    Nice demo, mate! We're definitely of very different school in guitar playing (and me being technically a bad player), but this made me a very clear picture of what this pedal is capable of. I'm also impressed by your very clean and tasteful playing, kudos!

    Good review, I like it!
    And your Victory V40 "The Duchess" is amazing!
    I could buy one used for about 700€ (Euros), seems that the only issue is the "High preheat" writing partially cancelled by a tough cleaning.
    Do you suggest to buy it?
    Does it takes pedals (especially overdrives and distortions) so well for live shows with high volumes?

      Thanks for the nice comment! I really like this amp. Also got mine used for about this price and it's been my main amp for about 1 year now. It is designed to take pedals well, so yes, most drives, distortions, and fuzzes you throw at it sound fantastic. I play outdoors a lot and I had a Peavey Classic 20MH, which is also a great amp for pedals, but 20W was a bit on the limit for the outdoors gigs. The V40 has way more clean volume and the cleans sound fatter, richer, and smoother. I play with a big band with a brass section, drums, bass, keys, some 15-20 ppl and I made myself heard playing clean even unmic'ed. Sometimes I wish it was a bit brighter, but throwing a Klon or bright boost on top of it usually solves it 👌🏼

      @@TheBedroomRocker1 So this little head could be my next buy :)
      Whick cabinet and speakers did you match?
      And I'd like to make you this second question, I hope I don't bother you...
      In this period of quarantine, I'm watching many videos about tube/valve combos and heads...
      Fender HRD IV owns a great clean, but with its 40 watts, it's difficult to use it at home, and with its 18 kg, it's tiring to take it to and from band practice...
      Some Marshalls and Oranges have distortions I like, but I should use the 4 Cables Method to use my effects pedalboard in their FX Loop (and their clean is often not a real clean...
      And I should use the volume potentiometer on my guitar in this case).
      The best could be a little head with a lot of headroom, like your V40 The Duchess, and put some analog overdrives and distortions, plus the effects pedalboard, in its clean.
      So the question: do you know some pedals that could go very near to vintage Marshall distortion sound, and Orange distortion sound (like in Tiny Terror and Orange 15 Terror heads)?
      I know some pedals claim to be "Marshall in a box" and "Orange in a box", but it's better to head a first hand experience...
      Sorry for this huge post, I don't have the gift of summary 😅😅😅

      @@MartinStromer85 I currently use a Harley Benton G112. It is problem the cheapest cab loaded with a Celestion Vintage 30 in the market, but I swapped it to a G12-H75 Creamback and I think I prefer it... I'm gonna make a comparison video soon enough. I would like to try a more expensive cab and specially some vertical 212 like the one from Victory or the new one from Orange with the lightweight neo Creambacks, but I am not having enough gigs to justify the investment now...
      I think the V40 is a great compromise in terms of weight, versatility, and tone and, besides Victory, not many companies are making 40W lunchbox heads with the big tubes (EL34s or 6L6s). There are really a lot of overdrives that emulate many different Marshall amplifiers at several different price points. I use the Fulltone OCD v2 for this (ano other) jobs. It gets to the correct ballpark and also work as a cleanish boost or higher gain overdrive if you need to. This is probably my favorite Overdrive, the one the most and I highly recommend it! The JHS Charlie Brown and Angry Charlie are also very popular for this, but I have not tried them. You could also try the Victory V4 Sheriff, which is the valve pre-amp version of their Sheriff 22/44 amps and you can connect it using a 4-cable to bypass the V40's preamp (this way you basically add a dirty Marshall/Sheriff channel to your V40). You may also find the Voice II of the V40 Marshally enough (it's sort of inspired by Fender Bassman and Marshall JTM-45). It gives you a nice crunchy tones with humbcukers or pushed with a booster, but you cannot footswitch between Voice I and II. On an extreme budget, the Harley Benton British Sound may also be worth trying...
      Here's some of my videos with Marshall tones out of the V40 that may be helpfull:

    Hi! Very nice video... this pedal is so attractive to me, and it seems very well built. I'm more a bluesy, classic rock guy, that's why I was quite sure to pick another pedal you have (the ibanez tube screamer mini, or the TS9). But I love the versatility of the MudHoney II in terms of having another channel for playing harder solos... My question is: in your opinion, can the Mudhoney II with low gain settings make the same job of the TS mini (like sound as SRV, John Mayer etc...) in terms of tone or this pedal is more thought for high distorsion songs? Thank you very much! Best!

    • @TheBedroomRocker1
      @TheBedroomRocker1  4 роки тому

      Thanks Vicenzo! You can play some amazing blues and classic rock with this pedal, but it's quite different from a TS.. The TS has a boost in mid frequencies and little gain. I wouldn't use the Mudhoney for the same job as a TS and that's why I have both in my board 😅 in the end you always need at least 2 gain stages in a board and having TS+Mudhoney gives you 3. Maybe try one of them first and see what you can do and what you're missing for the styles you play and then consider the other. There's no single drive pedal that does it all...

      Hi @@TheBedroomRocker1!T Thank you for your answer.... You're right, I'd guess that's why you have both pedals... At the beginning I was absolutely for the TSmini or the TS9, but right now I'm probably more for the Mudhoney II since for 100€ you get two pedals in one, a boost function and seems, apart from tone differences, not beneath the TS in terms of quality if I understand well...

    • @TheBedroomRocker1
      @TheBedroomRocker1  4 роки тому +1

      @@vincenzoe.corallo4448 That is correct! They both sound great, but different. In my opinion the TS is also a bit more tricky to use... it likes loud tube amps! Many people think they'll plug a TS and instantly sound like SRV or John Mayer, but that is only a small part of the equation. The TS tends to make your sound thinner by cutting bass. This works greatly on some set-ups, specially with bassy amps like most Fender blackface era amps turned up loud. If your amp is not working hard or already has a tight bottom end, the TS may sound weak and thin... The Mudhoney, on the other hand, tends to beef up your sound a lot and usually I find it easier to find a good sound in it independently on amp and settings

      @@TheBedroomRocker1 I use a Vox Ac4 C1 tube amp and what I've heard it should take pedals quite well... of course, I need to try but I don't know yet what's going on with music shops due do the pandemic. In the end, the MudHoney II still seem to be a good and versatile choice for vintage style distorsions... I would couple an overdrive pedal with the tc electronics flashback 2 delay (I'm quite sure about this) and the nux core loop which I already have as first step of my pedalboard.
      Just a curiosity: have you ever tried the tech 21 fly rig 5 ritchie kotzen v2?

    • @TheBedroomRocker1
      @TheBedroomRocker1  4 роки тому

      @@vincenzoe.corallo4448 Yes.. testing may be difficult now. The TS mini and TS9 are easier, but the Mudhoney is also not always available and is often more expensive in other shops. I'd recommend you to order from Thomann as they give you a 30-day trial period and 3-year warranty. The Flashback is awesome... I'm waiting for the new mini version 2, but it's a great versatile delay. I have not tried the tech 21 stuff before, but they generally seem to get reasonably good reviews. I think they offer good compromise in terms of flexible features, price, and weight, but I cannot comment much. The problem for me is that I always like to change and try out different stuff in my board hahah the tech 21 stuff is often more all-in-one solutions

    I bought the mudhoney ii almost four years ago and played it in my two bands (no.1: texas bluesy and classic rock / no.2: rock & prog metal) for many gigs live and also several times in the studio. It served the job very well, is absolutly reliable and always has an individual warm taste of overdrive/distortion sound which makes it unique in relation to other overdrives/distortions, i play too! - i can honestly say, that the mudhoney ii has become my favourite distortion pedal since those years! - you must do some work with the knobs and the fitting on your amp a bit, but if you do, you soon find a very personal, warm tubey rock-guitar-lead and rhythm sound ! - a real fine pedal! - Danish high quality "swiss army knife"!!
    Greetz! Keep rockin'!! 🎸

      O Mudhoney II é feito em Taiwan, então os componentes e controle de qualidade com certeza não são os mesmos, mas em termos de circuito, eu imagino que sim ou quase sim. Sim, é um belo pedal e acredito que os antigos dinamarqueses já estão e vão continuar subindo de preço no mercado de usados. Eu nunca testei um para comparar, mas este Mudhoney II é bem acessível e é um dos meus drives favoritos.
