Had similar experience with 12 and 15. Loved 15 at first: intensity, oilines, richness. But with time found myself leaning to 12 as my go-to Glenallachie. It's more lively, still really big on sherry. With Glenfarclas 12, this is one of the most gorgeous twelve in sherried whiskies for me. Thanks for the comparison! Cheers!
tough one. I love the 12 and my 15 arrived a week ago. Gave it a try... Loved it. It's has a very similar taste to the 12 with a few key differences. First it ditches the red fruits and doubles down on black fruits. Second, there's so much more wood influence. That brings a bit more spiciness and more tannins... but not too much, just right. That also gives it a much more intense arrival and finish. I honestly can't affirm which I like more the 12 or the 15... I like them both. If the 15 is on sale it's a no brainer... It definitely feels more complex and powerful than the 12, but the 12 has it's advantages.
I haven't tried the 15 yet and was in the shop today thinking about paying the extra but my experience with the 12 always been reliably great so I got the 12 again. Nice to your thoughts. Great video thanks.
As far as I know the casks vatting is exactly the same in both whiskys... That what Billy Walker said in one of the interviews...both very nice indeed... Thank for comparison... Cheers Bro...
Now that Ardbeg has bumped its price up on the 10 I think the Glenallachie 12 just might have a shot at the best bang for your buck / value whisky title. Have you tried the 10 cask strength? Absolutely amazing stuff! Really looking forward to seeing how it keeps improving over the next few years especially when the Billy Walker spirit is finally old enough to be a part of the core range.
I gots to say for what it's worth: over-oaked is a relative term. For me, an over oaked whisky would be one where the oak dominates everything else and becomes bothersome. Wood and tannic notes can be really nice. I've only rarely had whisky i would consider truly "over-oaked", and only in samples. Maybe i'm lucky in picking up bottles, maybe i have a higher oak tolerance - but that's my two cents anyway Great video, lovely review.
Spent a lot more time with the 15 now... honestly, while I also do love the 12, the 15 destroys it. It's so much more intense. Already ordered a replacement bottle even though there's still half of my bottle left.
Ralphy thinks there's some ex-port casks on the GlenAllachie 15. and Billy Walker mentioned on a statement that he finished the 15 on Hogsheads and puncheons (any info we get on these is welcome, the bottle and box are very vague).
Having traditionally been a beer drinker, I wondered if there were any whiskies which were made with hopped barley. Not that I can find, though there are some IPA cask'd expressions. Not tried any, though
I was disappointed with the Glennallachie 12 The nose is amazing but the taste does not have the finesse of the nose. I founded not complex at all. Very undimensional.
Ahh man, I can’t believe it! Amazing how different people experience different things, especially in whisky. Might be something to revisit in the future maybe? Either way, thanks for watching! 🥃🥃
@@itsgoodjuice Especially that I love the nose so much !! But the taste not offer to me several layers in time : all off a sudden like an explosion and after nothing else... Of course I will try again !
Had you just opened the bottle? I'm on my second bottle of the GlenAllachie 12 (15 already ordered and on the way) and it's pretty clear to me that it really, REALLY benefits from some oxidation. The neck pour is so much different than what you will get after only a couple weeks. Hopefully you managed to see that. I think this is so deliciously complex.
This is an amazing format mate - I hope you'll keep it going, we're loving it out here!

I like this video concept a lot. Maybe do Glen Scotia next?
Great review :) 2 really great drams! For me, the 12yo is the best value whisky when one also take the price under consideration.

Try the 15, seriously. It murders the 12 in a way you'll never even find the body.

Oh awesome!! I’ll have to give that a search. Billy Walker is the boss. Cheers for watching dude! 🥃🥃
Great review concept, new sub from Sweden …
You are right, I agree with you
Love your vids bro!

What batch number did you try? I have read many reviews and still cant decide which one buy? 🙋♂️
@@peatbull3426 batch 4-7 are all amazing, but my favourite is 5 but you can’t go wrong with any of them.
@@MichaelMurphyCFHH cheers M8. Still i can get batch 6 and 7 in good price so i go for it. 🙋♂️🥃

I heard 12 is great and not worth the extra cost for the 15 better mixed flavours for price taste on the 12 anyways thanks for the vid!!👍🏻
Do a head to head between the respective ages of Glendro and Glenallachie

Glenfiddich IPA

I think its better if you do it blind.
Blind would be cool. But too easy to know which is the 12 vs the 15. The 15 is 100% Sherry while the 12 is a mix of casks
