Jordan, I just made a comment on this video regarding self leveling concrete. It’s very difficult to use properly. Please find and read my comment. I explain our experience with it which was a nightmare. Worth a read so as to hopefully save you from a nightmare scenario like we, and even some of our friends, had when trying to use the stuff. It’s not what you think! It doesn’t truly self level!
Jordan, you mentioned using self leveling concrete in your video - please read this comment in its entirety! My wife and I (and others we know) used self leveling concrete and thought you could just pour it in place and it would “self level”. This is very much not the case. You HAVE to push the stuff around, and flatten it out, and push it where you want it to go. You need to use a 4ft level to identify your high spots and low spots and aim to add in ONLY certain spots. We poured 25 gallons or so of that stuff all over our floor and it was far worse than before we poured it. Be VERY careful with the stuff and know what you’re doing before you attempt this. We had to beat the daylights out of the stuff to remove it from our floor and it was very terrible and disheartening. We have friends who also assumed that self leveling meant self leveling and it worked out the same way for them. Please please please do this with somebody who knows what they’re doing. If your neighbor, whose name escapes me, knows how to do this, have him walk you through the process. It is SO hard to undo a big mistake like using this stuff wrong. Please be wise about it and don’t make the mistake we made! If anybody knows Jordan and can make sure he sees this, please get this information to him. Save him from the horror story that was our first experience with the stuff! (Also, for anybody who’s curious, we followed the directions for how much water to use)
The basement looks a lot more complete than the last update I saw. I didn’t realize until I became an adult how many gaps I had in my knowledge. My parents did their best to prepare me for life but I often still need to call them up to ask how to do stuff. You’re doing fine Jordan 🙂
My dad was a mechanic and auto repair shop owner in Hendersonville for several decades. He would literally dream that he was fixing cars and would sometimes figure out car problems that were stumping him in his dream.
When you talked about realizing that the 'mess' around you was just what it looks like to move towards the goal you had for yourself and acquire that skill, etc - that helped me. I've been in the process of starting a tiny business and feeling overwhelmed by all the small steps and the things that go wrong along the way and just doubting whether I can do it since it's not going perfectly or quite as expected. But your outlook was a fresh way to look at things and I appreciate it! :) Thanks!
As soon as you said battery light and then the car died, I said out loud - belt snapped. Waited a minute or two and sure enough, I was right. xD I've messed with cars enough to know a few things, but I'm with you - I wish I had a whole lot more of those skills when it comes to taking apart complicated stuff, fixing it, and putting it back together. Even though it can be frustrating trying to learn, it's encouraging to know that just forcing yourself to do something even if you don't fully understand it is enough to start teaching you and getting you that experience.
This car drama is terrible! I am so sorry. I have had similar car experiences in the past and it is so horrible to go through that. . .being stuck, having to get it fixed, having to fix it again right away, etc.
That's crazy. I recently had a similar mower experience. Myself ended up rolling it down my front yard because my brakes gave out. Got to love them. Riding lawn mowers 😂.
Ah it reminds me of when I was caulking baseboards at 40 weeks pregnant because, darn it, we were going to finish the floors and finishes before baby was born 😂
I'm having this self "fix it" bug with the capacitor in our inside ac unit... haha my sister said she's replaced it before and the quote today was $370. The part is $10 haha. 🤣
From what I've seen, things are always going to come up to delay/postpone other things. Sometimes you need to deal with the immediate before the long-term, unfortunately. I hope everything goes well with your basement and you baby boy's birth!
Dude ask your church community for another older dude to come talk you through it, the demonstration will help you learn faster. Somebody in your community knows how to do this and will come and invest in you. please love yourself and wife well and ASK.
