerinas to train directly under George Balanchine. She is indeed one of the “ballet greats” of the 70s and 80s, and you’re correct - Merrill Ashley was the ballerina on whom Ballo Della Regina was created.
I do find it odd that Merrill Ashley was used in a video to demonstrate fouettes. She was never a natural turner. Merrill Ashley was known most of all for her speed and precision in equal measure.

Evelina Godunova is one of the few Russian ballerinas does the most extreme version of releve seconde.
Svetlana Zakharova is the best example of plie seconde.
Many ballerinas are in a spectrum in-between where they're half way up to releve when reaching seconde.
So long as the dancer reaches a nice seconde with pointed feet, it's fine. The issue is that many dancers never reach seconde and begin pulling in when they only extended to the front.

Ekaterina Maximova was way ahead of her time. Legendary from my Большой Театр and the OG of fouettés with hands on hips.
For me, with long arms and legs and training in Moscow Academy, straight to the side was a natural choice then and now!🇵🇹🇧🇷🇷🇴🇷🇺🇺🇦🩰 5:14

I like floating and not jerky fuettes so Checceti for me. Nunez does very interesting fuettes with a big leg movement almost from one side to the other. I think the big leg movement makes fuettes what they are, otherwise they look a bit like "opened pirouettes" if that makes sense 😅

what's the disadvantage of learning both styles? They seem both are reasonable movements and have their own places in ballet. My favorite is Darsey bussell's version, it looks effortless and less sporty-ish.

    • @balletwithisabella
      @balletwithisabella  6 місяців тому +5

It's fine to learn both style but the fouetté styles are apart of a system. So if you have spent 10 years doing the side version. Switching after that wouldn't make sense as it isn't how you have trained. Then it's hard to expand on that, do some doubles, play with the virtuoso :-)

thank you so much for the video! it's very helpful. I am trying to do front side in, but struggling. Based on your advise, I will try to hold the retire longer and open in efface. Will let you know! LOL

I really prefer too see the fouettes front-side, the fouettes directly to the side looks a little bit meesy for me, and also more easy to do
