The way you explain things make a total newbie like me who knows nothing about quads totally get all the concepts described. Love the honesty, the clarity, the humility, the skills and the art. Hardware and software dialed-in to the point of "this thing reads my mind" to which you add your freestyle and creativity make you an artist. When you talk, I thoroughly enjoy the tech concepts, tutorial and philosophy. The moment you take that aircraft off the ground, I'm watching art.

I've been prop testing both of my 7 inch quads recently. Now on one I run gemfan flash props because it's kinda lite for a 7" and on my other I only run HQ props because it's kinda heavy. Playing with 3.5 - 4 - 5 inch pitch differences and man I couldn't believe how different they all made my quad fly. I love aerodynamics!!! It is definitely f-ing cool!!!😊

It's like sliding into a old comfy pair of shoes... I got a quad that is like that and I've tried to reproduce and duplicate it but with no success! It's my favorite and one of a kind 😊
Mr. Steve! Love the idea that there is multiple ways to achieve the same kind of flight feel. I just got into reef aquariums and it's very similar in that hobby. Thousand ways to do the same thing. Just pick what way best suits you and your lifestyle.
The fact that it doesn't flip out when it touches something or bounce on a landing is great. If you ever figure out what's going on, let us know. I want some of that magic.
I also fly FETtec, old Kiss and Kiss Ultra. It is not true that the motors stop when they touch something. The old Kiss are even more powerful than the FETtec Alpha. And if FETtec wanted to, they could also unlock the OSD for the O3. But anyway, nothing can compare to Kiss Ultra, it is a completely different league. The best you can have is Kiss Ultra.
It was a thing, I don't remember in what firmware version but this happened to me until one firmware update I don't remember which one. But it was a thing.

You make me feel like I suck, well I do, but you make me want to freaking quit....I don't know if I can ever get that fast on the sticks. I am really new, just bought a freestyle a month ago-ish after a month flying an Avata 2. I can't understand how you can react that fast and go full stick deflection for maybe 1/2 of a second and then be neutral controls until the next maneuver. Thanks for all that do explaining things and giving advice. I don't know how the early years drone pilots ever made it without the resources provided by you and a handful of other very generous content creators.

yeah bro ive been the same ive been on fettec since release pretty much and always flown kiss firmware, never felt that alpha flew as well. nick is sending me out a fettec sfoc as well soon and im back on analog so ill be hitting you up soon to get some tips for tuning on alpah if thats cool man.. loved the video, great bit of information man
@Mr Steele maybe update Tracer firmware because the latest versions support 500hz if the baud rate is set to 921k. It still has the same range just more hz maybe worth trying out .
I feel something similar with the 2020 frame apex and my fc diatone f405 mk2 with mpu6000 gyroscope, it seems to me that the impulserc apex + mpu6000 combination makes an amazing drone! Likewise, each drone has its own thing in particular, no two are identical, that's pretty crazy! Damn, how do you fly in your house, the neighbors must be very scared by the roar of the engines😂😂

ive had a lot of luck using higher kv motors with 4.9" props. it compensates for the smaller diameter prop while providing the sharp, less floaty flight feel of a 4.9" prop. but that's just my own experience tho

In my case, I prefer a low pitch 4.9" prop with a motor in the 1950kv-1980kv range. it's definitely a different feel imo. specifically, the gemfan sbang prop which is 4.9x3.4x3, which I'm assuming the HQ J33 is a direct competitor to. but imho I feel that if you're testing the j33s it should be with a higher kv motor. only bcuz I feel that most people who will fly the j33s will likely be using higher kv motors, but that's just my opinion. great video, its always fun seeing you fly. and also to hear someone with the amount of experience you have compare things and describe your setups. much love

Hi I’m looking at building one of your quads. Have all parts now bar motors, gone for your older setup with the kiss v2.looking at getting the motors and the new stout v5 are 1950kv whereas the silks are similar specs to the stout v4 at 1750 kv. Which motor will give me the closest to your setup
I had the same struggle, I tried to give alpha a chance for the longest time, I am a big fettec fan, but I keep going back to old kiss firmware. My quads are on F7 so, old I know. And I really wish the rates were kiss rates.

Hi, I don't can confirm motors stop on KISS OG (Flyduino) Firmware. Only problem I got, was with your Steel Motors V1 and FETTEC 45A ESC (with first firmwares)... I contact you about that, but you just made it ridiculous. Half a year later, after burning so many motors and ESC... Oh, what a great surprise.... there is bug with ESC and your motors. The next thing on alpha is, there is a bad propwash on slow Split S and it is not tuneable.... Don't get that wrong, I really have many fettec builds and I love it.... but since release Alpha FW... the magic is gone... just waiting every update, to bring that back.

Everyone knows the thing that will make a Kwad rip the last 10% of ball is... the perfectly AGED RUBBER ISOLATORS. Don't go marshmallow on it. Run em STIFF but a tad of give Hardware wise its weight distribution: Battery needs to be dead on balanced (my quads like a perfect center of gravity, within a few Millimeters . Pinching the top plate center.

my mach r5 I started with years ago is still my favorite too .. I have other R5s but none fly like that one mm the 03 and the original G2s are incredible fly my analog then 03 and the 03 is so smooth with the G2s , but the 03 takes up 2 min off battery for power vs analog ,,, motors with alot of torque drain the battery super fast , the xing 2050 has little torque but massive speed so the the battery does not drain fast thats a racing motor ,, the Tmotor V3 2050 have lots of torque great for freestyle but wide uo open battery dead in 1 min ,, I have 1 apex frame a little to big for me but great and stable for cinematic filming ,, I like 220mm true x frames the medium
At this point in the game the difference in motor tech I would argue is mostly hype and all comes down to personal needs in design language. Looks are the main difference. Weight, and then the power differences are companies quoting X kv but lying and making them higher for moral thrust. Not always. But it’s not uncommon in the past. So why would it change. I make my motors for my use case light weight, responsive and suited to lower pitch props and quick increase and decrease in throttle adjustments. Been doing this a decade there’s nothing out there that catches my eye 👁️
I don't know how you can move this quickly. Years of flying, and I still barley keep up with stuff you do confidently. The hardware in my head is just too slow.
Get into drone racing and this kinda flying quickly loses its magic. It’s not hard to flip and flop with no objective vs trying to actually hit gates faster than this while competing against other equally as fast pilots.
It's not really that. Racing is something I could potentially do because it's mostly just hitting targets. What I'm talking about is the extreme number of movements while not losing sense of orientation or trajectory. His reaction time is easily 4x as fast as mine as well. It's part of why most of my freestyling is done at 1.6-3 inches. Slows things down a bit and reduces the cost of screwing up.
@@jaysonrees738 obviously you are not as familiar with racing as you think you are. Racing is much much harder than any sort of freestyle. Steele himself isn’t even a fast racer. Hitting gates in succession and mostly throwing blind turns at 100mph is objectively harder than flipping around with no real aim. Racing is objective, freestyle is subjective

Muscle memory and you should check rates. Once you’re flying a while, a few of your moves will become automatic. Everyone has different ‘go-tos’..

One thing with digital: i fly always cautious - with analog I feel much more in control and have no hesitation to fly close manuvres.
That 15 point aileron roll was nasty. Insane flying I can tell you're really locked in with these setups

did you get the osd to work? im in the same situation with alpha firmware and the old osd boards, i can not get the osd to detect the fc...

Get into drone racing and this kinda flying quickly loses its magic. It’s not hard to flip and flop with no objective vs trying to actually hit gates faster than this while competing against other equally as fast pilots.
It's not really that. Racing is something I could potentially do because it's mostly just hitting targets. What I'm talking about is the extreme number of movements while not losing sense of orientation or trajectory. His reaction time is easily 4x as fast as mine as well. It's part of why most of my freestyling is done at 1.6-3 inches. Slows things down a bit and reduces the cost of screwing up.
@@jaysonrees738 obviously you are not as familiar with racing as you think you are. Racing is much much harder than any sort of freestyle. Steele himself isn’t even a fast racer. Hitting gates in succession and mostly throwing blind turns at 100mph is objectively harder than flipping around with no real aim. Racing is objective, freestyle is subjective
