- Today I do an overview of the latest printing of the Daredevil By Brubaker & Lark Omnibus Vol. 1 from Marvel Comics and I also compare it to the 1st printing. The new printing is due out on June 7th and 14th.

They should have, but Omar has said before that's it's easier to just send the already done files back to the printer. No work needed. That's probably what they did. Plus more money so there's that too

I’m so glad they changed the spine. I wasn’t a fan of how the original spine was identical to the Bendis/Maleev omnis. This helps this run stand out
And I would've like consistency.
Looks best on the shelf and it's easy to see what's what because of the names.
Same here, I love the fact is different this time and stands out like the other runs. I'll be rebuying it.
This was a book I had, then sold, then bought again. I have since learned the error of my ways and will never again part with this masterpiece.
This is one of my favorite runs of ALL TIME ! Brubaker is an absolute writing BEAST ! The man is a genius ! So many twists and turns. You can feel the thriller/suspense throughout the run. You can feel the atmosphere so thick through writing and the art as well ! For those getting this, you're in for a SERIOUS treat ! Great overview Omar !
Wow, so it's $25 dollars more expensive than the original prints, and it's 25% thinner due to the paper. And they could have combined volume 1 and 2 in 1 book. Sounds like a terrible deal.
At 15:45 we see the reason why I don't invest in the Marvel Omnibus anymore. This cheap paper kills the art and compromises the whole work. I think it's not only disrespectful to the reader, but also to the artist himself. If only they reduced the price of this books...but not even that.
I've just bought two editions of the Epic Colletion line: FF vol 22 and X-Men vol 8. Both with great paper quality.
I don't know if you noticed, it's very subtle, but the title and parts of the art of these books are embossed on the cover, back cover and even on the spines. Nice touch! The Epic Collection line urgently needs a pattern and I think this is the one to be followed. Both books are printed by Solisco which is also responsible for the printing of the Mighty Marvel Masterworks line which is, in my opinion, the best that Marvel has to offer in terms of quality to its readers nowadays. Thank God Brubaker wasn't interrupted by Civil War writing Daredevil and maintained this singular narrative that Bendis brought. Those two runs is what actually got me into reading comics. I just can't stand the constant tossing the tie-ins (Civil War was a torment).
I don't even remember if daredevil was in civil war since he was in prison.
Civil War IMHO hurt Brubakers Cap run. I hated it but I needed to know the basics but yeah I totally agree with you.
82 was my first issue of DD in a number of years. I don't even remember what inspired me to pick it up. But it made me a Brubaker fan for life.

The old spine logo is miles better IMO.
Was waiting for this one, but I can't buy those omni with that paper quality. Marvel need to address it.
As much as I want to upgrade from my 3 paperbacks into omni format, this is a situation where I can't justify it with the existing mapping. If I had this first volume, then I'd have to get volume 2 to match it. Standard completionism and an easy choice to make if the contents of that second omnibus were equal to multiple paperback books. But the contents of Omni #2 are equivalent to only _one single_ trade paperback... specifically the Vol. 3 TPB that I already own. Guess I'll check back in a few years to see if they put it out in one single hardcover.
I forgot, how mant issues where vol 3, 6 or 12? That can not be an omnibus
I hate these reprints with the thinner and lower quality paper. It really hurts the art when you see other pages bleeding thru.

Paper quality needs to be addressed by Marvel.
I will say that it is a bummer that the paper quality is reduced compared to the original printing. The spine change doesn't bother me as much, although I do wish they kept it the same. But, I suppose that's the upside and downside with reprints.
I mean I get it with the cost of overhead rising I don't blame them for using thinner paper but at this point I'd take a $10-$15 price hike if we can get some better paper quality

@@MastermindAXL Be nice if it was, that seems to be DC's stratagy though that means 52 at $175 and that just seems crazy even if it's only a $25 price hike

Can’t wait for this book, currently trying to read everything brubaker after reading Vol 1 of criminal and loving it, i hope this and millers DD is the start of reprints for everything daredevil because a lot of it is OOP
I'd say the 2 Bendis books in 2020 was the start. I doubt you'll see them reprinted anytime soon
If you’re liking Brubaker, definitely check out his Captain America run mentioned in the video. Amazing stuff that inspired the Winter Soldier movie
Because of all the great runs from these great writers is why I love DD as a top 5 comic character of all-time for me. However, as much as the Bendis run is my pick for best (yes, even over Millers, imho), Brubaker’s is now the most impressive after learning that he asked Bendis to keep him in ****SPOILER***** jail so Brubaker can get him out. Just impressive as $&it.
Never read Bendis run, do I really need to read his run, or can I start this even if its a follow up?
@@cv9340, you should. However, if you really don’t feel like it, then just look at spoilers and read a synopsis of his run toward the end of the run. The reason is because Brubaker leads off right where Bendis left off.

Aw man, I wish they didn't change the spine. Now this one volume is going to stick out on my shelf. Well I already preordered this, I will gaslight myself by saying at least the contents are exactly the same.
Same here! If they reprint vol. 2 I may have to replace my old one so they match. Pity they now won’t match the Bendis books.

Why is paper stock so thin? of all the publishers Marvel have the lowest quality paper. I don't understand how Marvel can get away with this?

Why oh why can't they just keep the spines the same, I am haunted by Mike Grells Green Arrow when I look at my Kallax
They messed up that first Green Arrow Omnibus by making it a wrap around cover. The second omni has a great spine

This was one of the first Omnies that I bought when I got into the Omnibus game. Such a great run!
I just got this omnibus, and it's crazy that this new printing costs $25 more than the first printing, even though I feel like it's an overall downgrade in quality. I do not like how thin the paper is at all and the original spine would've fit better next to my other Daredevil omnis. I love this series, but this printing is pretty dissapointing. If they end up reprinting this with thicker paper I would consider selling this current printing.

Looking forward to this. I missed this volume and, I believe, the second volume from the previous releases. Guess I'm glad I didn't pick it up since I would imagine the next volume's reprint likely will have the same smaller spine logo.
I will say, though... is that possible gutter loss on the credits page? Those credits look awfully close to the center of the page.

The Bendis' run is amazing, it's like sopranos mixed with daredevil, I love it.

Why, why why, change the spines. Terrible decision by Marvel. I could see if they were saving money, but the font on the spine does not change nothing except pissing off fans.
Maybe they think that people buying again the reprints while selling the old printings they already have, double dipping for love of consistency, can compensate for people who waited years for those reprints but now they just give up (low quality paper and mismatched trade dress are a killer combo).
Or maybe they just don't have a plan, they're in love with micro fonts and micro logos, that's their thing and they can do whatever they like best. After all Disney top management for sure is not interested in what kind of graphic design is used for the Omnibus line.
Can't wait for this but damn such a thin omni. I wonder how thin Vol. 2 will look like lol

I’m super excited this book is coming out but I’m so annoyed they changed the spine writing to white. It’s going to stand out in such a bad way from all the other Daredevil books.
Makes me wonder what they’ll do for the bendis Waid and Zdarsky runs when they come out/get reprinted
@@CS11 The Waid omnis already had a different spine design from the Bendis and original Brubaker ones. I think the new Brubaker design is a nice way to let the run stand on its own
the plentiful use of this Imak printer is killing my will to collect this stuff.
i don't mind it once in a while but I find myself passing on books I normally wouldn't because of it :( it makes me sad

Okay, I'm going to say it: I don't think Marvel's work on spines (or just some) is quite on point 100% of the time - some really do seem a bit off point (whilst most are spot on!).
However, if that's the most to moan about, things aren't overly that bad, right?

Marvel are a joke with the quality of these. £80 for pages that are see-through.
Glad I managed to pick up a copy for £40 instead, I've heard the run is fantastic.
