  • The RX 7900 XT could be the best entry level 4k GPU given the recent price reductions. When comparing the power scaling data of this GPU to the 4080 and 4070 Ti, this GPU should perform closer to a 4080. However, it is mostly compared to the 4070 Ti. Is it possible to OC a RX 7900 XT up to a 4080?

If the 7900 XT was correctly named and priced, (7800 XT 670$)
It would've been a top seller.

@@asdf_asdf948 They should have killed the XTX naming. 7900 XT at 999 and 7800 XT at 799 - that makes more sense, the pricing is reasonable for the current market conditions, would have had more positive reception - leadership needs some guidance, they shoot themselves in the foot. Then release the 7800 XT as the 7700 XT, kill the rest of the 7000 series and use the RDNA2 stock for the rest and initially launch with FSR3 with better performance on RDNA 3 as a way to have a value add on RDNA3 vs 2

$670 for a 20GB VRAM card as fast as an RTX 3090 and faster than an $800 4070ti? LOL this guy want's everything for free. The MSRP of the 6800XT was $650 3 full years ago. Now today that would be $750 if only there was a card for $750 out there that was 35% - 45% faster than the 6800XT? Oh ya! The 7900XT. Only the name was wrong. Well the price for the first 6 weeks too but that has corrected.

@@Jsanon00 Super series is out? Current price is $780 with a game included for 7900XT so I guess $750 is kinda the benchmark price for this card now. Still a better purchase IMO than a 4070ti. If they come out with 16GB version of 4070ti, AMD will need to drop the price to compensate. When you are second in the market and need more share you have to be cheaper.

Yet another excellent video providing a different yet eye opening perspective compared to everyone else!
This would have sold like hot cakes at 649 if it was named 7800XT and even the XTX would have sold like hot cakes at 899 with a 7900XT name.
Unfortunately, as you discussed in previous videos, there seems to be some sort of agreement between the companies.

$649 for a 20GB card I think is asking too much. $699.00 would have definately been a clean sweep for AMD. They would have been the most sought after card in the market hands down.

I don't know what his settings were, but I'm running a Sapphire Pulse RX 7900 XT GPU at Clock Min 2800, Max 3500, Voltage 1100, VRAM set to Fast Memory with 2750 mHz Clock, Fans at 75%, Power at Max + 15%. It has been very stable with no reset from AMD's Adrenaline Software. Give that a try, run the stress test in Adrenaline and a few games to see if that helps and your system is stable. GPU will automatically revert to stock settings if you have a crash. Undervolt saves a little power and heat and you should see very solid performance increase

I was a Nvidia user, i switched because of the 12pwr the nvidia pricing for this generation.

Spoiler alert, an overclocked 7900 xt does beat a 4080.
My sapphire nitro 7900 xt with 400+w power limit at 3250mhz max clock, 2800mhz memory, and 990mv voltage gets between 16-25% more perf than a stock reference 7900 xt depending of the game.
Clock speed are between 3,0ghz worst case on the more demanding games at native 1440p, and can scale up to 3,2ghz ingame depending on the games. Newer games using UE5 or amd optimised games (the last of us, starfield etc) tend to boost closer to 3,1-3,2ghz ingame.
The 7900xt is an underrated beast with ample vram, bandwidth for days (900gbs in my case) and a tonne of computing power (68 TFLOPS with my settings).
And the best part is that RT performance scales even better the futher you push core and memory clock speed with an average of 20+% gains in RT games.

I purchased one at full price but to be fair, at the time, because demand was high for the xtx model, it was note 100 but above 300 more than the xt model. This made the xt model far more appealing.

      @ImaMac-PC  8 місяців тому

Everyone assumes the demand was high, but we know nothing of supply. I didn't watch stock levels back then as the performance letdown overshadowed my desire to buy. I do know it took until March until the XTX was in the AMD store consistently and available. An interesting survey would be to understand how many people, like yourself, purchased the XT simply because the XTX was not available. In any case, the 7900xt is still the best entry level 4k gpu this generation.

My top Time Spy Extreme graphics score on the 7900xt was just over 15000. 970 mvs, 2810 MHz VRAM. This was last December. Out of the Box spent no time tunning it to show it's capabilities despite it's new architecture. Shameful frankly. Ancient Game Plays produces more honest comparisons. With both the XTX and XT properly tuned the XTX is 14% faster. When the testing on older CPUs at 4K the 4080 takes a big performance hit compared to the XT. I don't know why AMD has the voltage set so high on it. It harms performance. Thanks for pointing this out. I lost all respect for Steve after that and his bs mea culpa still dogging the card for his initial failure. But AMDs marketing is atrocious.

I agree: pricing makes or cans and offer.
700$ is still steep, but the performances of a 7900xt justify the current value. You are still outside of "mainstream" offers, but not by an unreasonable amount, and a 4070TI is certainly a worse offer.
900$ was too far IMO, straight in the Unreasonable territory, unless money are not an issue, but then, a 1000$ XTX, or even a 4090 are much faster.

Informative video on theoretical performance. Looking forward to the real world testing on the RX 7900 XT tuned for max performance.
For baseline 4K 45FPS, a $500 card would be awesome. For a good 4K 60FPS+, a $700 card (like the GTX 1080 Ti-level of the Pascal/Polaris/Vega era) would be more appealing for long-term use. I don't game at 4K if I do, I would use my PlayStation V. I don't want to buy a $1000+ RX 7900 XTX or RTX 4090 to reliably feed a 4K monitor. I will stick to 1080p for the foreseeable future on PC.

A very good analyis. A massive missed opportunity from AMD indeed - misnaming this card and overpricing it at launch.
The Ada Lovelace cards dont scale well with power - the voltage limits on Ada are very aggressive. The 4090 has had this cut down to 1070mV from 1100mV and modders are flashing older vbioses without these limits. I also think the power setting might function differently on Ada compared to previous nvidia cards.
My only issue with this 7900xt card is it's RT performance - you are paying $750 for RTX 3080 RT in 2023 which is a bit steep to put it mildly , with worse upscalers (FSR) in the mix. If only nVidia cross licenced the DLSS tech to run in Radeon and Arc cards....😂
I'm interested to see how you get on with uv/oc as the Radeon drivers do not allow you to modify the v/f curve. This is a massive oversight tbh in their package compared to the nVidia Afterburner i use for my 2080ti. (I can get that card to beat a RX 6800 in timespy😂 with v/f tuning on air).
