Dave, the transfer window rule only applies to national team members, which receive the funding. Sadkova isn’t one, so she can switch whenever she wants. Besides, even if she somehow was one, she didn’t have a coach or a school prior to Eteri, she got coaching through Skype and was effectively coaching herself, notice how no school is mentioned when she skates. So there was no school or coach for her to transfer from. The reason they kept her region (Maryi El) when registering her for competitions is because that was the only way for her to make these nationals.
I desperately need a second “parent’s tournament” to go along with the main contest at worlds. Team Russia: Trusova’s dad Zhilina’s mom Titova’s mom Aliona’s mom Team America: Vincent’ Mom Alysa’s Dad Team China: Nini’s mom Team Kazakhstan: Tursynbaeva mom
The parents of the skaters who left eteri are vilified as much as the skaters themselves... which of course is part of the propaganda. Actually both Tursynbaeva and her mother have been nothing but sweet and appreciative of eteri. Which did not save them from being used for one-time point and then discarded with a back injury which will restrict movement for a lifetime.
@@evamasters5028 Tursynbaeva mom reputation was not made by the russian, it was the north american who said that bcs of their coaching situation with Brian Orser.
Dave-I laughed so hard at your mention of that solo ice dancer just sailing along in your practice video because I noticed her before you mentioned her in your segment, and I thought whaaaaat is that? Too funny! Loved this segment.....as always, you and Jonathan are amazing! You will certainly look heavenly in any Matieu Caron costume (can't wait to see it!). Let's go Worlds!!
sportsmanship in russia is very... varied.... most of the skaters are pretty modest in interviews, and are upset at themselves when they fail, but ofc you have exceptions like Katsalapov, Plushenko, Slutskaya, Medvedeva, and of course professor Koslovskii and his iconic "get in line!" moment
@@efimkrivov don’t even pat attantion to such people. Of course Hanyu was wrong thinking Plushenko is a god of figure skating. This unknown person who perhaps started watching FK yesterday (otherwise had watched what “loser” could do) of course is right. In his or her head.
@@FK_loving you ok? do you know what the term "sore loser" means? and I bet hanyu would be very disappointed about his supposed idol's man-child behavior if he knew about all of this posturing and whining
@ S 80: "Sore loser" for speaking up and standing for themselves? For not allowing the system to completely crush them and turn them into "single use cups?" I have noticed that people who kiss butt and suck it up the most, usually have the hardest time watching someone who stands up and fights. It is very painful for them to watch someone with balls win, while they have folded themselves to a spineless cushion to make the big boss's butt feel comfortable 🤣🤣🤣
Regarding arms aloft: Valieva on Channel 1 cup said it is harder for her to jump with arms aloft, so it isn’t necessarily making it easier for her. Tutberidze seems to like to teach complicated stuff at young age, so that they learn it that way and wouldn’t have to mentally prepare themselves for making the jump harder. Like how Kostornaya started learning 3A solely with that insane entry and only did it with that entry every time.
@@arthurtheaardvark13 Rippons make your jumps ungrouped, so it's much more difficult. It works even for single jumps. And it's much more dangerous, since you can't break your fall with your arm.
@@MsRumex How it "makes it easy", since it lifts the center of gravity higher and makes the whole structure less stable? It's these basic physical laws.
Korean skaters (especially with Junhwan, with all that pressure of being the top man in Korea) have had it rough in terms of training- I mean, Jun was skating in mall rinks at times. The lack of both quality ice and rink time is ridiculous in Korea.
The pairs medal result in the 60s had to do with the West German pair signing a professional contract before the Olympics. I think the Canadians (Debbi Wilkes?) went to silver and the American pair (the Josephs) went to bronze. The West German silver medals were reinstated 20 years later. But these were the days of Avery Brundage in the IOC and he was absolutely ruthless when it came to athletes who could be perceived as professionals and not amateurs. (edited for corrections)
If i understand the elements part of russian novice competitions correctly there are two parts the steps and spinns part where they skate a short version of a program with only steps and spinns but no jumps etc. The program is judged only on the elements performed but not PCS. The second part is the jumps part here they perform one solo jump and one combination and they get two attempts at both where only the highest scoring attempt is counted. (Thats why some skaters will change the jumps between the two different attempts. They might play it safe in the first attempt and if that goes acording to plan try some more difficult jump the second time.) In the end the total score for the jump, jump combo, spinns and step sequence are added up and then multiplied by two (so that it has approximately the same weight as the short program in the final score).
41:50 Elena Kostyleva, the silver medalist in Younger Age is an Eteri student. She also transferred recently (but was coached by Eteri once before as well, I think). She's also an incredible talent at only 9 years old. She actually won both the Short and the Free but lost the competition because of the Elements segment.
@@S80-r1o A lot of people 100% believe in hell, so I wouldn’t say it’s obvious. I mentioned it to point out how unfair life is. There is currently a movement to make criminal justice about rehabilitation rather than punishment, but we should still try to punish people for their bad deeds in case there is no hell.
A recent judging change request that I remember is 2013 Canadian nationals where Alaine Chartrand’s 3Lz+1Lo+3S was judged as a sequence (seq) & not a combo & that was the differerence between 3rd & 4th. Once that mistake was fixed she won the bronze instead of Amelie Lacoste.
In Russian top sport edition "Sport-Express" they printed an article titled "American Expert Criticized Choreographer Gleikhengauz" quoting Jonathan's skepticism of some of Danny G's choreo details. Though the journalists covering FS columns in this edition are known for their proPlushenko-antiEterian approach and are suspected to be on payroll of Plushenko family, it was still funny to find Jonothan's expertize from this video there :)
@@walterwyte01 I agree. I love Plushenko. I am not a big fan of Eterie any more i feel that she is making convey of young ladies only last for two years and then gone. Look at Medeveda and Zargeotva. They both have injuries' and I do not like how they are not using there legs to take off instead using there core.
I do think the rippon stretches the body and makes it more aerodynamic, thus quicker rotation. I'm willing to bet that once Valieva goes through puberty and is no longer a stick with no hips or breasts, she will no longer be able to do the 3A.
As usual, I think you two got all the serious stuff correct, but your banter game was in a higher gear: the Moscow Chuckie Cheese bit was inspired! "No ranch dressing!"
the Russian novice drama is next level! such a close comp between titova and dvoeglazova. titova was clean but her movements are extremely rushed and unpolished. i find her a bit frantic to watch and wish she would hold her positions. even though dvoeglazova fell on her quad toe, she is still a much more skilled skater and had higher levels on her spins. i think the result is fair - it’s been sort of unbelievable to see Plushenko put the corruption in this novice competition on the same level of his (arguably deserved) Olympic defeat. but that’s why we love Russia 🙂
Plushenko moaning that he didn't win annoys me. He lost by 1.43: A) He didn't bother doing a three jump combo and if he had, if he'd just put a 2Lo on the end of one of the combo's then he'd have won. B) He only did five types of triples. If he'd done a 3F instead of the 2A then he'd have won. C) He chose to only do one 4T, he could have done two, if had he'd have won. D) He chose to put only three jumps in the second half for the bonus, if he'd done five like Lysacheck then he'd have won. He has no one to blame but himself!
I completely agree. Even at junior level quads are questionable since the female skaters will unlearn and relearn them post puberty, not to speak of the toll on the bodies of these young skaters.
"They don't need to last past 15. The Russians seem able to delay puberty until then." Exactly. The question is if the sport would survive this approach, not the Russian skaters, who will not understand that they were disposable cups, groomed for one season of glory before being discarded. Not to speak about the tens of kids, who wreck their health, but are not strong enough or lucky enough. Are you interested in watching a sport in which a 15 wins only to be replaced by the next 15 year produced in the same factory? Skating a program they don't understand, like Bolero? I am not.

Lol no, korean would not change their selection to world. It was the foreigner fans whom all made a fuss about it. If you have been following Korean skating much, you would know they are very strict with all their domestic rules and decisions.Even Yuna Kim can't get away from it, let alone YY. Nats for World team selection is a final decision, the ranking comp result is used for 4CC team selection (which didn't happen this year) and as an additional factor to decide the national team, those who would get the funding and be allowed to use their National Team rink. After all Korea doesn't have much good quality rinks, unlike other countries like Japan.
It’s not that the amount of competitions is wrong, it’s just doing competition two weeks before worlds is stupid. How the skaters are supposed to peak?
@@stulochealthdesipad4020 No wonder Korean skaters have to find foreign training. KSU should know that they can't produce another star like Yuna unless they change their ways. Many Korean skaters who have foreign coaches can't do their usual regiment, what with the restrictions and lack of access to ice rinks. If Yelim manages to stay in the top 10, there will be at least 2 spots next year. But with the competitors coming to Worlds, don't know if she can stay inside the top 10. Thanks a lot, KSU!
I have zero confidence in any governing body at this point. Why the USOC didn’t enact a SafeSport after Kristy Henrich died of her eating disorder or even the Yurchenko injury from Julissa is disgusting to me and the fact that Al Fong is STILL coaching actively in the US is absurd and disgusting. Yes, I get it, people have been abused in various sports for years even before this, but what is it going to take to get some accountability and consistent justice and proper training for these environments? Side note: SafeSport in Russia is a Twitter bot post, shot of warm Stoli, and a backhanded compliment as Tarasova whips you severely with her fur coat.
You haven’t timed, but I did as well as many other fans, sooo Titova was early by 10 seconds, so the jump not having a bonus is absolutely correct, as it was still first part of the program. So all the screaming and comparison of Olympic results with this competition is absolute absurdity to me🙈 should we all buy a timer for Plushenko, so they can time the program properly?⏱⏱⏱
Yes. Release the details. Perhaps they’ll say John was the one pressuring the victim to keep quiet, but Silvia is his wife for crying out loud. There’s no way she didn’t know everything that was going on.
When did Christine Brennan EVER go to bat for Michelle? She was pretty obviously anti-Michelle at both Olympics and even when there was a pretty easy reason to support Michelle (e.g. 2002 Worlds), she would give some lame-o excuse like "oh, I wasn't there..." For all the transparency she had brought on the sexual abuse allegations in skating, I wouldn't say that she's very been fair to skaters and she's certainly never stuck her neck out for skaters who really and truly deserved the win... 🤷♂️
This has got nothing to do with the topic, but I was rewatching some of trusova's recent skates, and idk if it's just me, but she seems to somehow struggle with her jumps? I know she's being praised for having a more polished jumping technique than others, and she does, but it takes her a little longer to jump (without any transitions basically) and her landings are often not balanced and effortless. I think it's one of the reasons she often falls. It just seems as if she struggles, I hope they're working on that
I mean, she's always fallen a lot. She's at that critical age as well... I don't speak from experience but I would guess that has something to do with the long buildup. Not to mention her coach is from an era where a huge build up to a quad is fine, so he might be focusing on getting it done and getting the BV.
The sad part of this competition is the childs are been used against 2 egooo adults. Period. Hi David I will subscribe and smash that like button if you can tell what happened to Evelina Pokrasneteva. Was so hoping to see her skating again after pandemic but Ilya is now with someone else
In Canada I have competed in some element competitions, but it wasn’t competitive levels it was from senior bronze to gold (starskate levels), & you’d do 2 jumps, 1 jump combo, 1 spin & 1 spiral sequence. Whatever level you’d compete at would tell you which jumps and what spin you’d do. I loved competing in element competitions ☺️ You could also repeat an element if you messed up or you know it could be better, but if you did it really well you didn’t have to.
Would be cool if they added it into the Olympics. Also, I competed in interpretive which is fun cause you just skate to a song you love & show your interpretation to it. Nowadays you need one stsq, one spin & one chsq; no levels are given for them tho (I think) just goe. Would be harder to add that to the Olympics, but it would still be interesting.
@@amberelibrennan In some competitions, interpretative is when the competition committee selects one song, each skater listens to it and then composes and skates their choreography
I don't care to watch novices, but to hear that one of Plushy's students claiming "I was robbed!" at some child competition is really...childish. It shows her age, and now, she's welcoming RusFed to further mark her and Plush down more. Not a good look. Haven't heard much from Vanessa James, but since both she and Cipres have retired and are no longer skating together, well, their careers have already been over, right? Cipres needs to be thoughtful of his former partner and take responsibility before Vanessa's reputation gets smeared because of him. Not sure the level of her knowledge is of the situation, but hopefully, she keeps her distance from him for a while and he can fix himself. The Muppets Show was great, guys. Watch the one where Prince featured on there. It's hilarious. Tanos and Rippons? I thought that these were no longer getting marked with high GOE in international competitions, but in Russia only. Why would Valieva need to use the Rippon to get the 3A around? Sound suspicious, like she can only use her arms to jump. Not a good example of textbook technique. If anything, Tutberidze and the team should do what Plushenko does: show the girls videos of Yuzuru Hanyu doing the 3A. Nathan Chen is the textbook all quad jumper; they would do well to show him to them, too. It would be nice if Yelim Kim manages to get South Korea 2 spots for Worlds and Olympics next year, if not be on the podium. It's sad, but I imagine she and Haein being 9-10 at this rate...
Well, she *was* robbed. LOL And this is where the over-scoring starts and makes the Eteri skaters invincible. If you don’t put your foot down now, you’re truly screwed once juniors starts. This isn’t only a Russia thing btw. Alyssa Liu was over-scored since she was a novice and the over-scoring continued until she was the two-time U.S. champion.

Regarding TItova's mother and Plushenko disputing the scores - I think in Russia you have to go on the offensive or be trodden on. Also Plushenko is probably the only one who can stand to the eteri cult now, the rest of the coaches are paid by the federation and they can lose their jobs (not unlike TAT who supported Medvedeva and Orser, and was removed from her commentator job, and Ted hired). Speaking about it and also continuing to have top athletes is the only way he may eventually succeed. I think a lot of coaches and possibly judges privately agree with Plushenko, but would never go on the record fearing retaliation. Plushenko and his skaters are definitely taking a risk, but sometimes the risk of not taking the risk is even bigger.
Thats gonna be imposible to happen because Plushenko needs her students do very well and start winning and thats not happening, even if Sasha win worlds is like "yes but Kamila wasnt there" and next year Eteri will sweep podiums again.... Next generation is gonna be Kamilas, next Akatyevas, next the Eteris novice because they win and idk how thats gonna change Trusova really needs to medal in worlds but if she choke and leaves AoP, Plushenko is done as a coach
why were none of sofia's 5 (yes, FIVE) blatant flutzes and downgraded combination called? not even going to engage with your tarasova victimhood narrative, but I find it very interesting how the judging fairness crusaders never apply their logic to their favourite coaches/figureheads (since plushenko doesn't really count as a coach lol)
Lmao are u seriously "victimizing" tarasova? U don't need to worry about her, she's a legend there and pretty much no one can control her. Since u so kindly care about those poor kids and how they're abused by eteri (which I applaud u for) seems like you're forgetting tarasova speaks whatever she wants and publicly shames and trashes those same kids u worry about. Oh and she's medvedeva's biggest supporter ever, after her failure at the olympics she trash talked alina on TV, and just recently, aliona. So believe me when I tell you I genuinely don't understand your logic here sweetie
I have to agree. Russia got all up and arms when their skaters started actually getting underrotation calls they deserved, and it worked. The judges backed off. I think if Plushenko stayed quiet, the status quo of "Eteri wins all" would just stick.

Why is the Zimmerman team being dragged so hard when two teenage girls asked Morgan for pics in exchange for a pizza, Morgan found that funny and complied with their request (against better judgment given their age, but it’s not like the pics weren’t solicited), and the girls got their pizza (I’m assuming they were more than pleased with what they got out of this very strange deal?). Both Evan and Plushenko's pcs in the short and long. The idea that Daisuke and Stephan were not light years ahead in PCS is the true emergency
sportsmanship in russia is very... varied.... most of the skaters are pretty modest in interviews, and are upset at themselves when they fail, but ofc you have exceptions like Katsalapov, Plushenko, Slutskaya, Medvedeva, and of course professor Koslovskii and his iconic "get in line!" moment

I find that hard to believe... she looks like she couldn’t land anything without her arms above
@@arthurtheaardvark13 Rippons make your jumps ungrouped, so it's much more difficult. It works even for single jumps.

It has been a very tough year.
Kilius and Baumler were the West German skaters.

Have also started to think that rippons may assist in quick rotation when using certain jump techniques
They do. It's like when you do a cross-toe spin, raising your arms up increases your rotation

the Russian novice drama is next level! such a close comp between titova and dvoeglazova. titova was clean but her movements are extremely rushed and unpolished. i find her a bit frantic to watch and wish she would hold her positions. even though dvoeglazova fell on her quad toe, she is still a much more skilled skater and had higher levels on her spins. i think the result is fair - it’s been sort of unbelievable to see Plushenko put the corruption in this novice competition on the same level of his (arguably deserved) Olympic defeat. but that’s why we love Russia 🙂
He is so perfect for this level of drama.
Plushenko moaning that he didn't win annoys me. He lost by 1.43:
A) He didn't bother doing a three jump combo and if he had, if he'd just put a 2Lo on the end of one of the combo's then he'd have won.
I really think they should ban quads in novice why does a 11-12 year olds need to do quads
I completely agree. Even at junior level quads are questionable since the female skaters will unlearn and relearn them post puberty, not to speak of the toll on the bodies of these young skaters.
I think we may very well see that they are not sustainable and only injure the skaters.
yep the "career peak at 16" is becoming a self fulfilling prophecy.
I am not.

When did Christine Brennan EVER go to bat for Michelle? She was pretty obviously anti-Michelle at both Olympics and even when there was a pretty easy reason to support Michelle (e.g. 2002 Worlds), she would give some lame-o excuse like "oh, I wasn't there..."
For all the transparency she had brought on the sexual abuse allegations in skating, I wouldn't say that she's very been fair to skaters and she's certainly never stuck her neck out for skaters who really and truly deserved the win... 🤷♂️
Her entire book was pro Michelle in 1998!

I was thinking of 1960 :)

Kevin and Mae should be underscored at Worlds. The are not guilty but they supported them and looked away. This could be the real punishment, silvia and john deserve to lose all their top athlets.
That’s a terrible idea. It would be unethical. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
And then the kerfuffle only began when the parents found out and started sharing the girls for asking in the first place? I’m so confused.
Yay!!!
