The original Mercedes-Benz M-Class was one of the progenitors of the luxury SUV movement, a vehicle that simultaneously offered the off-road capability of an SUV and the amenities befitting a Benz. Now completely redesigned, the 2006 Mercedes M-Class rides and handles better than the previous generation, and with a low-range transfer case, four-wheel traction control, and a downhill traction system that limits speed during descents, it may still hold its own when off-roading.

But the maintenance is high though
No auto makers in the world will beat Benz
soooooooooo much better built than the first one.if i bought one of these it wuld b used as an off roader
my parents own 1 of these in black. very very good car u can feel nothing inside.
$40,000 was alot of money back in '05/'06..
Is it still good to buy this car? 2006 model?

For best offroaders go for a G500 or an Unimog.

I REGRET OWNING A ML350 BENZ. I PUT IN VERY LOW MILEAGE LIKE 10K MILES A YEAR BUT GUESS WHAT ? I SPENT THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR THE REPAIRS / MAINTENANCE OF THIS LEMON CAR JUST TO KEEP IT IN GOOD RUNNING CONDITION. THERE ARE OCCASSIONS THAT THIS JUNK QUALITY VEHICLE JUST WONT START FOR NO REASON AT ALL !
MY WIFE AND I ARE DISGUSTED, DISSAPOINTED, FRUSTRATED.. NAME IT !!!
OVERALL IT IS A POOR QUALITY VEHICLE, VERY BAD RATING, UNDEPENDABLE !
WARNING TO THE PUBLIC - DONT BE FOOLED ABOUT THE BENZ FALSE ADVETISING REGARDING THE QUALITY OF PERFORMANCE.
IT'S MISLEADING. DON'T BE THE NEXT VICTIM.

I still laugh when I see a Mercedes/Kia.
Never seen one when I off road. I do see a lot driven by old ladies or chinese people. Not really a masculine vehicle. It will always remind me of a Korean copy.
More German lies. LOL.
70% slope. I think ANY car or rig can drive down a 70% slope. It's what happens when you get to the bottom that matters. The M's front and rear end would be fucted by it's crappy approach and departure angles.
Mercedes...the wanna-be KIA Sorento. That's just sad.LOL
