I think the biggest issue is the writing. Like the animation could be excuse considering this was made on a netflix budget, but everything is all over the place and inconsitent story wise!
The animation wasn’t even all that bad towards the end. It was purely a writing issue.
Not to mention the villain herself...is a joke.
G5 is feels like High Guardian Spice, the only difference being that HGS did not have legancy to tarnish. I honestly had more fun watching random G1 episodes, in between chapters, than actually watching the chapters itself.

Transformers G1 followed by Transformers "recycled" G2.
Sunbow's GiJoe followed by DIC's "discount" GiJoe. (one episode had Cobra Commander as a kindergarten teacher)
My Littly Pony 'n Friends followed by My Little Pony Tales (devoid of magic, Earth Ponies Only and daily life bland as fuck)
Beast Wars followed by "what is a source material?" Beast Machines.
Transformers Prime followed by the forgettable Transformers Robots In Disguise.
So naturally my expectation to G5 was set to bottom of the barrel, only for the show to exceed my expectations by going BELOW the bottom of the barrel.

I partly agree, but unlike G5, Warriors, in my honest opinion, has a lot more going for it in terms of fan engagement potential, like FiM. MYM AND Warriors’ worldbuilding is shaky, but there’s a much stronger foundation. It reminds me more of Ninjago than G5; G5 (at least MYM) is pretty much a commercial failure because it improved too late in the game, but Ninjago and Warriors’ quality jumps up and down like the stock market. And we fervently follow it though we know there’s a 70% it’s going to retcon something into oblivion (WTH WAS REDTAIL’S DEBT?).

Yess!! For me personally, Warriors kept the same problem going for each generation, so I ended up stop reading the books after the newest series came out. Kinda looks like Hasbro is doing the same with this new show😅

Defenders blame others criticisms for being g4 purists or whatever nonsense, the thing is, a good majority actually liked g5 when it started with the movie and where excited for its potential.
But that potential is forever lost after the movie.
Which is why so many just lost their hope for it.

While there might be some who are "G4 purists," IMO that there are people who think it is therefore OK to assume that it is only G4 purists that criticize MYM, G5, is beyond baffling, and beyond frustrating (as such a mindset is, IMO, beyond stupid).
I love the show but I'm 100% aware of the parts that suck lol. I don't get mad though because it's a kids show, specifically made for kids. It can make adults mad but it's dumb to be mad about a fictional show for 5-8 year old children. G4 is my favorite but it also had countless flaws that the g4 "purists" refuse to mention. Because it was a kids show and all kids shows have flaws lol it's really not as big of a deal as anyone makes it out to be. But it is fun to watch UA-camrs and the comments go crazy about this stuff 😂🤣
Honestly I still wouldn't have had a problem with G5 even after Chapter 6 if it wasn't for the fact that it canonically is in the same universe as G4. Unless they pull a "this is a Starlight Glimmer alternate timeline" at some point then it's really just taking everything we loved about G4 and tearing it down with Twilight carrying an idiot ball the size of the moon. It's sad to see what's become of a franchise that really hit such a high bar with G4.

Fr the only WELL WRITTEN CHARACTER in these series is Zipp... They really had many good ideas and potential plot twists but as we can see what it had turned out, I'm really dissapointed

Imagine a kid trying to build a block tower, but he doesn’t know what to do because he doesn’t have enough blocks so he takes the blocks from another kids tower to make his bigger, and as he takes more blocks away, the other kid’s tower is slowly collapsing, only making it pointless for him to build in the first place.

So you see, everyone, this… this is why many people are critical in their analysis and critique of media. Most people want shows/books/movies to be good because we can appreciate the effort it takes to make something function, it’s not easy feat. This show, as well as many…. MANY OTHERS are being dunked on by regulars and fans alike for a lot of nonsense that are expected to “aCcEpT tHiS! DoN’t AsK qUeStIoNs! It’S gOoD!” We all want good things and simply accepting what they give us, especially when it’s so poorly written just shows how fair critiquing any work is.
Keep up the great work!
This series was super sad to me. I was really hoping that a beloved franchise such as this would receive more love then it got, but they didn't seem to care that much
To be fair, in 2021 everyone was super hyped for g5 simply because it was better by comparison to the most recent official pony content (at the time), pony life 🤮

IMO Hasbro would be better off shedding those people who'd want to kill off said fandom, if they exist in the ranks, at least from MLP related anythings, since it was at least partly a fandom thriving and growing that helped G4 last so long/be so successful. Continuing to appeal to a wide audience with well produced, well written shows (and taking the stuff (from a design/production/planning standpoint at least) that helped G4 succeed so well and use it in making a new gen) would allow the momentum to keep going IMO.
Which works in Hasbro's interest - not just the fandom's - because it'd mean more $$$$ for them.

I think they actually make the most of their money from the kids that watch the show, becuase why else would they make g5 so stupid? they must want to get rid of the adult fans and just make something low budget with no effort,- like Tell Your Tale, that kids will click on and watch repeatedly over and over. It seems to me that the writers deliberately tried to make everything as bad as possible, to anger the fans. There is no other way for me to explain why everything is so terrible.

I’m honestly convinced they were forced to write like this for some reason by Hasbro. G5 was originally marketed to be DARKER than g4 (not pg-13, guys. Believe it or not, epic battles between heroes and villains and ‘cults’ aren’t’ dark for TV cartoons. A child’s play often looks a lot more like those scenes than all the tea parties. Also, HAVE YOU SEEN NINJAGO?) Even in the movie, the set-up was there. I personally wanted to see a more in-depth fallout of the princesses, specifically Pipp. Phone addiction? Check. Large audience? Check. Large audience HATING her? Check. There could be some interesting commentary on parasocial relationships.
It could also be development hell that didn’t come out as well as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, to be honest. Retconning down the line is usually what happens, but MYM retcons itself in the same season. (Chapters aren’t seasons. They’re parts of a season.)
TLDR; Development hell, Ninjago good, g5 not-quite bad but toeing the line.

I thought they may have intentionally dumbed it down to "look, brightly colored ponies and sparkly magic!" To shake us Bronies off and just appeal to 4yr-olds and their parents' paychecks.
But they keep throwing in elements of g4 to draw us back in.
So I've come to the conclusion that they want our money but not our viewership or participation in the show and this Fandom.
I mean, I'll admit, I've got a few g5 toys. I might be getting rid of some though. 🤔 some kid in Goodwill might love them like I once did. 😔
Unfortunately that backfired on them due to the fact that their toy sales are extremely low and they had to lay off 1,100 employees. Barely any G5 merchandise in sight around here!

-Do NOT pull out the IDIOT BALL: this only makes sense if its someting like "character X is drunk, he's the type that turns stupid" or played completely for laughs, even then don't overuse this trope too much.

It’s sad how G5 fell, let alone how fast it did.
I hate how so many fans of G5 are trying to shut fans of G4 up by saying we’re just too biased towards it. No. This was G5’s fault. We weren’t the ones to decide making this a continuation of G4. So, we should expect about the same quality as G4. That alone isn’t a terrible decision, it just depends on the execution, which to most, including myself was terribly done.
This was undoubtedly my biggest disappointment ever as G4 is my favorite show of all time. I used to blindly hate it at first, but grew to love it when I gave it a chance. I was nervous about G5, until the movie came out and I was so excited to see the future of this generation, only to be let down over and over again. At this point, G5 isn’t canon in my mind. I know TYT is continuing, but I’ve already given this series enough chances. G5 will be forgotten while G4 will live on forever ❤

This was a mistake making G5 a sequel to the beloved G4 we grew to love. Even fanfiction writers write better sequels than this 😭
Although there is sooooo many flaws with opaline, if we pretend that she was better made villan and they actually kept her as a serious issue then i actually quite like the misty arc. Its just a shame they made opaline go from Powerful Threat to stupid joke.
At least sparky's "do anything sneeze" is somewhat justified later on with different dragonfire magic and his being to change and transform things or whatever nonsense it was the writers came up with.
We can pretend this G5 takes place in an alternative universe with a slightly altered G4 to try fix some of holes and to protect our g4 from being destroyed by any issues of g5.
I can sum G5 up in a few words. Baby time adventures. Hasbro just wants a show for little kids.

Yeah it sucks that G4 was the outlier and Hasbro is seemingly going back to its roots. Oh well at least the children will get a show more targeted at what they are interested in.

It was also easier to follow due to only having to watch one specific show instead of 2 different ones. The lack of interest shows due to how bad the toys are doing. They’re going to clearance or aren’t even there at all.

A part of me still hopes that G5 will end with another high budget Netflix movie, as broken as the world building is, I think this is the best way to send off this generation.

In all honesty, G5 needs a total reboot. Wouldn't mind if the movie got a reboot as well to work some issues out. I got so many different points that I want to change to improve this mess. Most of all, disconnecting it from G4 as that is just utterly obliterating G4.

We're almost through G5's first Phase/Season, took us long enough. I have high hopes, but every new episode and chapter became pretty hit or miss whether it was the fact I expected to have them delve into world building or character developments when they could've or the fact there was inconsistency. I want to learn about these dragons as characters, or if Opaline will somehow find a way to return, heck let Allura, the Pippsqueak trio, or even Sprout get their own episode, anything!

It's starting to come clear that the show is now meant for marketing.....seeing how there's so many split ends between the game the tell your tale to make your mark to the film version of g5 to the still attached to the g4 show- Like- why? You can have your merchandise go through the roof if you ACTUALLY cared about the plot. But they seriously just don't, the don't respect twilight whatsoever either or spike....this is not only shameful to the fandom but to the developers of g4 who NAILED in my opinion mostly EVERY! SINGLE! FREAKING EPISODE! there's always a good wrap in the episodes and the characters are actually good. These characters? Are idiots. I hate Sunny.

Honestly I am in the process of starting a g6 but it will probably take a couple of years, after I finish my remake of MLP book that goes over the entirety of the series with the focus on Twilight, also I am no animator so.
For the love of god I hope after a suffering decade G6 could at least half-decent.
This is why I’m glad I never watched this (I don’t have Netflix). The movie was awesome and they could’ve done so much more with moving the plot forward, maybe focus on the struggles with magic being back which they probably don’t touch on much.
...Honestly, at this rate I'm kinda wondering if Hasbro is trying to press a big undo button on MLP having so many adult fans from G4... by making the G5 writing insufferable if you're not six.
IMO, if that were the case, I'd say that this person would be doing something financially stupid for Hasbro (my mind instantly is going to the current CEO talking about continually increasing revenue year after year - didn't he come from their Wizards of the Coast subsidiary?) - given just how profitable the franchise was when FiM was out - and everyone could gather around a show that was appealing to a wide audience, and well made.
Im usually iffy when I see things that I knew for a long time change but I would eventually get over it. but when I first saw the teaser for g5 it felt more like as gut feeling that something was bound to go wrong and I hoped that it was just paranoia. of course only to see g5 go through a downward spiral of copouts and wasted potential

Just found your video after I saw a clip of Spike returning and saying "You lost magic on your own? I'm going back to sleep..." and I was thinking... what? I didn't watch the movie and saw reviews and learning about the plot and world-building I had a feeling in my gut that G5 wasn't going to be good as it undermines G4's lore and story and it looks like I was right given when I've seen from here.
Seeing it wasn't THAT long between G4 and G5 with that elderly pony being from when Equestria was Equestria and the changing of how cutie marks worked. Yeah, it did more harm than good to the overall story.
G5 should've been it's own continuity at least and own world-building. I believe all the other Generations were separate from each other.
I enjoyed MLP: FiM and still love it and though I didn't care or believe G5 would be better than G4 or at least good enough on its own, I feel bad for the people who were looking forward to it and hoping it was good.
I too had my expectations surpassed by A New Generation. But over the Make your Mark series I've had my hopes sink as the continuity errors piled up and the big questions either went unanswered or had stupid answers. The complete redesign of the dragons in chapter 6 was the last straw for me.
I think the show has been such a disaster the best, if not only way, to fix it is to declare everything after A New Generation non-cannon and start again with a new show set right after the movie.
Recently I got into a conversation with another MLP fan and they vehemently defended EVERYTHING in MYM! Saying that everything did make sense if you watched the show and that it was easy to fill in the gaps and infer what happened! Even that, since there were a few continuity errors in G4, that makes it OK to make as many as they want in G5.
IMO that sounds like blind fanboyism on their end.

Did they forget the majority of G4 was episodic, so continuty errors between episodes didn't matter? In G5 a lot more of it is story based, so continuity issues matter a lot more.
Almost everyone who likes the new generation says the same thing. Either “yes, we understand that we are watching garbage, but we’re ok” or “no, you’re all wrong, everything is logical and good, but you just have duckling syndrome”

I still hate so much that Gen 5 has good ideas sure a little iffy and there with them ideas but COULD BE SO GOOD!
But the writing sucks so badly that even with the good ideas it burns them It's just so disappointing....

While the MYM show did have massive plot holes and dumb characters and little substance, I did have the best time watching StarStrike go insane. Seriously, I was laughing SO hard as he pointed out all the ways this show makes no sense.
you got out at the right time, just watched episode 2 of season 2 of tell your tale, it had what you hate in abundance, stupitidy and solving all problems with magic.

The windies are already a stupid concept, because no one should need a gun to their head to be a good person, but these crystals sound like that times a thousand. It also perpetuates the asinine idea that anyone who raises their voice is automatically wrong, something we saw G4 do occasionally. This is not a fun world; if you bring up that someone is abusing you, you cause armageddon. Absurd. It's very disappointing to see G5 making the same mistakes at greater magnitude

The crystals were never made to be a gun to your head to force you to get along if you actually paid attention to Spike's story. The crystals were made purely to keep magic away from Opaline. Ponies could still use magic, but it couldn't be taken directly from them without going through the crystals first. The crystals simply lost the capacity to keep working when the tribes split up way later.

I know I might be late to make my theory but I have always wondered about the magic and Twilight Sparkle. For one the reason why the ponies only have half of their magic and one cutie mark is because of the magic leaking into the human world. And two I thought Twilight in the hologram was the tree of magic since this wouldn’t be the first time the tree has done something like this.
Also, I don't know if this cannon or not but I’m pretty sure there are three types of alicorns in Equestrian, The first is the alicorn that borrows magic (Sunny Starscout, Sunset Shimmer, etc.) Then there is the alicorn that earned their wings (Twilight, Celestia, Luna, maybe Cadence), and the last one is the alicorn who was born with a horn and wings (Flurry Heart) means that the who was born an alicorn is truly royalty.

Wow they really didn’t think any of that through did they? Even g4 had a plan at least. Every time I go and watch any other movie ever I notice that the writers and creative team takes time to make it at the very least enjoyable but no g5 does not do that. And I only continued watching the show because there were actually a few things that I think made it a little good, and there is one thing above all else when your making a sequel DON’T just throw away all logic and reasoning from the show or movie you are making the sequel for.

Ok that was a joke here is what I really want to say: bro I'm so disappointed in g5 if I could change 1 thing about the show (other than that ugly stupid fake dragon that doesn't even make sense) I'd choose it to be a separate universe from g4, instead of Twilight doing all of the things, it would be a mysterious alicorn, it would solve most of the problems. I also don't like how its way less dark than g4, even if it's supposed to be "for kids" they were supposed to put the classic nightmare fuels, and also how they got their cutie marks, sunny got it for freaking selling lemonade and Twilight got it from HATCHING A DRAGON EGG. not to even mention that the cutie mark crusaders had to wait FIVE SEASONS to get their cutie marks, g5 cutie marks just work like: "oh I'm being honest *gets cutie mark*" I do NOT view it as canon and never will (unless they do a whole rebrand to g5)

Every single G4 Reference not longer appear in the Show exept Sunnys Bag, some Papers and the Twilight Cutiemark Window once at the End.
No Mane 6 Figures, no Spike Plush, no Celestia Flag, no Rainbow Dash Poster, no Starsquirl Painting, Twilight Feather or any other Stuff.
Maybe Sunny has store them in boxes like the one with the Cutiemark Post It, maybe most was destroyed.
Most of that Stuff would usualy be in a Museum, not in some Ponys Priveta Home, but maybe the G5 Ponys have no interest in the Past.
Cadance, Twilight and Flurry should still be arround after just around 300 Years, like Spike and Discord.
The Factory was maybe never owned by Sprouts Mom but maybe was rented and later abandoned because no Pony longer wanted their Products.
By the way, they have made celestia wrong, Clestia had pink hair as she was young and similar to Lunas and Twilights it has change over Time.

I loved MLP G4 to death, I even enjoyed it as a young teen, and I'll always love it. But seeing what G5 is...I will never be interested in it. It looks unfathomably boring
