While some people may prefer the older design, I feel like the "scythe edgelord" trope is too overdone... Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but the new design has a carefree energy that subverts the trope and makes them stand out. This style of anime fighting game allows characters to be very expressive, it's nice when there's something for everybody in the character selection screen (fun, badass, stylish, absurd, sexy, mysterious...) Design matters more than competitive viability for most people anyway, so why not go all out on making them unique?
Everything in GG Strive looks so fucking polished and well animated, it shows how expressive 2d fighting games can be, I'll take this over bland/muted/badly animated realism any day

I really like the gender ambiguous nature of testament, which is why I don't like the new design. Their current design, with slender limbs, and thin waist to wider hips ratio is just undeniably feminine. They look great, but they look female. I wish they kept the old broad shoulders. Without the masculine elements in the design, they lose a lot of what was so striking about the original conceit of the character.
I’m not gonna lie, while I like the New Testament, I’m gonna have to say the Old Testament is the only old design i prefer. They look more distinctly NB in the old design whereas in the current design you could call them a woman with the same design and it would work just as well
I understand this sentiment. I really love the new outfit, it’s super classy and fits them very well, and I think them being curvier works well for the evolution of their character, going from rail thin to more full figured showcases their newfound self love, they literally look like they’re eating better, but I wish they were more muscular, and maybe had a sharper jaw. It wouldn’t make them any less attractive that’s for sure. Their English VA definitely adds to their androgyny, but people playing with the Japanese VA lose that entirely. I will say that nonbinary people don’t have to look a certain way to be nonbinary, you can look super masculine and be nonbinary, and conversely you can look super feminine and be nonbinary, and nonbinary people do not owe anyone androgyny; however, I think a more androgynous design would serve Testament’s character really well, they’re in many ways meant to embody a balance between absolutes (ie life and death).

I say this as an NB person myself who fully embraces my amab masculinity too. It was metal and rock, and designed to be completely over the top, in lore, in design, in gameplay mechanics. Every character was a gimmick character and it worked. The only other GG character with an aesthetic as dark as Testament was Zato1/Eddie. The only character as spooky as Testament was Zappa. You say Testament is too edgy but the character was a horrifically tragic one, turned a villain against his will. He's a tortured character who deep down has a heart of gold and was kind of the misunderstood misanthrope who truly just despises the unnecessary suffering humanity causes, yet does not have the heart to destroy humanity. He has this gentle side to him, having originally been a pacifist, which we saw in GGX and XX when they bothered to actually tell stories and give him character development. He was a complex character, not an edgelord. If you want an example of an edgy character, look at Raven. Testament was just gothic, and his bloody origins were metal af. Epic. Tragic. Not this shallow goofy shit we get now.

I'm just a casual guilty gear player, I admit I didn't follow the game as much but Testament always been my favorite character. When I saw the new guilty gear, the clueless me really thought that's Testament's sister or something lol His voice obviously female. At least english dub making more sense. But I'm not complaining about them thighs tho😚

@@kingsley_in4o124 You don't understand the character nor the origin of the franchise aesthetic at all. It was metal and rock, and designed to be completely over the top, in lore, in design, in gameplay mechanics. Every character was a gimmick character and it worked. The only other GG character with an aesthetic as dark as Testament was Zato1/Eddie. The only character as spooky as Testament was Zappa. You say Testament is too edgy but the character was a horrifically tragic one, turned a villain against his will. He's a tortured character who deep down has a heart of gold and was kind of the misunderstood misanthrope who truly just despises the unnecessary suffering humanity causes, yet does not have the heart to destroy humanity. He has this gentle side to him, having originally been a pacifist, which we saw in GGX and XX when they bothered to actually tell stories and give him character development. He was a complex character, not an edgelord. If you want an example of an edgy character, look at Raven. Testament was just gothic, and his bloody origins were metal af. Epic. Tragic. Not this shallow goofy shit we get now.

@@kingsley_in4o124 That requires character development we never saw. They just massively changed his personality and everything about him without actually justifying it through a storyline. Also, growing past something and becoming happier doesn't mean it's not still a part of what shaped you, and it doesn't mean your whole personality is going to change. That is rediculous. As someone with personal struggles and past trauma of my own, I can testify to the fact.
As to you calling him edgy, you are saying it like it's a bad thing or like it's all their was to him, which is bullshit. You are the one who wants everything to suit your tastes, not me. I had no issues with the non 'edgy' characters in the old games. I didn't want them to change to suit my preference.
@@ANPC-pi9vu So we’re just gonna ignore Faust who was in the same boat as Testament when he was revealed people had no idea what happened and arcsys eventually gave a story that explained what happened to Him, unless you would have wanted Arcsys to release the version of Testament we are use to then after showing us his story, they give us his current version which is just Insane and a waste of Budget it should be apparent to you That they will explain What Happened to Testament ( which they don’t need to do much of IMO). By moving on it doesn’t mean you forget whatever happened to you as I said Testament “accepted” their circumstances and moved on doesn’t mean they forgot about what shaped their past they just used it as fuel to move on. I’m not tryna invalidate or disregard your Trauma or personal issues but My family members and I have been through some pure Garbage and we’ve learned to heal and move instead of just Glooming over the dark days.

I prefer the old model he have more personality compared to the new one where they just effeminate him but the character just doesn’t have any personality whatsoever it just relies on the fact that it uses a female body mold and rigs without the boobs I was hoping to see at least the movement rigs have a certain uniqueness to them but its just a female standard rigs which is disappointing
