These are the words of Christ, filled with sorrow and love. To me Jerusalem here represents the whole world, so blind and filled with iniquity that it rejects and kills the One sent to it for its redemption. I am always moved to tears by this performance.
This is so incredibly beautiful. It is an aria I didn't know about. There are people who write on this site who try to make political statements, show their ignorance, and would spoil what is beautiful. My advice is, sit back, listen, and enjoy the moment. You won't live forever, so try to make your life a little better while you can.
Vergleiche die Wiedergabe ab Beginn oder 1:40f. mit und ohne o.a. Equalizer-Einstellung.... Hier wird die 'klarere Übertragung' mit guter Textverständlichkeit recht deutlich.
The most technically correct singer who ever lived. Totally on the breath and not pushed. The line in her voice is unmatched. You don’t hear all those register changes that almost every female singer has these days, especially when they sing low. When they do this it really sounds like some other person has stepped in with a completely different voice and often sounds like a man. Her voice has none of that. Perfect line all the way up and down her range, one voice only with NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!
Jerusalem, Thou That Killest the Prophets from Mendelssohn’s St. Paul. She also sings Parry’s Jerusalem (“and did those feet in ancient time walk upon England’s mountains green”) on this stunning 1957 Decca stereo LP.

So beautiful! Actually, It is incredibly silly. I am a Norwegian and I did not know anything about Flagstad for many years. In my school years I didn't hear anything about her. But then I didn't learn much about Mozart or Bach either. I was thought that all music came from Africa! Stupid socialist crap! But I saw trough all that, even though I was not more than twelve or thirtheen years of age.My instinct told me I was being lied to.
How exquisitely beautiful.
So moving, so sustaining, so comforting and extremely uplifting; brava Miss Flagstad.
Amazing voice quality, for being 62 years old when she recorded this!!
I did not know this aria. Time to give it more coverage! KF is unparalleled.
Una voz como una catedral. Una artista formidable. Gracias, Kirsten.
Yes, and thankyou for commenting.

I am always moved as well; magnificent divine piece of music.

To me, she sounds every BIT as GOOD as she had 30 years prior! Incredibly even tone and timbre!
oh god! you loved her!
Thank you! For letting us enjoy both Mendelssohn and the voice of the century at once!

just like great wine..the voice remained great to the end. Far more beautiful than Nilsson.

Heaven......
In my opinion the best Jerusalem of all by Felix Mendelssohn and the greatest soprano of them all Kirsten Flagstad , Bliss complete Bliss
