@@thatjazzybee3211 isn't this a job 💀 but I get what you mean though, it is easier when your life is not dictated by a company that cares nothing about you except for how much work hours you can put in
I have always secretly wished for this video! Thank you so much for sharing. Looking forward to the rest. Edit: Now that this series has concluded, I figured I'd come back here and ask if anyone has recommendations for more technical deep dives for the nerdier among us. For example, I would love an even deeper dive into the configs and stuff like the dockerfile, orchestration mechanism, distro choice, backups and so on for a server as seasoned as Hermitcraft.
Literally spent the last three days setting up a local host for mods for my family. Pulling my hair out all the way. Always wanted to know how hermitcraft did it.
The hardest part of maintaining a server is usally the first time you do anything or run into a problem, once you have experienced something enough it becomes 2nd nature I use to spend hours and hours on the server me and my friends use but as we go back to old games they are easy to set up but new games only depend on how settings and smaller changes are handled some are faster then others depending on how similar to previous games they are.
I was really exited when X started talking about dedicated server hosting and debian installs, etc. It is definitely the type of thing I'd come to UA-cam to watch.
Agreed! I'm spamming this request elsewhere, but I'll high-jack your high-visibility post to request: if anyone has more technical references/resources, I'd love recommendations!
I absolutely love all the modded blocks being featured as backdrop for the conversation. I want to nerd out and list everything, but even I don't know all of them.
Mainly AE's ME Drives with some storage cells randomly put in, Wrench from Ender IO (god the nostalgia) and rest are decorative block from Chisel mainly "Laboratory Blocks" altho I may be wrong but that hexagonal wall reminds of block from Ztones.
This is a great idea for a video Xisuma. Its almost like we are on the same wavelength because I had wondered why no server admin had really taken the time to break down what running an SMP is like for UA-cam. Then again, you are a creator and many server admins who do this are as well, so that can consume so much time. Our server admin is pretty capable and we have already implemented all the features of Hermitcraft that we like, but there are others out there who may need additional assistance figuring this out. Good on you!
man this is unbelievably helpful, there's plenty of people out there who would just keep this stuff to themselves for their own benefit but you're helping so many people by giving some of the best tips on running a server I've seen. You're the best, seriously.

Making your version of minecraft available through curseforge is absolutely brilliant. it removes most errors people would get when trying to set it up by themselves, and lets you link to it whenever somebody asks about all the things you have installed. Really cool insights! I love these technical things and you and your team do an amazing job running the server, sometimes mistakes happen like we've seen but you always fix it quick, like when the nether became the end chunks because of some folder mixing, or when you deleted docm's underground cannon, so thank you and your team for bringing us the best viewer experience possible and to the hermit's bedt playing experience!

Interesting video. Thanks for the quick list of the important mods. I generally run pure vanilla on my server, but getting some of those optimizing mods could likely really help things out. Coords finder and the silent mobs mods are also both technically non-vanilla things that I think all my players would be interested in as well since they don't really harm the vanilla experience other than not needing to mute mobs in certain areas.

this is a super cool video!! really interesting to see how this amazing server runs behind the scenes
I've been excited to see this video, after hearing you talking about it!
Lots of work, dude!
Wow! You are an inspiration X. Thanks for the great video as always.
Can't wait for the next two videos. I really enjoyed this informative format.
Thanks for the modpack and awesome video xisuma ☺️
I read “How we run and lost Hermitcraft” when I saw the title and started panicking lol :) Great vid as always Xisuma!
I just love Vanilla Tweaks! Can’t play vanilla Minecraft without my favorite data, resource and texture packs! It’s such a great service and it’s for free, thanks Xisuma!! 🙏
Thanks for the insights on hosting a server! That was very interesting! Especially the differences between mods and datapacks used. Like the cusstom models and audio is just a datapack, and not a complete mod, even if it feels modded.
It's unfortunate that there is no "Love" button under the video so i put just a "like" instead. But big Thank you for this content it's really helpfull !! And also help us understand what is behind the scenes of Hermitcraft ^^ ! #Love
well i for one would LOVE an overview of your pterodactyl installation and why you put yourself through the trouble of maintaining it when you only need to host a few relatively small-scale things
Very nice! I love behind the scenes documentaries in general and have been wondering about the offscreen part of Hermitcraft. Looking forward to the social aspects of it.
Great vid Xisuma! Thanks for sharing.
