thats a pretty good inference actually, i never thought about it like that. it being the beginning of the story it very well could be referring to eating the apple in the garden of eden (knowing the recent albums title and concept)

Sleep Token definitely has religious undertones, though I think it's all very metaphorical. They refer to their concerts as "Rituals" and it's a common term for fans to refer to enjoying their music as "Worship". Based on the only interview they've ever given, Vessel (the lead singer) received a message in his dreams from a deity known as "Sleep", and essentially all their songs are this deities message. I have my theories about what this actually means, but many fans equate Vessel's relationship with Sleep akin to a toxic relationship with a loved one, being both unhealthy while also being something he can't and refuses to walk away from. So a lot of their songs are about relationships, love, etc. My read on things is how he tends to 'deify' lovers, or a very particular lover from his past, and how those relationships have crushed him. But that's just MY interpretation. Either way, glad to see you've started your journey down the rabbit hole, there's a lot to enjoy.
    Worship.

So I actually have a question about this, and if you don’t an answer, totally fine, I just need to get my thoughts out to another fan. So I’m a Christian and I absolutely love Sleep Token, however as I dive deeper into the lore of this band, I’m getting slightly … suspicious? While I do agree that “Sleep” is more of a metaphor than a deity, the way that the band treats Sleep puts me off. They continually say “praise Him” and “worship” and say that the songs they make are an offering to him and etc etc.
Now my brother went to one of their concerts and he said that it felt like church, which really off put me 😂 Sleep Token has clearly stated that “Sleep” is a deity who is to be praised, whether it’s a metaphor or not. I guess I’m just curious if they’re actually worshipping something or if it’s all a big show for the lord. Not sure. Maybe I sound crazy, whatever. Hate me if you want, but I am just making sure that when I’m singing Sleep Token songs, I’m not praising some British god or smth 😂

@@twitchstoleyourbagel Hey bud, thanks for question. For a little background, I am a former Christian, from birth to around 25ish, so I'm very familiar with the scriptures, but currently I consider myself an atheist.
Now, aside from their musical talent, one of the big appeals of Sleep Token is their mystery. Do I believe that the band or their fans believe in an actual deity called Sleep? No. Do they and their fans use this idea of a deity as a sort of mascot? Yes. Do they use an imaginary deity as an inspiration for the stories they tell through their music? Sure.
Why do I think this? Well aside from Vessel, no one can claim that they've had messages received from a deity in their dreams. And when you listen to their songs, they're all really about relationships, as unhealthy as they are intoxicating. Sleep Token uses the aesthetic of religion and Spirituality, (and even old mysticism like alchemy) to write songs about a complicated relationship with the gravity of divinity.
So all that being said, if the artistic use of religious themes makes you uncomfortable, I totally understand. They are "painting" with things you take very seriously and literally. But do they ACTUALLY believe in an ancient deity that has no historical evidence of, has no scripture to reference, and only the lead singer of a band has recieve direct communication with? No. No they don't. Sleep is the sun in a thematic and narrative universe that Sleep Token writes their music around.
Hope this helps! And stay curious!

Totally agree , I come from a catholic background but am not super religious and the whole deity think for sure if literal puts me off but I 100% to take it more of metaphors and hear more relationships, love, heart ache , toxicity and loss. I just think some fans probably do take it more literal. Anyways great responses!

@@twitchstoleyourbagel No you're not praising some other god, it's just an act for the stage and for their anonymity. And for whole lore that they created.

This was my introductory track. Random selection on a Spotify playlist. I love the new album but miss how much II used to be so prominent on their tracks.

This is one of the few songs from Sleep Token that I really wish they would go back and remaster so they can bring out the drums a little more. The ending is so nasty, but it kinda gets drowned out so much that I never fully appreciated it until I heard a live version. There's a dude named Deathdrumz on YT who does an awesome cover that's faithful to the original and it sounds so good

I understand where you’re coming from with a lot of the religious stuff but they’ve come out and stated that they are not a religious band, if you Google Sleep Token, it says they are collective group of musicians united in worship of an ancient deity named Sleep, the songs are offerings to sleep, but the subject matter is about vessel and his relationship with Sleep and the perspectives alternate from vessels and the deity

I get the feeling that vessel writes using a looper which would influence the repeating themes (Ed Sheeran like)
